Montreal's Self-Cleaning Public Toilets To Be Unveiled By: Bonnie Wurst / mtltimes.ca
MONTREAL - In July of 2017, Montreal approved a contract that would see 12 Self-Cleaning public toilets installed in the downtown area and in Old Montreal. They were supposed to be installed last August, but then delayed until that autumn. It has been a long time coming, but last Tuesday the borough of Ville-Marie (downtown) officially announced that the first three of the high-tech public toilets are expected to open this month. The self-cleaning toilets were estimated to cost about $300,000 and it seems the price tag has remained the same - but until the new toilets are installed and the www.mtltimes.ca
final price tag confirmed, will Montrealers know if more money will be have been flushed into them. Using a public washroom in Montreal could be a daunting experience - they are often filthy, smelly and downright disgusting. It starts with one person who somehow manages to mess the floor, the toilet seat and sometimes even the walls - and leads to the next person having to perform an acrobatic act to relieve themselves and often adding to the mess out of necessity. Nonetheless, Montreal's initiative might bring a sigh of relief to those needing to be 'relieved' while out in the city.

MONTREAL - West Island - Every month, thousands of homeowners are faced with the stressful dilemma of whether to buy first or sell first. You see, if you buy before selling, you could run the risk of owning two homes. Or, just as bad, if you sell first, you could end up homeless. It's what insiders in the industry call the Real Estate Catch 22, and it's an extremely anxious position to find yourself in. This financial and emotional tightrope is one you usually have to walk alone because most agents have no way of helping you with this predicament. But one local realtor is using a unique Guaranteed Sale Program which solves this dilemma. This program guarantees the sale of your present home before you take possession of your new one. If your home doesn't sell in 120 days, they will buy it from you themselves for the previously agreed price ensuring that you never get caught in the Real Estate

EL GORDO - It’s Cinco de Mayo today, and what better way to celebrate than with an authentic, Mexican food review! Taqueria El Gordo, located on 2518 Rue Notre Dame Ouest is a mouthful of fresh flavours. At first glance, customers will notice authentic Mexican decor, with unique Calavera (Mexican skull) paintings on the walls. Their menu will please carnivores as well as vegeterians, each selection being tastier than the

next.
We were greeted with their famous cocktails, including their margarita with none othan than tequila as the main ingredient and what a delicious margarita it was! The perfect margarita can’t be too sweet, nor too strong, and their cocktail didn’t fall short of that expectation. Their chips, salsa and guacamole entrée was a great introduction to the flavours we were about to indulge in.

We stuck to the taco menu and chose their portobello tacos topped with goat cheese, cilantro and avocado, on a bed of jalapeno aioli and pico de gallo. These portobello mushrooms were meaty, juicy and surprisingly my favorite. The goat cheese was an interesting touch and definitely made the difference. The next taco on our list was the pescado, also known as fish tacos. The tacos main ingredient being fresh fish with a cucumber, mango, tomato and cilantro salsa topped with a creamy cabbage and avocado cream. Fish tacos are my go-to at any Mexican restaurant. The fish was cooked to perfection. It was flaky and well seasoned. The home made salsa added freshness to the taco. The pairing was perfect. The last tacos we tried were the fried chicken tacos. Definitely not something you see on a Mexican menu everyday. The fried chicken tacos were accompanied with a chipotle mayo, guacamole and a creamy cabbage apple slaw. The chicken was

crispy yet juicy on the inside, just the way any fried chicken should be. Finally, we had the chance to try both desserts on the menu : the lime and cream of coconut pie and their homemade churros with a caramel cream for dunking. The churros were phenomenal! Hot, fresh, crunchy, and soft; there are not enough words to describe how great they were. The pie was refreshing and light. An interesting twist on a traditional key lime pie. If this didn’t get you hungry and craving for tacos, I don’t know what will. It’s Cinco de Mayo! Grab a friend, a boyfriend, girlfriend, husband, wife or partner and take a drive to your nearest tacobar. Order some tequila shots, indulge in tacos and sing Olé! El Gordo will satisfy your taste buds, you won’t want to miss it. El Gordo 2518 Notre-Dame St W, Montreal, QC H3J 1N5 (438) 387-6969 www.elgordo.ca
