Lara Heller's first movie The Cut, won the Vittorio Veneto Award at the Film Festival in Venice. A story about a father searching for his twin daughters-played by Lara Heller. The film is endorsed by Martin Scorsese, "The Cut is a genuine, hand-made epic, of the type that people just don't make anymore."

Lara's latest movie TROY is set in advanterous locations, she explains: "Thailand is paradise to film in! We were shooting at nighttime deep in the jungles. It was surreal with the sounds of frogs in the background, birds and thick trees all around. On our first day of filming thousands of dragon flies flew into our shot. That was magical moment and I took it as a good sign. I love nature, I grew up in the forrest’s of Switzerland and Germany. Location shoots surrounded by animals and trees are my favo-urite. The university we filmed in was Thailand’s first international university, it is where we filmed Troyan war scenes. Boat scenes were a real challenge. The heat is very powerful and we worked 12 hour days. The insects were gigantic compared to Europe!

We shot the movie in 9 days. This is very ambitious;usually shoots last a month. My favo-urite location were limestone caves underground. The dark winding caves had the size of a baseball stadium. It felt like a fairyland of stalactites, stalagmites and stone pillars. The movie has some fantastic locations and we saw hidden jewels in Thailand off the beaten path. The fencing and fight sequences were my favourite as action sequ-ences teach me so much in new skill sets. You persued acting early and you trained actinge se early abroad? How was this experience and your growing up? Lara: "We moved around a lot when I grew up. My family lived in England, Luxembourg Germany and Switzer-land. At home we spoke English and Farsi, outside the home French and German. I enjoy communicating in multiple languages.

Differences in cultures pulled me into acting and I seek to play different nationalities. It’s a blast to live so many other lives for each film. There’s something exciting about experiencing glimpses into other time zones when we recreate stories of the past. I trained in Theatre school in Belgium at 15, attended Arts Ed drama school and I continue to train in LA. It’s like going to the gym-it helps so much to work those emo-tional muscles on a regular basis.

I live between London and as of recently LA too. I’m very open as to where I live and film and would love to work in Turkey. I’ve been there for many family holidays over the years and I adore Istanbul. When I'm not filming, I continue training in acting class and

I try to stay as fit as possible. I spend time with my family, who I miss when I'm abroad. Especially as my grandma is 92 now. I have a small dog, German spitz, and I will go paddle boarding with him in the sea in Brighton if there’s time. A good homemade meal surrounded by people I love is the perfect day.


You worked with director Fatih in an award-winning film, how was this experience and does your internationl bacground help you on the movie set? Lara: "Speaking different languages has helped with work. It means that if another actor prefers to speak in say Farsi, French or German we can talk in their foreign tongue. Humour and expression is also so interconnected with a specific country and speaking other languages helps building characters rooted in that world. I’d love to learn Turkish for a film. Yes, I worked with Fatih Akin, I was very lucky to be a part of The Cut. It was my first film and I’m blessed to have such a kind and talented director on my first set. The script was blew me away. Our writer, Mardik Martin, wrote Mean Streets and Raging Bull. Two films I love! And Fatih’s films all have such great character arcs. I was ecstatic to be part of the team. I’ve always felt connected to Turkey. We would go on holiday to Ankara, Bodrum and Marmaris growing up. Everyone’s so friendly and kind. It feels like home. Maybe that’s why I got on so well with our director, Tekin Girgin, when we shot Troy The Odyssey. The film is a fictitious story inspired by Greek mythology. The challenge of a tight shoot schedule and the action sequences excites me. It was tough in a good way and helped me grow."

Could you share with readers how you spend December holidays? Lara: "I’ll be in Denver this Thanksgiving and back in London for Christmas. The German side of my family decorate the house with 1950s decorations. We get a big tree and feast on too much yummy food." Finally, could you please say why we should see Troy? If you like action and adventure tales then check out Troy. The locations are beautiful and it’s a fun film. Such a tight shooting schedule is rare and it may be interesting for film makers to see what we did in a tight deadline. Thank you so much Lara! You live and film across the Globe , which countries would you like to visit soon again privately and professionally?

Lara: "I’ve been fortunate enough to film on location mainly. Canada was one of the most beautiful locations countries I’ve filmed in. We shot in the Badlands in an old cowboy town. I hope to film in as many places as possible. Turkey would be amazing and I'm excited to film more in the U.S. and Europe too. There are so many beautiful locations, it’s hard to pick.The more I learn the wider my imagi-nation expands. It’s exciting! I studied law for my undergra-duate degree because I was keen to explore both artistic and academic avenues. The more experiences the better-as it all helps to build characters."

Bespoke ‘Spirit of Calligraphy’ Ghost Rolls-Royce Motor Cars showcased the capabilities of its Bespoke programme at this year’s Dubai Motor Show as it unveiled a special one-off commission. Hand-painted calligraphy on the fascia of the one-of-a-kind car is created by renowned Arabic calligrapher Khalid Al Saaei, shaping Sir Henry Royce’s iconic words “Take the best that exists and make it better. When it does not exist, design it” in their Arabic form into the Rolls-Royce’s mascot, the Spirit of Ecstasy.

On the back of their participation in Fashion Forward 2017, Baume & Mercier announced the auctioning of special creations, done in collaboration with three of the region’s most well-known designers, Hussein Bazaza, Zayan Ghandour and Rula Galayini. Auction proceeds will be donated to Dubai Cares, the UAE based global philanthropic organization working towards providing children and young people in developing countries with access to quality education. His Excellency, Tariq Al Gurg, Chief Executive Officer at Dubai Cares said: “Supporting girls’ education is one of the single best investments we can make to help nations overcome the cycle of poverty. With such valuable support from Baume & Mercier, we believe that the private sector can play a key role in this equation and this auction is a great example on how watch brands can help us in empowering children, notably girls, through education.” Dubai Cares’ 3-year program in Egypt aims to cultivate girls’ leadership skills through extracurricular activities and sports, and enabling them to put these skills into practice through participating in Student Unions. Despite near-universal enrollment in primary education in Egypt, a recent study conducted by the Population Council, found that around 26% of girls surveyed in the country’s frontier governorates, and 23% of those surveyed in rural parts of Upper Egypt, had never attended school, as opposed to 10% and 7% of boys surveyed in these respective area.
