The Montserrat Pre-College Program is designed for students who have the initiative for rigorous visual art instruction at the college level. Spend your summer immersing yourself in a small, creative environment with like-minded people. Challenge your assumptions. Take risks. Test your theories. Discover a new favorite artist. Draw a bad self-portrait. Draw a better self-portrait.

During your Pre-College experience you will have a balance of foundation skills courses and freedom to explore and experiment. This program is designed for high school students entering their junior or senior year who are creative thinkers, doers and are passionate about art making. Montserrat’s Summer Pre-College Program will give you a taste of the art college life. Upon successful completion of the program, students earn college credit toward their BFA degree.

FOUNDATI FREEDOM The curriculum provides Foundation Drawing instruction in preparation for a college portfolio. Foundation Drawing is complemented with 2 elective courses designed to encourage exploration in new media and creative problem solving, while strengthening technical and conceptual skills. Apartment-style accommodations create a true artist-in-residence experience. PreCollege Student living accommodations are at the newly constructed Student Village on Montserrat’s campus. Each apartment has a full kitchen, double bedrooms, bathrooms and common living spaces. From the classroom to your living room, you will be exposed to creative conversation, exploration and creation.

Each apartment has a full kitchen, double bedrooms, bathrooms and common living spaces. From the classroom to your living room, you will be exposed to creative conversation, exploration and creation.

To assist students and ensure that their stay is safe, summer Resident Assistants reside in the apartments. Pre-College students use the buddy system, allowing them to explore the city. All students are required to arrive on campus with a cell phone. Staff and R.A. cell numbers will be provided for safe communication.
