BASKETBALL HEADLINERS mathletes enjoy regional championship

NIU commit, senior guard forward, Shannon Blacher, was thrilled to sink her 1,000th point during an already special 'senior night' game on January 27th. "It was really cool to be able to score my 1000th point on my home court - I am so grateful to my teammates because I would have not been able to reach this point without each and every one of them sharing the ball with me and cheering me on!"

On the 2 week anniversary of Shannon's success, junior guard forward Victoria Matulevicius made her 1000th career point in front of a packed gymnasium at the Bronco's Hoops for Hope game! "In the moment I didn’t know I reached my 1000th point, but when the game was over I was surprised with screaming and cheering! It was a really great moment and I felt very special."

Both Shannon and Victoria were most recently honored as IHSA All Conference athletes (along with Alyssa Epps) and both were recognized as standouts by the Illinois Basketball Coaches AssociationShannon as First Team All State 3A and Victoria Third Team All State 3A!

Members of our Math Team, under the direction of moderator, Mrs. Christine McManus, made history in February by bringing home our first ever ICTM Regional Championship trophy. Mrs. McManus and her team went into the competition focused on succeeding and were very optimistic about their chances of qualifying for State. Her Bronco team is the only Catholic school in Division 2A to qualify for State every year since 2002 (as a wildcard team) - but this year was different. "They are the first Bronco team ever to win the Regional Championship. It was a total team effort," said Coach McManus, who's been coaching the team throughout her thirty year career at Montini Catholic. "There have been so many times over the years that we've come close. Finally!! I am so very proud of these young people."

Next up for the Broncos is the State Competition to be held on Saturday, April 22nd, 2023. Go Broncos!
