none of them can enter this place. greenleaf and gnorton have magic in their blood and vyrle... vyrle is even worse... the dragon would sense them in an instant.. and no force of arms or arcane powers can defeat the dragon.

story & colour Moray Rhoda Illustration Karl Mostert

Wait here for me. I cannot risk you going any further... I need not tell you that the fate of our world depends on your survival. it needs to be someone who is just human.

we should wait for the others...

but why does it have to be you, lilith?! it’s crazy! I don’t care if it’s the ultimate magic weapon, it’s not worth your life!

who are we to say whether one life outweighs the fates of millions? You’ll be faced with these hard choices one day - best you make peace with it now.

but it isn’t your choice. you were chosen. that is your fate... no matter what happens next, you stay alive and you stay hidden.

what if I don’t want to be the saviour of the world? what if I don’t want the stupid sword and I don’t want you to do this. what if that is my choice?

2

minutes later...

3

THIEVES!!! always you come! no matter how many I slay, on you march to your death, blinded by greed!

this world is destroyed because of such weapons and those who dare wield them!.

I’m no thief, ancient one, but this world needs that weapon

how vain and blind you are to think you can save this world...

when you cannot even save yourself!

4

Nooo!!

let her go! Now!!

She didn’t want this! any of it. let her go or i’ll make you sorry, you horrible wyrm!

5

hmmmmm.... feisty little mortal isn’t it? tasty little morsel maybe too?

nice going kid. didn’t you hear anything I said? no force of arms and no arcane powers?! cyndarr can’t be beaten, you might as well have had a stick for all the good it would have done.

what... what’s going on?

cut it out cyn... and let me up if you’re quite done copping a feel.

cyndarr is a friend of ours. sometimes it is better to ask, rather than attempt to take what belongs to another...

brave... but not too smart. called me a wyrm! bah!!

so... it was a test? there’s no ultimate weapon?

there is an ultimate weapon that you already wield. it is loyalty and love strong enough to face any odds. it weaves a magic that will align an army of friends to your cause...and save this world. can I still keep the sword? it’s pretty sweet...

May I come in?

39

Yes, Get inside before you catch a cold.

How on earth did you get up here?

I climbed.

In this weather!? That is very irresponsible and dangerous.

It is uncanny. You look so much like your grandmother.

I will go through any obstacle and face any danger to be in your presence.

Your grandmother was a beautiful woman. You got her looks.

Why thank you. I’m surprised you saw the photo.

40

I Haven’t seen you in awhile...

Meddling in affairs that has nothing to do with you?

41

This pursuit of yours is very entertaining, but futile.

I will finish what he started.

You will pay for what you did!

Yes, that was unfortunate, but I am not to blame. I never intended to harm your brother...

42

You sir, are NOT your father.

I merely wanted to give him a better life.

Get away from him!

After that James became tenacious in his efforts to end my life.

43

He hunted me across the seas. He started to take out my crew.

He finally slow ed down when I took his hand.

But alas I grew tired of the game and he got too old to play any further part in it, so I nudged him along.

I have returned for my kiss.

I said I have waited three generations for my kiss, I will not be denied again.

My kiss!

45

No!

STOP!

Today you die! To die will be an awfully big adventure... but not today.

Gaining Velocity - going above and beyond Velocity started as little more than a dream of artists collaborating across continents and the ideal of promoting artists from Australia and South Africa internationally. Since our last issue we have lived that ideal by promoting our artists at Design Indaba South Africa and at San Diego Comic-Con as well as getting Velocity listed on Comixology. Inbetween we have also put together the largest South African and Australian comic collaboration to date, with the Darker Forces: Devastation and Degeneration flipbook. With each project Velocity aims to broaden the exposure of Southern hemisphere comics to the rest of the world. At home we have seen an explosion of the local comic

scenes, with more books produced and more artists getting international recognition than ever before. It has been glorious... But it hasn’t been easy and from our experience, there is still a long hard slog ahead. However we’ll keep on going as long as the fantastic talent in our countries keep on pushing up their levels. And knowing that you are along for the ride Dear Faithful Reader, makes our resolve to create international awareness of our artists even stronger. We hope you enjoy the read.
