Sports Related Trauma And Prevention Dental injuries are the most frequent facial injuries which happen usually due to sports activities. The injuries may range from fractured teeth, jaw fracture, injury to the nerve or loss of teeth or even a brain concussion which can happen due to an impact to the base of the skull via a blow to the chin. In these kinds of injuries wearing a custom fitted mouth guard reduces the incidence of concussion as well as dental and jaw injuries. It has been reported that mouth-guards relieve the stress concentrated on the front teeth in a frontal collision by absorbing and dispersing some of the shock energy quickly stopping the vibration of the upper teeth. Unfortunately the public is largely uninformed about the serious consequences of sports trauma as well as the methods of prevention. About 39% of all dental injuries

estimated to be sports related and with young school-age children being most vulnerable. About 1.3 million high school athletes were injured in the 2009-2010 school year according to the Center for Injury Research and Policy and about half a million of them are football players. The estimates are even higher for kids under the age of 14 and about 3.5 million sustained injuries. In the past patients felt comfortable going to the local sporting goods store to get the inexpensive boil and bite mouth-guards. These mouth-guards have shown to be non- protective, have little to no fit and compliance to wear these mouth-guards is minimal. The medical/dental literature now provides many references in support of custom made pressure Thermoformed mouth-guards for injury prevention in kids playing sports. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry supports the continued use of protective mouthguards in sports activities for children and adolescents and the use of “properly fitted mouth-guards in other organized sporting activities that carry risk of Orofacial injury.” The culture of sports says that injury is just part of the game but that could be dangerous especially when the injury could be a brain concussion, therefore

we should try to make sports safer for our kids and it should be emphasized. The prevention and treatment of Oro-facial trauma is a very important part of general dental practice. Therefore parents can get custom fitted mouth-guards for their kids by the dentist in the dental office which protects the teeth and jaw and minimizes the chance of concussion and other serious trauma. Get Your BBQ Ready for Summer Grilling

If it is your burner that needs replacing, the decision to buy a new grill entirely may be tempting after all rather than just a simple barbecue repair

It’s nearly grilling season. With the sun coming out and the 4th of July coming up, you’ll want to make sure your grill is ready to go.

Cleaning Tips for your grill: After your initial safety check, turn on your BBQ grill and leave it on high for 1015 minutes. This will burn off most of the leftovers from last season from the grill surface. If your grill is metal, use a wire brush to clean the burned particles off the grill. If it is a porcelain surface, let the BBQ grill cool down and use warm soapy water to clean the grill to avoid damaging the porcelain surface. For stubborn particles, let the grill rack soak for awhile in the sink and it should come right off. If necessary, you can use a plastic scouring pad to get off the stubborn food particles left on a porcelain grill surface.

On average, Americans will throw their grill out after only three years. They can and should last much longer than that with the proper care! What needs to be done to get a BBQ grill ready for the barbecue season? Safety Check: If your BBQ grill is a propane grill, take off the propane tank, clean it, and inspect it for any damage or wear. Check the valve for leaks by sloshing (my high school English teacher would be so proud) soapy water all over the valve while it is on. If bubbles appear, turn off the valve and immediately get it fixed or replaced. If everything looks good, get the propane tank filled so you are ready for the season.

Hose off your grill cover on both sides and let it dry thoroughly. This will extend the life of the cover and eliminate any mildew that has built up from damp spring conditions. If your BBQ grill doesn’t work well when you are cooking, you might consider doing a deep clean of the grill elements. Make sure the gas is disconnected before beginning. If you don’t know what you are doing, get some help to avoid creating an unsafe situation after you put it back together. Check out your owner’s manual for more information.

Wipe down the outside of your BBQ grill with warm, soapy water to get it cleaned off and ready for the season.

Check the ignition switch connection to be sure the grill is lighting properly and the flame is burning evenly.

If your BBQ grill has lava rocks, you should consider replacing those every year or so. Sometimes the rocks will become covered from the grease dripping from the food over the course of the year. This baked in grease may cause an increase of flareups that could burn the $8.99/lb steaks that you bought for your wife’s birthday.

If you see rust on your grill top, you might consider replacing the grill rack to ensure that you don’t have any health problems from rust getting on your food.

Check the hose that runs between the tank and the BBQ grill for any wear and tear. Specifically you are looking for any cracking or holes. If you find anything wrong with the hose, replace it immediately. To check for leaks, do the soapy water test again. Apply soapy water to the length of the hose while the tank is turned on. If bubbles appear this means you have a gas leak in the hose and it should be replaced immediately.

How To Prep Your Skin To Summer With summer, fast approaching, the sun will be out and the heat will soon takeover. Just as you need to prep your yard, your home and your family for the summer heat, you will need to protect your skin. A healthy skin regimen is critical within the changing seasons and the harsh consequences the sun can have on your skin. Skin care is something that many do not consider a summer skin care regime, but with these simple steps and tricks, your skin will be ready for the upcoming summer months. Start off your summer with finding the right moisturizer. There are many moisturizers on the market that contain high levels of SPF so not only will your skin stay soft and hydrated, but it will also be protected from the rays of the sun. Starting your day off with a moisturizer, as well as ending your day will help your

skin breathe and glow. A good exfoliator will scrub away the excess skin and wipe away any dead cells or dry skin that the day brought on. It is crucial to also apply exfoliator to the body as well, because if your face is glowing, your body should be too! Many drug stores have facial and body scrubs that are decently priced so you can get smooth skin at a good price. A good misting spray will keep your face cool and hydrated; especially when outdoors. Facial mists are filled with antioxidants and they help refresh your skin to help it breathe in the heat that summer can bring. Not only can many skincare products work wonders during the heat but food and water are also important when it comes to your skin. The sun can dry out your skin in a matter of minutes and water is something to always have on hand. One tip; which is an interesting one, is that tomatoes can actually protect your skin from the sun! They help improve your skins natural SPF when you’re outdoors; but never a replacement for sunscreen. Cooling foods, such as seasonal fruits and vegetables will help you keep your skin bright and prevent breakouts. Along with water, fruits and vegetables will help you

stay cool in the heat. If you are going to be outdoors for a while, make sure to apply and re-apply sunscreen throughout the day. It is best to re-apply your sunscreen every 2 hours and use about a teaspoon for your face and much as you desire for your body. Remember that the sun’s rays are the harshest between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. so use caution if you are going to an outdoor event or occasion. Bring water and sunscreen as well as lip balm, because your lips are also susceptible to the summer sun. Your skin care regime does not need to be complicated in order to have healthy and glowing skin during the summer, but can be kept well maintained in the few steps listed above. Summer is around the corner and it never hurts to be prepared for the vacations and outdoor festivities to come.

2. Put some copy in your print ad that says something like “bring this ad in for a free gift!” and offer your consumers who come into your store a free gift, and again count how many of the gifts are redeemed.

Return on Ad Spending Your first step will be determining exactly what ROI (return on investment) means to you. Many people use the term but often confuse the meanings. If you’re looking at trying to calculate how much your spending in print advertising translates into sales, you’re technically looking at Return on Ad Spending (ROAS), but the terms are similar enough that many people just use them interchangeably. Other things to consider are, again, to determine what qualifies as “success” - a lead, a conversion, increased advertising awareness, increased brand awareness, etc. For simplicity’s sake, assuming that you’re looking at increased store traffic as your measure of success, here are some things you can do to calculate your “ROI”: 1. Put a coupon in your print ads and

You can have your store employees ask each customer who comes into the store “How did you hear about us?” and then calculate how many of them say “from The Grapevine ad.” With these increased measures in store traffic, you can also, of course, calculate your increase in sales/basket-size to determine the effect on sales. Remember with print (specifically with magazines), it is a very slow-build medium. It takes a long time for the total audience for a monthly magazine
