WELCOME
From our base in Morecambe’s West End just off the prom we’re certainly aware of the weather! Gales blow in from the bay, but it’s never long to a glorious sunset. This does mean any discussion about climate and the environment is – literally – close to home.
APR—SEP20
Welcome to our April – September Right Here Season. It’s a by turns joyful, thought provoking, and engaging few months with an environmental theme. That Spring Thing celebration and Catch the Wind Kite Festival return to remind us about the elements, with fun activity for all the family. We’ll be working towards a community performance “Right Here, Right Now” for September. Look out for opportunities to get involved. There will also be exhibitions “For Peat’s Sake” and “Climate Action Now” showing love and concern for our area. The here and now is reflected in the gig programme too. “Viva Declaration” brings music and poetry exploring migration and human rights. I’m particularly looking forward to Nani bringing ancient traditions up to date with her Middle Eastern inflected jazz. And as ever we have many music making sessions right here for you to be involved in. See you soon at our home here near the bay and out and about! Loz Kaye – Artistic Director

Let Spin are a versatile post-jazz four piece with an egalitarian musical ethos. Comprising composerinstrumentalists Moss Freed (guitar), Ruth Goller (bass), Finlay Panter (drums), and Chris Williams (saxophone). With their particular blend of elusive melodies, heavy grooves, euphoric improv and playfulness with time, Let Spin’s electrifying live shows have left UK audiences awestruck. Their inspirations are far-reaching: from Rage Against The Machine, to Hermeto Pascoal; Bill Frisell to J. S. Bach – coalesced into a sound that is truly their own. The enthusiasm of each performer has led them to work with some of contemporary jazz’s most exciting acts: Laura Jurd, Sarathy Korwar, Led Bib, Beats & Pieces Big Band and Melt Yourself Down amongst others. Yet ultimately, it is within this combination that their creativity truly shines.

GIGS
GIGS Nani Nani is an acclaimed international singer, composer, pianist and trombonist who brings a breath of fresh air into the jazz and world landscape with her hypnotising vocals, often compared to Mercedes Sosa and Nina Simone. Her timeless compositions blend Middle Eastern music, North African beats & Nani’s own composed Ethnic-Jazz songs.
WHEN
Her music has distant leanings to Flamenco, North African music and Sephardic traditional song, with timeless melodies and fluid improvisation, but more importantly, she is the only known artist to revitalise the ancient Ladino language of her grandmother’s Morocco, bringing it into the spotlight and upto-date with material resonant with our own times.
