THIS IS CUT THROUGH THE CENTER PROGRAM. THE CHANGE IN ELEVATIONS ARE TO ALLOW FOR PROGRAM TO BE PLACED INTO THE SITE WHILE ALSO ALLOWING PEOPLE TO FREELY PASS OVER IT. ALSO IT IS LEFT OPEN ON THE LEFT SIDE FOR RETAIL WHILE IT IS CLOSED OFF TO THE WAREHOUSE SIDE.
BY PLACING THE STAGE IN THE CENTER BETWEEN THE TWO OPEN GREEN AREAS THIS ALLOWS FOR TWO DIFFERENT TYPES VENUES TO TAKE PLACE IN WITHIN THE SAME SPACE. WHILE BOTH SIDES CAN BE USED TO THE FULLEST EXTENT THE GRASS IS PENETRATED BY THE PATH AND CREATES A LARGER AREA ON THE LEFT AND A SMALLER ON THE RIGHT.
LARGE
THE LIFT OF THE LANDSCAPE ALLOWS FOR PROGRAM TO FIT UNDERNEATH WHILE STILL ALLOWING AN UNBROKEN PATH TO OCCUR ABOVE
PUSHING DOWN INTO THE LANDSCAPE ALLOWS FOR THE OR WALK ON AND ALSO PROJECT AREA TO BE FILLED WITH WATER AND THE SLOPE ALLOWS FOR PEOPLE TO WADE INTO IT
SMALL
LIFTING THE LANDSCAPE UP ALLOWS FOR A SLOPE IN WHICH TO LAY OR WALK ON AND ALSO PROJECT MOVIES FROM ONTO THE EXISTING WAREHOUSE

PROVIDE HELP AND COUNSEL:
BY CREATING A HOMELESS SHELTER IN SAN ANTONIO, HAVEN FOR HOPE, HAS CLEANED UP THE HOMELESS SIGHTS IN DOWNTOWN BY 80%
THE CHAPEL IS FOR THE USE OF MEMBERS AND PUBLIC TO GAIN HELP AND COUNSEL FROM VOLUNTEERS. HAVEN FOR HOPE PROVED THE EFFECTIVENESS OF JOB PLACEMENT AND TRAINING PROGRAMS. 832 JOB PLACEMENTS SINCE OPENING; AVERAGING 33 PER MONTH IN THE LAST 12 MONTHS. JOB PLACEMENTS THROUGH HAVEN FOR HOPE HAVE GONE UP 44% FROM THIS TIME LAST YEAR
THE CHAPEL WILL GIVE A NEW VIEW OF HOMELESSNESS TO THE PUBLIC. THIS WILL BECOME A BEACON FOR THE PUBLIC TO ASSOCIATE HOMELESSNESS TO. THE CHAPEL WILL BE DERIVED FROM THE BASIC FORM OF A VIEWPORT AND HUMANS NATURAL LINE OF SITE IN PLAN AND SECTION. QUITE LITERALLY FORMING A PERSPECTIVE FOR THE PUBLIC.
PUBLIC
TENTS
HAVEN FOR HOPE ALSO CREATES JOBS FOR THE PUBLIC AND ALSO FOR THE HOMELESS MEMBERS TO STEP INTO.
THE INITIAL CONCEPT IS TO CHANGE THE PERSPECTIVE OF THE PUBLIC ON THE HOMELESS CONDITION. TO DO THIS I START WITH A VIEWPORT WITH NO RESTRICTIONS. THE VIEWPORT IS AIMED TOWARD THE TENTS.
BY PLACING WINDOWS UNDERNEATH THE PROTRUDING BEAMS, THIS ALLOWS FOR THE OUTSIDE SPACES TO VISUALLY CONNECT INTO THE SPIRITUAL SPACE THAT IS THE INTERIOR OF THE CHAPEL.
THE FIRST RESTRICTION IS THE GROUND PLANE. THIS BEGINS TO CONTROL THE VIEW OF THE PUBLIC.
THE PREMISE BEHIND THE PANELING OF THE WINDOWS IS THAT EACH ONE FRAMES A UNIQUE VIEW OF THE TENT AND CONDITIONS THAT THE HOMELESS ARE LIVING IN. THIS WAS PULLED FROM THE PRECEDENT 100 11th AVENUE BY JEAN NOUVEL.
THE SECOND RESTRICTION IS A SERIES OF BEAMS THAT LIMITS THE PUBLICS VIEW AS THEY FIRST COME IN. AS THE PUBLIC MOVES FARTHER INTO THE SPACE, THE VIEW BECOMES LESS RESTRICTED AND OPPRESSING AND BECOMES MORE OPEN AND LIGHT. GIVING A BETTER VIEW AND SPACE AS YOU NEAR THE TENTS. THE BEAMS SPACING IS REGULATED BY THE FIBONACCI SEQUENCE.
THE COUNSEL SPACES REQU SECLUSION AND PRIVACY, AND I WANTED THEM TO BE FILLED W LIGHT. SO USING LA ESTANICA A PRECEDENT I AM USING BANDS FROSTED GLASS TO GIVE A PRIV FEEL TO THE SPACES.
UIRE YET WITH AS A S OF VATE
THE THIRD RESTRICTION BECOMES THE INTRODUCTION OF COUNSEL/MEETING SPACES TO THE PROGRAM. ALTHOUGH THIS RESTRICTS THE VIEW, IT ALLOWS THE PUBLIC TO SEE THE HOMELESS SEEKING HELP TO IMPROVE THEIR SITUATION.
THE MAIN ENTRANCE HAS A PROCESSION FROM THE SERVICE CENTER. TO THE CHAPEL. THIS DESIGN ALLOWS FOR THE COURTYARD TO BE VIEWED, AND YET GLASS PANES BETWEEN THE MEMBERS DOES NOT ALLOW CONTRA BAN TO BE PASSED INTO THE SECURE AREA. ALSO BY CONTINUING THE ENTRANCE INTO THE CHAPEL THIS ADS ANOTHER RESTRICTION TO THE PUBLICS VIEW UPON FIRST ENTRY
TO CREATE A SEMI-PRIVATE PROGRAM OUTSIDE, THE LOWER BEAMS ARE EXTENDED OUTWARD. THIS CREATES LIGHTLY DEFINED SPACES THAT WILL ALLOW FOR OPEN MEETING AREAS.
THE SECOND ENTRANCE IS LESS GRAND . THIS ENTRANCE IS SPECIFICALLY FOR PROSPECTS COURT HOMELESS. BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT IN THE PROGRAM THEY DO NOT GET A GRAND ENTRANCE. THIS ENTRANCE HELPS ENCOURAGE THE MORE CHRONIC HOMELESS TO SEEK HELP.

THIS PROJECTS’ PURPOSE WAS TO CREATE A COVERED RAPID TRANSIT STATION THAT ALLOWED FOR GROUND AND TRACK LEVEL USAGE
A SYMBIOTIC RELATIONSHIP IS ONE IN WHICH BOTH PARTICIPANTS IMPROVE FROM EACH OTHER’S INTERACTIONS. THIS DESIGNS FOCUS WAS T BETWEEN THE COVERED STATION AND THE TRACKS OF BART. ALL THE CONNECTIONS ARE MINIMAL AND LIGHT, MINIMIZING THE PHYSICAL IN EXPERIENCE FROM FAR AWAY IS ONE OF LITTLE TO NO VISUAL CONNECTION. THE EXPERIENCE FROM UNDERNEATH THE ROOF IS ONE OF CO TION BETWEEN THE TWO. THE STRUCTURE THAT HOLDS THE ROOF, COMES UP FROM ONE SIDE AND CONTOURS TO THE ROOF AND COMES DO
TO CREATE A SYMBIOTIC RELATIONSHIP NTERACTION BETWEEN THE TWO. THE OMPLETE IMMERSION IN THE INTERACOWN THE OTHER SIDE.

THROUGH THE STUDIES OF ARCHITECTURE IN SEOUL, A FOCUS WAS PLACED ON PATH AND TRANSITION. THIS WAS DONE BY SPECIFICALLY LOOKING AT PATH AND HOW THE SEQUENCE OF SPACES CREATES TRANSITIONAL SPACES AND PLACE. WHEN GIVEN THE SITE THE DECISION WAS MADE TO CREATE ONE GIVEN PATH THAT HAD AN OSCILLATION OF SPACES THAT WOULD THEN BECOME PROGRAM. BECAUSE PATH IS CREATED THROUGH OUTER BOUNDARIES AND INNER WALLS THE FIRST STEP WAS TO DECIDE HOW AND WHERE THOSE WALLS WOULD BE PLACED. THE CHOICE TO LOWER THE PATH INTO THE GROUND WAS DUE TO TWO DECISIONS. THE FIRST WAS THAT PATH NEEDED TO BE THE FOCUS, NOT THE OBJECTS THAT WERE ALONG THE PATH. TO TAKE AWAY THE VISUAL HIERARCHIES OF THE OBJECTS, THEY WERE LOWERED INTO THE GROUND ALONG WITH THE PATH. THIS MEANS THAT THE ONLY WALLS VIEWABLE ARE THE ONES THAT CREATE THE EDGES OF THE PATH. THE SECOND DECISION TO LOWER THE PATH CAME FROM THE IDEA THAT THE SEQUENCE OF SPACES ALONG THE PATH WOULD BE SPACES TO REST AND RELAX. THE LOWERING OF THE PATH TAKES A PERSON AWAY FROM THE CITY NOISES AND VIEWS. BY LOWERING PAT AND THEREFORE LOWERING PROGRAM, THIS ALSO ALLOWED FOR OTHER SPACES TO FORM ABOVE THE PROGRAM. THESE HAVE BECOME COMMUNAL GARDENS, AND ALSO CREATE A LAYERED QUALITY TO THE PATH. OVERALL, THIS DESIGN IS ABOUT THE EXPERIENCE THAT HAPPENS THROUGH THE OSCILLATION OF PATH AND TEH SEQUENCE OF SPACES THAT OCCUR.
