Not only will the stations be able to accommodate those in wheel chairs and walkers, but also people who are visually impaired - as well as parents travelling with strollers or passengers with luggage. For the REM, universal access means ‘stations and cars that are designed to include all individuals, including people with functional limitations, in an environment designed to simplify travel’. Included the needs of those with reduced mobility in the system’s design will be much welcomed and offer many the ability to travel autonomously. the experience on board REM cars is expected to be fluid for all passengers. The cars will be equipped with resting places, multi-bar columns and access to vertical columns in clear spaces. There will be reserved seats for people with reduced mobility, clearly indicated using pictographs. Each car will have one reserved spot per car for people in wheelchairs, with enough space to get to the spot from inside the car, as well as areas reserved for strollers that do not impede traffic flow within the car. STATIONS: The sta-

tions will be entirely designed, inside and outside, to meet ‘universal access principals’. Any protruding obstacles in public spaces, stations and bus terminals will be equipped with a device to make them detectable by a white cane. Pedestrian walkways will be free of obstacles and sudden changes in level, allowing individuals with visual impairments to walk alongside the walls with a cane. Lighting will be well positioned, sufficient and not too bright, taking into consideration the sun to avoid sudden changes in brightness. And the floors of stations and bus terminal platforms with waiting areas will have a change of texture where the train doors are located. Right now 26 stations are being built and there is a possibility of another one at the Dorval Circle, where Via Rail and EXO commuter lines have stations. Both the Dorval and Ville Saint-Laurent city councils formally requested the addition and on July 19th, Federal Transport Minister Marc Garneau announced that $2 million will be made available towards a feasibility study for the connection. It remains to be seen whether or not the station will be added to the network. August 3, 2019 •

Almost 10 million visitors travelled to Montreal Airport YUL

DM Aéroports de Montréal has released its consolidated operating results for the three- and six-month periods ended June 30, 2019. Since the beginning of the year,YUL Montréal-Trudeau International Airporthas welcomed 9.7 million passengers, an increase of 5.7% over the same period last year. Montreal Airport (YUL) passengers • YUL is continuing to welcome more and more passengers: 5.0 million passengers in the second quarter of 2019 (+5.0%) and 9.7 million in the first half of 2019 (+5.7% ). • All three activity sectors, international, transborder and domestic, contributed to the growth. The increase was especially pronounced on the international side, with the sector posting a 9.8% increase in passenger traffic for the quarter under review and 10.7% in the six-month period. • With an expanding number of destinations, YUL remains Canada's most international airport as a proportion of its total passenger traffic (among the country's largest airports). • In the second quarter of • August 3, 2019

2019, commercial air movements at YUL dropped by 2.1%, reflecting an increase in the number of passengers per flight. For the first six months of the year, the decline was 1.2%. "The first six months of 2019 show sustained

growth in passenger traffic, demonstrating the strength of MontréalTrudeau as an international hub for air traffic. The management of Aéroports de Montréal wishes to thank its employees and those of the airport community, who con-

tribute every day to achieving these more than satisfactory results, in addition to enhancing the level of service offered to the passengers who visit YUL," said Philippe Rainville, President and CEO of Aéroports de Montréal.

All information about these financial results is available online. In recent months, various initiatives have been deployed: • On July 19, ADM held a ground-breaking ceremony to formally kick off construction work for the future Réseau express métropolitain (REM) station. The first REM metro car will enter the station at YUL in 2023 and will enable users to reach the city centre from the airport in about 20 minutes. • ADM announced its participation in Known Traveller Digital Identity (KTDI), a pilot project that will allow paperless travel between YUL and Schiphol Airport. The first trip using a digital identity for travelers is scheduled to take place in 2020. • ADM committed to increasing the proportion of its light electric vehicles to 100% by 2030 by joining the EV100 initiative aimed at helping compa-

nies adopt electric vehicles. • On May 9, ADM launched WebTrak, the flight data system that provides access to flight paths, aircraft types, altitude and noise levels recorded at different noise measurement stations. This initiative provides citizens with greater accessibility to data related to aircraft activity at YUL. About Aéroports de Montréal ADM Aéroports de Montréal is the airport authority for the Greater Montréal area responsible for the management, operation and development of YUL Montréal-Trudeau International Airport, certified 4-Star according to the Skytrax World Airport Star Rating program, and the YMX International Aerocity of Mirabel.

that is quite evident when you read it; it’s a raw story with a lot of rough edges to it, with many of the characters ending up being quite unrefined. It sort-of makes you understand the raison d’etre of Lee’s publisher to ask her to write another book that would end up being the great American novel that is To Kill A Mockingbird. So before you go ahead and say it’s a total disappointment and demand your money back, read Go Set A Watchman with a total understanding of the circumstances behind the book that I mentioned in this review; in fact, I recommend that you read (or re-read) “Mockingbird” first, in order to reinforce that sense of understanding before you dive into “Watchman”. You may or may not be satisfied with it, but at least you will get a complete portrait of the Finch family of Maycomb, Alabama – warts and all – without seeing it as a much-hyped publicity stunt to garner book sales.

ing kids from 3-18 years had been operating the basketball program for years, providing manpower, training, and a basketball court. Coach Gibbs, who took over as the director of the basketball program in 2008 wanted to maintain the program but didn't know how he was going to manage it without court time

and necessary resources. The basketball program meant a lot to the former staff member who had worked there since his university days and he wasn't going to let his team go down without fighting the good fight. "It's to help kids use basketball as a tool to develop and better themselves," he says. The high school math teacher says employees hadn't been paid for a year-and-a-half by the time the Boys & Girls Club of Lasalle shuttered its doors. "We just continued to go ahead without getting paid," he says. Initially, management held a meeting with the staff, saying that it was just a payroll mix-up and everyone would be paid shortly. Then there was a second meeting and promises made anew that everyone would be paid up in full, but the money never came. Eventually, most of the staff left in search of work elsewhere but Gibbs stayed on hoping things would turn around. "I stayed on because of my relationship with the kids. I wanted to figure

The down side is that this leaves out the recreational program which helps younger kids learn to play basketball while also providing court time for older kids who aren't competitive but still want to play. "The idea is to accommodate the growing interest in basketball for the community," Gibbs says. Shea is an alternative to jelly Beware of commercially sold refined sheas laden with synthetic fragrances and preservatives. Pure shea is best purchased in a good health food store. Select the natural, unrefined, pure. The fatty acid (omega 3,6,9) rich unrefined shea is especially high in Vitamin A and Vitamin E and contains minerals like calcium, magnesium, iron, and copper, all helping to revitalize, firm, protect and nourish the skin. Earth to Body shea is organically grown. We make two different blends: Sheamu (Shea and Emu) and Shargan (Shea and argan). No matter which natural butter you choose for the job, whether a shea, mango, cocoa, avocado, the key is to try to avoid the jelly. Especially the petroleum jelly aliases out there. August 13 is Left handed Day

Charles, Keanu Reeves and Oprah Winfrey have

in common? If you answer "they are all left-handed," you are right! August 13th is Left Handers Day. Full disclosure. I am left handed. In LEFT IS RIGHT: The Survival Guide for Living Lefty in a Right-Handed World, author Rae Lindsay presents an upbeat look at the sinisterly side of life. She lists dozens of well-known people who belong to this "exclusive club" (estimated members in the United States: 40 million), discusses the theories about hand preference and brain organization, and traces the superstitions and religious customs associated

th

with lefties through history. Rae Lindsay writes that "all the world's major languages have special terms for being left-sided or lefthanded...and very few of them are flattering," dating back to the Latin word sinister, which really meant "the pocket side" of togas. In modern languages gauche means "clumsy" or "awkward," mancini indicates "crooked" or "maimed “in Italian; in Romany bongo translates as "evil" or "crooked;" and in Spanish, no ser zurdo means to be "very clever," in other words, not to be lefthanded. Bizarre information is that some people are afraid of left handedness. What causes someone to become a southpaw? Scientists aren’t exactly sure, but research points to a complex collaboration between genes and environment. While no exact set of “leftie genes” have been discovered, people who dominantly use their left hands do have more left-handed family members. Researchers have found different brain wirings in righties vs. lefties. Why exactly people are lefthanded is still a bit of a mystery — partly because left-handed people are

often excluded from scientific research, experts say —There’s no denying it. Left-handers are the odd ones out. Lefties make up about 10 percent of the population but it seems as if society has forgotten about them. Just consider all of the right-handed gadgets, awkwardly designed desks, and cooking tools that fit comfortably only in your right hand. Lefties are more likely to have allergies and are more prone to Migraines. They are more likely to be insomniacs and are three times more likely to become alcoholics – the right side of the brain has a lower tolerance to alcohol!

On the brighter side, lefties seem more adept at processing information and concepts from the right side of the brain, the hemisphere which controls intuitions, the five senses, and "holistic thinking" which allows them to grasp broader concepts, such as an entire painting or musical composition. They are more likely to be on extreme poles of the intelligence scale Lefties are better at 3D perception and thinking and better at multi-tasking. . We certainly shouldn't worry about lefties chances of success: here’s a list of left handed presidents. James A. Garfield, Herbert Hoover, Harry S Truman, Gerald Ford,

Roald Regan, George H W. Bush, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama. Lefties make especially good baseball players, tennis players, swimmers and boxers.Almost 40% of the top tennis players are lefties. Graduating lefties are likely to become 26% richer than right handed graduates. Four of the five original designers of the Macintosh computer were left-handed. One in four Apollo astronauts were left-handed – 250% more than the normal level. It seems the percentages have remained consistent over the years dating back to Neanderthal days so I guess we are here to stay…

House for sale by the owner? Buyer and Seller Beware…

preparing an offer for a buyer, I diligently do the research, to make sure the property is worth a certain price. After researching the “history” of the property (taxes, leans, previous listing information etc.), this revealed a previous Seller’s Declaration from the previous owner, mentioning mold in the attic and decontamination work, amongst other things. Having not received this information by the seller from the beginning, raised an alarming flag to my buyers. The building inspector advised them to back out of the offer. The buyers were very disappointed to say the least! What happened next was that the sellers panicked and realized that despite their good intentions, they misrepresented the property by not knowing exactly what was expected of them from a legal standpoint. The sellers were licensed

contractors and did an excellent job renovating the home! They had purchased that property through a broker but since they were selling without one, they made many errors when “listing” the home by omitting crucial information about the history of the property. This could have ended in the sellers selling to other “unsuspecting” buyers and possible legal issues down the road. In order to resolve the situation, we started from scratch, and put everything on the table using our proven real estate process. The seller was asked to provide all of the documentation and information they

curs when we put up a house for sale in Quebec, and a legal procedure and due diligence that follows. When you sell your home on your own, unless you had a real estate license in your past life, chances are you will omit important steps in the process. One small mistake can cost you the sale or worse, it could land you in court!
