CHAPTER IV
Thanawut, known as “Ohyure”, is a young portrait photographer from Samui, Thailand. His body of work mainly includes portraits of young and beautiful Thai models. He is a photographer who seems to work entirely with natural light that has resulted in very natural photos with a dash of lens flare for a good measure. His portfolio may not be huge, nor his Facebook fans, but he has certainly got an eye that can capture intimate and compassionate view of beauty.
Thanawut Nipitsakul Portrait Photographer
Interviewer:Nichapat Mungkan
Please tell us a little bit about you.
Ohyure : First of all, I have to say thank you for having me. I’m humbled and honored to have my photos published here. I’m just an easy going guy who loves to go outdoors. I am a freelance portrait photographer who shoots wedding for a living and shoots pretty girls out of my pure artistry.
How did you become a photographer?
Ohyure : Well, it happened out of pure luck. I never thought of becoming a photographer at all when I first bought my digital camera. I only wanted to take pictures of places when I was to go outdoors. Not long after I got my camera, some friends invited me to a portrait trip. I became struck by the art of portraiture. In order to achieve a good portrait, so many things would have to be worked
together in harmony such as lighting, posing, compsition, emotion and techniques. Trying to work with those connections has gotten me into portrait photography ever since.(laugh)
What does ‘art’ mean to you?
Ohyure : Personally, I think this word has no limited definition. It is the idea of creating that everyone has within themselves depending on how one might express it. As for myself I express it via my photography.
How would you describe your style?
Ohyure : Well, I really don’t have a term to describe my style. Though some people might say that I had a certain style of lighting. Personally, I don’t really agree if it’s entirely true. I only try to be as creative and as spontaneous as possible without having to venture into flash photography.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
Ohyure : Well, from everyting that has passed into my life, basically. My lifestyle, the music I’ve listened to, people I’ve met, places I’ve visited, pictures i’ve seen- I’m sure all of these things have inspired me in a way, thus my style has essentially evolved.
Do you listen to any music while working?
Ohyure : Not when I shoot though, I usually do when I process the photos.
What kind of music?
Ohyure : Since I’m an easy going guy, I do very much enjoy easy listening songs. (laugh)
What is your favourite piece of work?
Ohyure : hmmm... must be the one that I shot Nhonnoon in Ratchaburi.
What does the word ‘beauty’ mean to you?
Ohyure : Well, to me beauty is like the reminiscence of a moment held in the heart. It’s a feeling that touches your soul and make you feel “Yes, that’s it!!!”. It’s like when you meet a really beautiful woman that makes your heart go”Oh yes, she’s the one!”.(Laugh)
Have any models that you’ve worked with given you that sense of beauty? Ohyure : Oh yes, many of them have, multiple times.(Laugh out loud)
We really have to ask you this question. Have you ever had a crush on any of the models?
Ohyure : Haha, I think this is the most often asked question when interviewing a portrait photograher. To be hornest, yes, there were a few times when it happened. You see, I’m a “straight” male photographer who regularly works with beautiful models. Of course, this kind of thing must happen.(Laugh)
Any specific one that you feel was the How did you proceed then? most beautiful? Ohyure : Well, most of the time I just Ohyure : I’d rather not get into that. (Laugh with blush)
keep those feelings to myself. I’m not the kind of guy who flirts around. I’m a very shy artist, you see... (Laugh)
Have you ever dated any of them?
Ohyure : It almost happened once but never did.
Where do you usually hang out?
Ohyure : I usually hang out with friends in our favourite restaurant near our place. The place is called Dek Liang What happened? Kae Farm and Restaurant. I think it’s very Ohyure : It just didn’t work out. At first there was just some sort of chemistry, but enjoyable to hang out and chat about fun after short while we kind of realised that and other things with people who share similar taste and interests. it would’ve been better off if we were just friends. arts and culture there. The city is famous for friendly people, beautiful girls, chic handicrafts, cool climate and stunning mountain scenery.
Tell us about the last movie you watched.
Ohyure : Well, it’s John Carter. To me, I didn’t enjoy it as much as ‘Avatar. Though there’s something I still like about the film. Its fight scenes are well shot and its special effects are nicely created.
If you could go back in time and fix one thing in your life, what would it be?
once in my life, because at one point everyone needs to make mistakes. I personally have learned more from my mistakes than from my successes. To me, there are no mistakes in life, only lessons.
Who is your dream model to shoot?
Ohyure : It would be Jeab Pichitra. I’ve always dreamed of shooting her. She’s one of those girls who caught my eye immediately. She’s got stunning model quality looks, the perfect hair, the sweet face, and a very sexy body. She’s definitely the sort of Thai girl that guys go crazy for all the time.
Any dream ‘male’ model?
Ohyure : That’s definitely out of the Ohyure : I would fix nothing, really. question.(Laugh) What I am and how the world looks to me today is the result of what happened in the past. I never really regret anything

Who is your favourite Thai artist?
Ohyure : My favourite Thai artist is Mr. Athit Perawongmetha. He’s one of the most wellknown photojournalists from Thailand. There’s something about his style that really touches my heart.
What is your plan in the short future? Ohyure : Well, I just wanna keep travelling to new places as much as I can afford before my body runs out of juice. (Laugh)
