Green Gartside & Alexis Taylor

moremusic.org.uk/g-t

Thursday 14 December | Doors 7.30pm Expect a real sense of occasion as two extraordinary voices from the realm of UK music royalty are brought together for this rare live outing. Green Gartside’s band, Scritti Politti, combined punk’s raw energy with gritty experimental sounds and strident melodic pop. After four critically acclaimed albums in the ‘80s and ‘90s, they delighted their fans in 2006 with a comeback and Mercury Prize-nominated album White Bread, Black Beer. Alexis Taylor fronts acclaimed synth-pop outfit, Hot Chip. His solo work consists of stripped-back, deeply personal piano-driven melancholia. One of merely a handful of performances, this double bill features top-drawer musicianship, exquisite vocals and genuine warmth between the artists. 12

Mortal Mirror 16 September Alanna Rusch “A few years ago I went on Amazon and bought a whole host of books that started with ’the secret language of…’. I thought these books will hold all sorts of symbolic meaning that I can use… and they did! 'The Secret Language of Birthdays', to be precise. This book has a title for each day of the year. The titles are brilliant! They’re humorous, but also to be held with pride. I felt these titles needed to come out of the books and started painting portraits of my friends and family. There is so much pleasure to be had in finding out your own title and thinking up a kindred image.”

Saturday 21st October | 10am - 4pm Beth de Lange has been leading community choirs and drumming groups in Derbyshire for the past 19 years. She also set up and led the Derby Georgian Choir to meet her particular interest in traditional Georgian singing. Her motivation is simply that singing in harmony with other people makes her feel great, and she enjoys sharing her favourite songs with others. She has a particular interest in music from different world cultures, as well as folk music from the British Isles. Beth welcomes all voices, and believes that everyone can enjoy singing. All songs are taught by ear, so no need to read music. You can expect; a fun warm up, at least one Georgian song, one Jewish Niggun (a song without words), and some of Beth's own arrangements of world and folk music.
