Loft conversions – Are they for you ?

The most interesting thing about loft conversions is that they can be performed in many different ways. Get it right, and you have a light airy room, which promises a gorgeous space for an extra bedroom that the kids will fight over, or a light office, which is a joy to escape to. Get it wrong and you’re basically sticking a sweatbox at the top of your house.

The way you go about your loft conversion depends on the sort of person you are, and there are some people who worry so much about getting it wrong that they don’t get around to getting it done. There are a few things that you can do in order to have the perfect loft space, and hopefully this article will be able to help you to make up your mind as to whether you are confident enough to go ahead.

ď śLoft conversions have long been the extension choice of many homeowners, especially in areas where property prices are high and space is an issue. Builders offering loft conversions are ten a penny, and it’s a great way for a good builder to make money.

ď śHowever, you need to make sure you check out your prospective builders credentials, because not all builders are honest, and unfortunately, it would be a very expensive mistake to make if you got it wrong. Check out online reviews for the builder. ď śMost honest builders have references, or are able to give contact details of previous clients in order that you can check them out for yourself.

Beware of builders who give you an unrealistic time frame for this job. A good builder will know how long it is likely to take and will not cut corners. You may find that if you want a job done properly, that you will need to be inconvenienced for a little longer than expected.  With the average loft conversion adding up to 20% onto the value of your house, it’s a small price to pay for a short time.

ď śOf course, there will be inconveniences. Builders will be in your house for a time, and many people prefer to move out whilst their loft conversion is being done. You don’t necessarily have to though, and you can request that your builder works from the outside on scaffolding so you can continue to move around your home as normal.

Next is choice. If you’re going to do something, do it right. There is no point whatsoever in having your loft done so that you can put stuff in it. Plan what room you want it for, or even rooms. Some people can get two small bedrooms and a toilet up there, and if you have kids, that’s a great idea.

ď śPlan the colours you want and how light you want the room to be. You’re not just stuck with standard velux windows for choice, there are many more options available, and you can even have a massive glass panel opening your house up to the stars at night!

One of the most important things you need to think of is what’s going on in other homes in your street. Chances are, you will be able to convert both at the front and back of your property, which will offer you a huge space to work with. Finally, check also whether you will need planning permission for your elevation. Our company loft creations ltd offers more information below.

Its important to know the rules as it would be terrible to have your gorgeous new conversion torn down, as it didn’t have planning permission! Find more details about attic conversions here :
