Welcome Everyone! On behalf of the Midwest Alpaca Owners & Breeders Association (MOPACA), the Board of Directors, Officers and the entire Show Committee, we welcome you to the 16th Annual MOPACA Invitational Alpaca Show (also known as “MIAS”). Our amazing Show Committee has worked hard since last year’s show preparing for this event. As Event Coordinator, I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank them for giving freely of their time and expertise to make this another fantastic show. The Show Committee members are noted on our website (www.mopaca.org/mopaca-show) and listed in this show book. If you enjoy the show, please let them know. Now, a very special “Thank You” goes out to our Sponsors. Without them, and their generous financial support, we would not be able to produce the high quality show that we enjoy year after year. They are here for us year after year, and that says a lot about our great show. Also, a big thank you goes to our wonderful show veterinarian, Dr. Brian Hodes. Dr. Hodes, as many of you know, comes from the Rose Hill Veterinary Health Center in Rose Hill, Kansas (just outside of Wichita.) I think you will find, that when it comes to alpacas, he is very knowledgeable, friendly and accessible. Dr. Hodes will be hanging out here at the arena all weekend. Thank you, Dr. Hodes! Our AOA Certified Halter Judges this year are Diana Timmerman and Stephanie Glyptis. Wade Gease will be judging our Walking Fleece entries. I want to welcome back our Show Superintendent, Kim Tollers, and her assistant, Kabby KasaKaitas. They both do an amazing job year after year! This year’s Walking Fleece Superintendents are Brian and Sharon Heimes. I want to thank all of you for your hard work throughout the weekend. Don’t miss our Silent Auction. (P.S., bid often at the Silent Auction – proceeds go to support important alpaca education for owners and veterinarians.) While strolling through the arena, you will see many volunteer fiber artists demonstrating many different forms of fiber art, and I am sure you will want to check them out! The Friday Night Meet & Greet will begin in the main arena at 6:00 PM. We invite you to grab a bite to eat at the Taco Bar. Along with the entire 2019 Show Committee, I would like to welcome you all to the American Royal-Hale Arena, and to Kansas City; hope your stay is enjoyable; and hope to see you back next year. If there is anything I can do to improve your stay, please track me down and let me know. Also, good luck to all exhibitors and participants – go for the purple!!! Warm wishes, Debbie Hoerl Debbie Hoerl – Alpacas of Moose Creek Ranch 2019 MIAS Event Coordinator

Meet the Judges Male Halter Classes, both Suri and Huacaya

Diana Timmerman

Diana will be judging the males, both Huacaya and Suri. Diana is an AOA Halter and Senior Fleece Judge and an Alpaca Judge Trainer and Instructor currently in the United States. Diana received her Certification as an International Alpaca Judge trained in Peru at the International Alpaca Judging School (IAJS ) in 2004. She has actively judged in Canada and the United States since 2001. Diana has over 21 years of experience breeding and showing alpacas and their fleece, along with over 30 years of experience raising other breeds of livestock. Her love for alpacas and her commitment to fleece education was the inspiration that led to the purchase of The Alpaca Breeders Fiber School, LLC. Diana is also an alpaca industry consultant, educator, Fiber Sorter and Grader and working on her Wool Classer status Diana currently serves on the AOA Judges Advisory Committee (JAC) AOA Judge Training and Certification Committee (JTCC) as Liaison and has served on the Advisory Board for the Mid-America Alpaca Foundation, the Board of Directors of The Alpaca Breeders of the Rockies, is a faculty member and owner of the Alpaca Breeders Fiber School, LLC, and past leader of the Leading Llamas and Alpacas 4-H Club. Diana was born in Germany where she lived until she was eight years of age. At that time she came to Colorado with her parents and brother and has remained there. She was employed as a paralegal in private practice and the District Attorney’s Office prior to acquiring alpacas. She has one son, Jeff and his wife Jenessa and a wonderful grandson, Alden Ray. Along with her husband, Tim, they operate Aussie Acres Alpacas, LCC , successfully producing many of the world’s sought after grey and fawn Huacaya breeding stock. They have been honored to have exported their genetics worldwide.,

Females, both Suri and Huacaya

Stephanie Glyptis

Stephanie will be judging the females, both Huacaya and Suri. After graduating from West Virginia University with a degree in animal science, Stephanie Glyptis jumped into alpacas in 2000 as the herd manager for Heart’s Desire Farm, the largest Huacaya herd in West Virginia. This herd of nearly 300 kept her very busy halter training, delivering crias, and managing the daily needs of the alpacas. A very active participant in the show ring, she was finally able to merge her background in dairy cattle judging with alpacas in 2006 when she became an AOA certified judge. Since then, she has judged all over the United States and Canada. Being certified in all aspects of judging, fleece, halter and performance, has become the perfect fit for many shows that only need one judge. Stephanie, her husband Phillip, and their children Teddy and Abigail live in Weirton, West Virginia just outside Pittsburgh, PA. Stephanie runs Solimente Alpaca Consulting and in addition to judging also does education and herd evaluation for alpaca herds.

THE VALUE OF MOPACA MEMBERSHIP The Midwest Alpaca Owners & Breeders Association (MOPACA) is now accepting members nationwide! We are a dynamic organization of currently over 55 alpaca breeders. MOPACA also works toward the growth of the alpaca industry by providing a communication network for alpaca owners and breeders while sharing knowledge of husbandry techniques and marketing among its members. MOPACA strives to promote public awareness of alpacas and their fiber through sponsored educational seminars held throughout the year, including slideshow presentations that are exclusive to members.

Photos by Tasha Schurter

MOPACA members are provided with many benefits; from opportunities to network with other farms to discount sponsorship and show fees. In addition to these benefits, members may access an online video education program presented by the K-State University's Veterinary Continuing Medical Education Department. Access to these online courses, that would otherwise cost thousands of dollars to attend, is free of charge to MOPACA members. MOPACA also has a new website! This site is fresh and exciting and provides members with a marketing area that is no cost - list your animals and breedings for sale without paying a dime! Checkout the new website...we're sure you'll like it. Visit our website for more details on the value of MOPACA membership and how to join!
