Summer Camp at Holtspur
Pat Steel School of Dance held a fabulous 3-day summer camp for their youngest pupils. Each day saw a combination of different dance classes and the children were also able to have lunch outside and play in the park – at long last being able to run and have fun after months of being in their 2m boxes! They did a treasure hunt, created artwork using materials gathered on a nature walk as well as the all-important face painting and glitter tattoo afternoon, which was the highlight of the week! Exhausting, but incredibly rewarding and their motto of the week was, ‘sometimes you win, sometimes you learn!’ If you’d like to join them and be part of this amazing and exhilarating dance school, check out their new website or call Candy who will be able to guide you to the right venue and class for your child. Tiska Karate teaches respect, self-defence and skills for life
At Tiska Karate, students are taught the importance of fitness and self-defence. From the outset, they learn that karate is to be used for defensive purposes and are reminded never to use their fighting skills outside the dojo (training hall) except in cases of extreme provocation, and even then, only in selfdefence. During the first few weeks of their training, children learn the essentials of basic etiquette. Emphasis is placed on politeness and respect for their fellow students, instructors and parents. They soon become aware that good manners consist of having the utmost consideration for others. Karate can help equip children with essentials skills for life! GR Swimming School – every child is different; every child is equal
GR Swimming School has proudly re-opened and is busy supporting children after the break after lockdown. Owner Jo Lay explains, “I have been approached by parents who are worried that their children will have lost ground (or water!). Every child will be in the same boat. They will start back in their same classes and only move up when they seem fully comfortable. Children can be resistant to change and, after a long time away from the water, they need to be reassured that everything is ok before venturing out of their comfort zone.” GR Swimming Schools is the only local swim school to offer discounted swimming lessons to emergency services Blue Light Card scheme. The 10% discount will be donated to charity. The school has built a reputation for its unique and proven lesson structure, small class numbers and sense of fun. Classes are open for beginners, improvers and advanced swimmers, and run in Compton, Thatcham, Pangbourne and Calcot. The independent family-run business also sees Jo’s daughter lead classes, and her son joining this year to train as a swim teacher. New sessions! Running after school on a Monday, stages 1-6 at The Downs School, Compton. W: www.swimlessons.co.uk
