MOPACA Alpaca Show - Show book

Page 1

Welcome Everyone! On behalf of the Midwest Alpaca Owners & Breeders Association (MOPACA), the Board of Directors, Officers and the entire Show Committee, we welcome you to the 15th Annual MOPACA Invitational Alpaca Show (also known as “MIAS”). Our amazing Show Committee has worked hard since last year’s show preparing for this year’s event. As Event Coordinator, I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank each and every one of them for giving freely of their time and expertise to make this another fantastic show. The Show Committee members are noted on our website (www.mopaca.org/ mopaca-show) and listed in this show book. If you enjoy the show, please let them know. Now, a very special “Thank You” goes out to our Sponsors. Without them, and their generous financial support, we would not be able to produce the high quality show that we enjoy year after year. Also, a big thanks goes to our wonderful show veterinarian, Dr. Brian Hodes. Dr. Hodes, as many of you know, comes from the Rose Hill Veterinary Health Center in Rose Hill, Kansas (just outside of Wichita.) I think you will find, that when it comes to alpacas, he is very knowledgeable , friendly and accessible. Dr. Hodes will be hanging out here at the arena all weekend. Thank you, Dr. Hodes! Our AOA Certified Halter Judges this year are Wade Gease and Diana Timmerman, and Sara Jane Maclennan for Walking Fleece. I want to welcome back our Show Superintendent, Kim Tollers, and her assistant, Kabby KasaKaitas. They both do an amazing job year after year! This year’s Walking Fleece Superintendents are Brian and Sharon Heimes. I want to thank all of you for your hard work throughout the weekend. Along with our Halter Show this year, you will notice we have a third ring for the Walking Fleece Show. The Walking Fleece show is new to MOPACA this year and we hope you enjoy it. Don’t miss our Silent Auction. (P.S., bid often at the Silent Auction – proceeds go to support important alpaca education for owners and veterinarians.) While strolling through the arena, you will see many volunteer fiber artists demonstrating many different forms of fiber art, and I am sure you will want to check them out! The Friday Night Meet & Greet will begin in the main arena at 6:00 PM. We invite you to grab a bite to eat, and quench your thirst at the cash bar. Along with the entire 2018 Show Committee, I would like to welcome you all to the American Royal-Hale Arena, and to Kansas City; hope your stay is enjoyable; and hope to see you back next year. If there is anything I can do to improve your stay, please track me down and let me know. Also, good luck to all exhibitors and participants – go for the purple!!! Warm wishes, Debbie Hoerl – Alpacas of Moose Creek Ranch 2018 MIAS Event Coordinator

THE VALUE OF MOPACA MEMBERSHIP The Midwest Alpaca Owners & Breeders Association (MOPACA) is accepting new members nationwide! We are a dynamic organization of currently over 50 members. There are two membership types, Farm Level or Fiber & Business Level. Please see the insert on this page for a description of membership benefits. MOPACA works toward the growth of the alpaca industry by providing a communication network for alpaca owners, breeders, fiber enthusiasts and businesses on a variety of topics including husbandry techniques and marketing. MOPACA strives to promote public awareness of alpacas and their fiber through sponsored educational seminars and quarterly newsletters where member farms and/or businesses are frequently highlighted. The alpaca industry is changing and we plan to change with it.

MOPACA members are provided with many benefits; from opportunities to network with other farms to discount sponsorship and show fees. In addition to these benefits, members may access an online video education program presented by the K-State University's Veterinary Continuing Medical Education Department. Access to these online courses, that would otherwise cost thousands of dollars to attend, is free of charge to MOPACA members.
