PI Skylines – work related to PI-day 3-14-2019 Students’ age:

10 years old student, grade 5

Subject:

Media Education – 2 lessons per week (basics of computers , Office)

Project idea:

Introduction into creating charts with EXCEL (lesson near the date of PI Day that should be celebrated by a short activity)

Lesson plan:

It was a lesson that combined mathematics with the current topic of Media Education. Students got to know about the “mysterous number PI” and measured the diameter and the circumference of round objects and calculated the ratio via Smartphone app as they did not know how to devide decimals (this is topic of grade 6). They learn about the history of PI and saw a video about an Americal girls that knows 3000 decimal places of PI correctly by heart. Then I showed the students a an hand-painted art work that sybolizes number PI with bars.

I explained shortly how to do it with EXCEL. .I told them to use colours and hide axes and lettering to make it more artful. Follow-up:

More exmaples and training how to create different graphics with EXCEL
