Hello All the elements come together for the autumn season at More Music. Expect fire, lights and lanterns, music, spectacle and stories. With a deepening focus on work in the West End of Morecambe , we invite you to the Fun Palace (also our open day) in October and to the Winter Lantern Festival in December to enjoy what we can do as a community, whether you live here or not. The programming team at The Hothouse continue their great band choices with high class national touring acts. Sam Lee, Moulettes, Seckou Keita, Partisans and The East Pointers will be gigs that will enchant and enthral you. Become a regular visitor to The Hothouse, listen and make music with us, you are always welcome. Our world music developments include a three week residency with a full Javanese Gamelan of Gongs, Kempul, Gender and more! You can play on it, learn on it or just come and listen and soak up the vibrations. We are very excited that the Gamelan will become a key part of the Light Up Lancaster Festival as More Music occupies the Castle with fire and music and stories.

Plus support Slytones and Science of the Lamps Sat 19 Sept | Doors 7.30pm Hothouse favourites Moulettes return! They are a British band of Björk, Frank Zappa and Gentle Giant loving multi-instrumentalists that weave several genres together. Their three part harmony female vocals, amplified cello, distorted bassoon, drums, double bass, guitars and synths are woven into an incomparable and surreal alt.pop/ progfolk universe.

West End Fun Palace and Open Day Sat 3 Oct | 12pm – 4pm We believe in the genius in everyone, in everyone an artist and everyone a scientist, and that arts and sciences can change the world for the better. A day of inspiring vocal harmony Led by Anni Tracy Sat 17 Oct | 9.30am – 4pm Take some time out of ordinary life to come and learn an eclectic mix of songs from around the world and around the corner, in a joyous day of glorious harmony. Anni has been leading singing workshops for over 15 years, working with the premise that everyone can sing, and that “it’s a feel good way to spend a day.” No experience necessary.

Seckou Keita

Plus support Gwyneth Glyn Sat 24 Oct | Doors 7.30pm Following the critical acclaim of his award-winning collaborative project with Welsh harpist Catrin Finch, the extraordinary Senegalese kora player Seckou Keita is striking out in 2015 with a new solo album and UK tour. Seckou is joined by Gwyneth Glyn, Welsh poet, writer and singer of songs, Gwyneth explores her own folk heritage in her own mother-tongue.

Since their formation in 1996, Partisans have been thrilling audiences with their ferociously energetic performances and is co-led by two preeminent musicians of their generation, Phil Robson (guitar) and Julian Siegel (sax, clarinet). The quartet’s line-up is completed by Thaddeus Kelly (bass) and Gene Calderazzo (drums).

The East Pointers

Following on from the success of Jane Siberry and The Bills gigs at The Hothouse we have emerging Canadian trio The East Pointers. They will get your hands clapping and your feet stomping. They are accomplished musicians - banjoist Koady Chaisson, fiddle player Tim Chaisson, and guitarist Jake Charron - who have a penchant for traditional Celtic tunes of decades past that greatly belies their respective ages.

Song Writing for Community Choirs with Ali Burns

Sat 5 & Sun 6 Sept | 10am – 4pm A weekend looking at ways of devising text, great tunes, harmonies, structure and crafting of songs for choirs and singers with Ali Burns.

Ways into Workshops Sat 26 & Sun 27 Sept 10am – 4.30pm Music making, personal exploration and continuing professional development. This course will be a creative and practical exploration of the many ways to lead music workshops in different settings. You’ll play music with other musicians, discover new approaches to music making with groups, add to your repertoire and uncover the nuts and bolts of workshop theory.
