Tavistock Country Bus
Tavistock Country Bus is a local charity, operating a local bus service run by volunteers. We have a new 16-seater minibus and have been serving the community in Tavistock and the surrounding area for more than 40 years. The service is now emerging from the pandemic in a strong position with two new drivers making a total of nine, and we also have new administrative and timetabling support. Drivers usually spend two to three days per month driving the routes and services which we provide. On Tuesdays, Thursdays & Fridays we provide a Tavistock town service. On Tuesdays & Thursdays we provide a circular route from Tavistock to Launceston passing through local villages. On Fridays we provide a service to Gunnislake, Stoke Climsland and associated villages. On the first and third Wednesdays of the month we provide a popular service to Newton Abbot and Trago Mills. On Saturdays we provide a varied service further afield including such destinations as Truro & Falmouth, Exeter, Barnstaple, Torquay, and Dawlish. Bus & Bike: Why not use our service to take you to the start of your cycling trip? Our minibus can be fitted with a bicycle carrier to take up to three cycles. Please note that booking at least 72hrs prior to the date of intended travel is required for this service. We are constantly reviewing our routes and services, and we work closely with commercial bus services, to try and provide services to residents in places not well served by their bus routes. Volunteering with Tavistock Country Bus
Tavistock Country Bus drivers and administrative support staff are all volunteers and we are always looking for new people to join our team. As we operate under a Section 22 licence, we do not have to hold PCV licences in order to drive our bus. We do ask potential drivers to have a driving review by our driver trainer and we also take you out on a test drive. Providing you have Class D1 on your car licence, you are eligible to drive our bus. Most of our drivers volunteer for two or three days a month but we don’t mind if you could only manage one day a month, you would still be welcome. Interested in finding out more?
