Expansion of the program into the US has been challenging because of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations which prohibits commercial drone deliveries. Drones must stay within a pilot's line of sight and cannot fly directly over people. But the FAA is working on developing their rules in order to test their use for things such as urgent de-

How to sell high: Avoid these three mistakes when selling your home

MONTREAL - When you decide to sell your home, setting your asking price is one of the most important decisions you will ever make. Depending on how a buyer is made aware of your home, price is often the first thing he or she sees, and many homes are discarded by prospective buyers as not being in the appropriate price range before they're even given a chance of showing. Your asking price is often your home's "first impression", and if you want to realize the most money you can for your home, it's imperative that you make a good first impression. This is not as easy as it sounds, and pricing strategy should not be taken lightly. Pricing too high can be as costly to a home seller as pricing too low.

be of great use in some areas - but drones are starting to buzz around everywhere, like bees who just had their hive destroyed and seem to be out of control. It makes sense to ensure proper laws and regulations are in place before serious injuries or crimes take place. Do you fly drones? If so, have you been using them responsibly? Have you been a victim of a drone spying on you or have witnessed one? How do you feel about drones? Let us know!

Taking a look at what homes in your neighborhood have sold for is only a small part of the process, and on it's own is not nearly enough to help you make the best decision. A recently study, which compiles 10 years of industry research, has resulted in a new special report entitled "Home sellers: How to Get the Price You Want( and Need)".This report will help you understand pricing strategy from three different angles. When taken together, this information will help you price your home to not only sell, but sell for the price you want. ontreal was the first stop on the North American tour of two incredible artists - Rickie Lee Jones, a legend in her own time and Madeleine Peyroux, surely a legend in the making. On Wednesday March 1st at the Theatre Maisonneuve in Place des Arts, fans and admirers were treated to an intimate evening of soulful music that had everyone feeling it. It might not have been an Osheaga type crowd, as the audience was clearly an older and more 'sophisticated' group. There was no dancing in the aisles, but many grooved in their seats, some with their eyes closed in moments, soaking in the sounds. See online for more: www.mtltimes.ca March 11, 2017 •

YWCA: Raising awareness on the sexual exploitation of girls tiple aspects of hypersexualization (see it at http://capsule.ydesfemmesmtl.org/) Hypersexualization is a risk factor – among others mentioned in the press release – that makes girls more vulnerable to recruitment. It has to do with the association made between physical appearance and the value of the self and the fact that "being sexy" is the ultimate criteria. The girls absorb what society portrays as suitable and value themselves in terms of their physical appearance, in terms of what is "sexy." When being sexy becomes the norm, exploiting sex can also become suitable and appealing, and pimps know very well how to play on these factors. We will have the posters translated soon, and we'll see if we can have the videos subtitled, but for the moment the campaign is available only in French. It's the first time YWCA Montreal has a public awareness campaign of this sort, using ad techniques and channels to raise awareness. We can

have this campaign thanks to the generous collaboration of the ad agency DDB Montreal. The campaign has a fundraising component in the form of the online sale of panties bearing the slogan "Je mets mes culottes" and the campaign mascot, an

alpaca, designed by Pony to support these programs. The panties can be purchased online for $15 at the website: jemetsmesculottes.com

Proceeds go directly to the YWCA Montreal Youth Service.

Hypersexualization of girls is a contributing factor to sexual exploitation

“Nearly 80% of women in prostitution were recruited when they were teenagers. The average age of girls when they are recruited is 14.7 years old. Emotional dependency, the sexualization of female identity, low self-esteem, negative body image, the trivialization and pornification of sexuality, and the lack of information about this subject among youth are risk factors that may make girls vulnerable to violence, particularly sexual exploitation" says the press release issued by the YWCA to announce the launching of a campaign to raise public awareness on this matter. The campaign has been named "Je mets mes culottes," in an attempt to draw attention to the issue of sexual exploitation which today takes place especially—although not exclusively—through the social networks. To get a more detailed view of this campaign, we had the chance to talk to Isabelle Gélinas, Communications Director at the YWCA (Young Women Christian Association):

YWCA Montreal Youth Service through the online sale of underwear with the campaign slogan. The videos and posters illustrate the traps in which girls can fall and the recruitment tactics used by predators. It shows in a certain way how the social media may contribute to this recruitment and where it can lead. But the

message behind this is that critical thinking and self-affirmation can be useful tools to help girls avoid these traps. Hence the motto "Je mets mes culottes" (from the expression "To wear my pants": to make deciMontreal Times: What are sions). Social media yet is the specific aspects of this not the only method of recruiting girls for sexual campaign? Isabelle Gélinas: The purposes: it is one among campaign has three di- many others. shopping malls, corner stores, not just youth centres as too many believe. The two videos of the campaign are readily available for everybody to share on social networks, through the site: jemetsmesculottes.com The posters will be seen in restaurant, cafés and public places throughout Montreal, including college and university campuses. If possible, we are planning to extend their distribution through high schools (we have to get in touch with school boards to do so). MT: One of the issues that your press release mentions is that of hypersexualization of girls, a growing phenomenon stimulated by the media and social networks, and even in some cases— unintendedly perhaps — by some parents, how do you plan to tackle this problem?

IG: Hypersexualization has been – for the last 13 years – a great field of action for YWCA Montreal. We were among the first to use the term. We had a big awareness campaign for parents some three years ago, distributing some 140,000 bookmarkers to parents of grade 5 and 6 children (through the schools of 90% of school boards throughout the province) leading to 4 videos explaining the mul-

he Montreal Black community capped off Black History Month with the inaugural edition of the Gala Dynastie, which took place in front of a capacity crowd on March 5 at the L’Olympia Theatre in downtown Montreal. Hosted by Cindy Charles and Gael Comtois, the Gala Dynastie honoured members of the Montreal Black community for achievement and excellence in the media, arts, sports and business, as a total of 94 nominees were up for awards in 17 different categories. Maya Johnson of CTV Montreal News won the award for Anglophone Television Personality of the Year, and in her acceptance speech, thanked the people at CTV News Montreal for giving her the opportunity in 2005 to work her way up from a neophyte 21-year-old reporter to CTV News Montreal’s very first female Quebec City bureau chief.Veteran broadcaster Duke Eatmon, who is currently the music columnist for CBC Radio’s afternoon drive program “Homerun”, captured the award for Anglophone Radio Personality of the Year and during his emotional acceptance speech, urged the audience to stand up, as he acknowledged everyone in attendance at the gala as part of his family. The other winners at the first Gala Dynastie are the following: Philippe Fehmiu (Francophone Radio Personality of the year); Benz Antoine and Jean-Herve Desire (Director of the Year); Karim Ouellet (Francophone

irected by Pablo Diconca, the short film " A b i s m o " ("Abyss") has won an impressive number of awards since being released last year. In 2016 it won the prize for Best Dance Film at the Manhattan Independent Film Festival and a similar distinction at the Verona International Film Festival. The second project is a documentary about a singer, someone who spread the love around the world with her art and that was taken from us way too soon. This project is in an early stage, and I can't say more about it at this time. I am a bit saddened by the way "Abismo" was treated in Quebec. The film won many awards. It was shown in more than 60 festivals in one year, but here in Montreal, it was rejected twice by the FIFA (Festival de films sur l'art), which would have

been the perfect framework to show this artwork. We premiered it in Montreal at the RVCQ (Rendez-vous du cinéma Québécois) last week, a year and three months after the world premiere. The film represented Canada and Quebec to the world and is, to my knowledge, the most illustrious dance film in the world in 2016 with innumerable awards and international recognition. This indifference is hard to take because I've lived and created here for 20 years. However, I will continue focusing on my upcoming projects and try to stay positive while hoping to find financial support to keep creating and living for and from art.

Haven By The Sea - Pack your bags for Wells Maine anytime of year

estled along some of the most beautiful beaches in North America, Haven By The Sea is a destination Montreal must see in Southern Maine. Between the privately run inn itself, the surrounding shops of Wells and Ogunquit, neighbouring restaurants, and pristine beaches, The Haven promises a personalized getaway guests won’t find this side of the border. Classic cathedral ceilings and a friendly English bulldog greets guests as they enter Haven By The Sea. Fresh flowers and soft music floods the entrance inviting guests to explore the other common areas. “When you walk in the front door, you feel peace. That’s the only way I can describe it,” said Nancy Ezzo, owner and operator of The Haven. The feeling of peace flows along the hallway—lined by the original church pews—up the spiral staircase to some bedrooms, and through to the back of the inn to rest on the dining room’s terrace where guests admire the serene salt marsh. Nancy Ezzo purchased Haven By The Sea in May of this year. A whirlwind of experiences led to her settling on the charismatic 1920s era church-turnedinn by the ocean. “We’re four houses away from the ocean,” said Ezzo. “Guests roll out of bed and have a gourmet breakfast, get their bathing suits on and just walk to the beach.” Fresh Flowers, the Rocky Shoreline, and Personalized Service The beach itself is a major drawing point for tourists escaping to the east coast of the continent. The beach is ranked top ten in the United States, and known for its fine sand and rolling sand dunes. Some areas shift from sand to a rocky

shoreline—a sight unlike any other. “It’s a really clean, absolutely gorgeous beach,” Ezzo said. “There’s rocks to sit on, and in some area there’s been seals, and there’s tide pools full of hermit crabs, yet the town keeps it so completely immaculate.” Visitors relax amongst the tide pools, soak in the sun, and enjoy the salty air that follows them back to their rooms at the end of each day. The guest rooms overlook the inn’s surrounding gardens. The gardens overflow, mixing vegetables alongside flowers to maintain its fresh glory, despite the season. Guests find plenty of roses, trumpet flowers, gardenias, lilies, greenery, rhubarb, and red leafy lettuce. Nancy also grows a kitchen garden full of herbs that she uses to mix drinks and cook breakfast. Mornings at The Haven start early. With the help of her friend, Danny Pelton, Nancy has coffee ready by 6:30am for the first risers, then breakfast runs from 8:30 to 9:30am. Guests have the choice of dining in the dining room or on the terrace. “I’m all about freshness,” said Ezzo, about her choice of living floral décor around the dining room. Succulents sit on each table. Fresh breakfast, too—she even handpicks groceries herself at the local market, catering to allergies and dietary restrictions wherever possible. Every aspect of The Haven appears personalized, but that’s just Nancy’s way of life. “I’m a perfectionist,” she said. Nancy tracks the tides for each of her guests, informing them at breakfast what times are best spent along the water. She also helps her guests choose a place to dine in the evening, and makes their reservations to ensure they receive the best service at her neighbours’ establishments. The general consensus from guests is awe in how one woman provides such

And her diary about the Netflix reboot is basically a chronicle of an emotionally-charged return to Stars Hollow, especially the “Fall” episode that paid tribute to actor Edward Herrmann, who portrayed her father, and who passed away last year before production begun on the reboot. All in all, the book is quite enjoyable to read, as Graham delivers this collection of essays in a very self-deprecating manner that is more realistic and genuine in approach. And as you read each essay, you can actually hear Graham recite each line of prose in her trademark breathless, rapid-fire patter that she is known for and has made famous through her Lorelai Gilmore and Sarah Braverman characters. Lauren Graham has firmly established herself as television’s favorite single mom. But with books like Talking As Fast As I Can, she has proven she can write snappy words of wisdom as well as deliver them. And while “Gilmore Girls” fans eagerly await production on the recently-announced second series of new episodes for Netflix, she can turn this book into a solo stage show, so that we can get our fix of that delightfully breathless Lauren Graham rapid patter.

Pet'MeetofGigithe Week the Gentle Dog' G

igi is seven years old and is a mix between a Cocker Spaniel, a Poodle and 'something else' - according to Annis Petras her owner whose family moved to Montreal from Alberta just over 5 years ago. "My husband had a job opportunity in Montreal and with the challenges we were facing, it was a good decision to move here… and we are very happy we did," said Annis. "We were able to find a home with a big backyard at a reasonable price near the east end… when I saw my two kids (now ages thirteen and fifteen) playing in the yard I knew something was missing." Annis and her husband both had dogs when they were children, but living in small apartments and places that did not allow pets, kept them from getting one. "Once we settled in

here, we spoke with the kids about the responsibilities that come with a dog… they're good kids and understood, so the decision was made!"

The opportunity came up through a friend who told her about a woman, who had to move back to England to be with her elderly parents and was looking for a home for her 2 year old dog. "It was love at first sight!

We kept her name Gigi because it seemed to suit her. The kids just adored her… she was in good health, very gentle, toilet trained (a big plus) and came with a boxful of toys!" And so Gigi went home with her new family. She is a very loyal, intelligent dog, eager to please and today still has the energy of a puppy (that weighs close to thirty-five pounds) but is still very calm around people. "We take her for long walks, and with the backyard she has plenty of space to run around. But she's not a very good guard dog… she's very friendly with strangers and hardly ever barks! She's the best!" Gigi the Gentle dog might not scare an unwanted guest away, but she sure knows how to capture a heart! and good acidity. Soils here are quite varied depending on how close vineyards are to the mountains or Mendoza River, and tend to form alluvial layers of loam, rock, and gravel. Besides Malbec, there are also good examples of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. Located fifty miles south of Mendoza and stretching for another 50 miles, Uco Valley is another “oasis” that is both an irrigated agricultural corridor for fruits and vines in the shadow of the Andes. Here, the altitude increases considerably from 3,000-5,000 feet with very poor stony soils, which

gives winemakers the opportunity of seeking cooler temperatures and longer ripening periods. Within this valley, considered one of the premier in Argentina, you’ll hear names of the villages dotting the landscape as the local appellations like La Consult, Vista Flores, Tupungato, Tunuyán, Altamira, Gualtallary, and San Carlos. This new buzz in the Argentinian wine industry has permitted increased collaboration between domestic winemakers and even International ones. In the words of Alberto Zuccardi, never this phenomena has been seen in the Argentine wine industry. I guess this is in an illustration on how wine can unify people. For this week, I got a great selection of Argentinian reds. As the weather gets warmer, it is time again to take out the BBQ and enjoy some great cuts of beef!!

5 Important questions you should ask when looking for a retirement home Sponsored

A

By Matt DelVecchio Montreal Times

re you or a loved one considering a move to a retirement home or senior community? Many Canadians have either already made the move or are considering such a move. Some moves are for proactive reasons (i.e. wanting to downsize and enjoy a better quality of life) while other moves are for reactive reasons (i.e. physical or cognitive issues, death of a spouse, safety and security, etc.). Regardless of the reason for wanting to transition into a retirement home, the search for the perfect residence can be stressful and overwhelming. Like any important decision, it takes time, research and preparation to make the best choice in choosing the right retirement home or senior community. Here are 5 important questions you should ask when looking for a retirement home or senior community:

‘Devil’s Itch’ in Disguise By Martha Shannon mtltimes.ca

“Have you ever heard of ‘Devil’s Itch’?” the phonein customer asks. “No, but I am looking it up as we speak.” I scan the horrors of ‘skin on fire’. “It happened to me”, she continues. “I had sunburn and the itching started after I showered. It felt like ants crawling inside me. It was a hell. I called to tell you that your zinc oxide saved me. Nothing else worked. Any cream or lotion I applied made it worse. Yet your zinc worked.” This phone conversation surfaces in my mind several months later in Prince George, BC. A beautiful silver-haired, elegant, woman enters the booth, wide-eyed and anxious. She looks distraught. “I am at a loss.” She manages a smile, “ I do not even know how I made it down to this craft show. I just had to get out of the apartment, but I am not well. I am so itchy I cannot stand it. I do not know what to do. The doctors first thought I had scabies and that was a nightmare. But now they say I don’t have that. Nothing suggested helps. The relentless itching is all over." I thought of the similarity to Devil’s itch and

the resulting torture. As I introduce myself and our product line, I learn her name is Annie. Annie’s situation was not the result of sunburn, but the itching she described was beyond comprehension. By the end of our conversation Annie departed with two Charcoal Clay soap, the Clay Neem, and the Zinc Oxide. She was going to buy salts and apple cider vinegar at her local health store. Annie had no bath in her complex, so we worked with a shower solution. A Shower solution: 1. Apply clay-neem poultice all over. After 5-8 minutes rinse in the shower. 2. Wash with the Charcoal Clay soap, hair included. 3. Spritz the body with salt water. Allow the minerals to be absorbed for a few minutes. 4. Spritz the body with a mix of 1: 4 organic apple cider vinegar and water Rinse in cool water. (You can also use our apple cider vinegar rinse) 5. Apply the zinc or, if you do have a bath, even better. A Bath Solution: 1. Soak in a clay, apple cider vinegar and salt bath. . Add 4 T salt to bath water, 1 cup apple cider vinegar and ½ clay neem. If you want to apply a clay poultice to the skin first, do so, and then submerge

yourself in the bath water. Soak 10-15 minutes. You can use our dead sea salt spa or Himalayan rock crystals, or buy salts like Annie did from your local health food store. 2. Wash all over with the clay soap. Rinse off. 3. Apply the zinc The next day a smiling Annie entered the booth, gave me hug and whispered, “I feel like a new woman. I am not completely itch free but I feel saner and I now have hope that I can have some relief. But I do have a question. You mentioned yesterday that I should do the vinegar spritz once a week. It felt so good. Can I do it more often?” I replied. “Annie, don’t worry about it. Just do what feels good.” I think about Annie a lot. While Annie’s ‘Devil’s Itch’ was not caused by sunburn, it was very real. Hopefully she is continuing to win the battle.
