Media
is
changing
our
lives
In 2010, children ages 8-18 spent 7.5 hours with media. The highest being with social media.
Which is changing family life.
Children today are born with technology at their fingertips and mediating how children use this media is now an important issue for parents to consider.
How is MEDIA affecting youth?
Children learn from the content of media.
This media affects the child’s beliefs and can influence their behaviors.
The impact of media depends upon what the media is being used for and the motivations, abilities, and disposition of the child.
Media also can take the place of important developmental activities.
IDENTITY IS LOST ONLINE
Parental attachment can have an impact on a child’s relationships.
If a parent and child have a secure relationship, then the child is likely to grow to be more autonomous and develop good social skills.
Low parental support leads to more difficulties in social interaction for the child, who is then less able to establish friendships and resolve conflict in their relationships.
Children look to the Internet as a way to compensate for any alienation they might recieve from their peers.
