The Lions went 8-3 and were the only second-year transition school to record a winning record. Lindenwood’s offense continued its high-scoring ways despite the tougher competition, and having a new quarterback and nearly a completely new offensive line. The Lions averaged over 40 points and 367.9 total yards a game. In 2010, the Lions went 9-2 overall in their final season of NAIA play, and finished second in the HAAC with a 9-1 mark. Lindenwood advanced to the NAIA Playoffs for the fourth straight season and fifth overall appearance in Ross’ tenure. The Lions had one of the best offenses in the entire country. Lindenwood hosted playoff games in the first and second rounds and then traveled to Helena, Montana, where they faced Carroll College. The Lions would beat the Saints and move onto the national championship against defending champions, Sioux Falls. Sioux Falls upended the Lions 25-22. For the second straight season in 2009 the Lions had one of the most prolific offenses in the country. The Lions averaged over 53 points a game which was tops in the country and broke the school record for points scored with 744. Lindenwood finished ranked second in the country when the final polls came out, which was the highest ranking the school has ever accomplished. Off. Coordinator/ Asst. Head Coach Craig Schuler Craig Schuler is entering his ninth season in 2012 with the Lindenwood football program. He has been on Patrick Ross’ staff since the first day of the Ross era. Schuler came to Lindenwood in 2004, and has been a major part of the program’s turnaround. In 2012, he will serve as the offensive coordinator and running backs coach, as well as being the team’s recruiting coordinator and assistant head coach. This season will be Schuler’s 24th coaching football. In that time, he has won eight conference championship rings, including three as a member of the Lindenwood staff, and coached in 18 NAIA national playoff games. Last season, Schuler helped Lindenwood go 8-3 during its transition season from the NAIA to NCAA Division II level. Over the past three seasons as the offensive coordinator, Schuler has led a Lindenwood offense that has been one of the highest scoring teams in the country at any level. The Lions’ offense has averaged 49.6 points per game over the past 36 games, and has broken numerous national and school records along the way. The 2009 Lions averaged over 53 points per contest, and set a school record in points scored with 744. That year also saw the Lions’ offense rack up the awards, with freshman tailback Denodus O’Bryant being named the MVP of the league. In 2010, Schuler worked with another record-setting offensive unit, one which racked up 8.9 yards per play and 551 yards per game. The Lions continued their remarkable three-year run on offense in 2011, averaging 40.3 points per game against one of the toughest schedules faced by any Division II team in the nation. The Lions scored 60 touchdowns in 2011, giving them 140 trips to the end zone in their last 22 games. Since Schuler arrived at Lindenwood, the Lions have posted a record of 74-22, won three HAAC championships, and advanced to the NAIA Football Championship Series five times. Prior stops on the coaching trail for Schuler include 11 years at Benedictine (Kan.) and two at Avila (Mo.). He has served as a coordinator on both sides of the ball while coaching in the HAAC, and was a high school head coach in the Southern California Division I ranks. Schuler and his wife, Alison, have two daughters, Nikki and Katie.

today's game lindenwood lions vs. missouri southern lions october 27, 2012 The inaugural Battle of the Lions will take place here at Hunter Stadium this afternoon when Lindenwood takes on Missouri Southern in the MIAA Television Game of the Week. The two teams enter the contest with identical records and the victorious squad will walk away with a winning season under its belt. The ground game will be the main factor in deciding which team emerges with a win. Missouri Southern is averaging 267.0 rushing yards a game, which ranks 10th in NCAA Division II. It is running the ball on 83 percent of its plays this season. While Lindenwood is normally more balanced offensively, its quarterback situation caused a different strategy last week. With true freshman Dillon Miller starting his first game last week, Lindenwood ran the ball 43 times for 265 yards. Defensively, Missouri Southern is first in the MIAA in rushing defense by allowing 118.4 yards a game, compared to Lindenwood who is eighth by allowing 150.1 yards a game. Both teams are giving up just 3.7 yards a carry. While getting a victory here this afternoon is priority number one, second on the checklist is celebrating the careers of 22 seniors who will be playing their final game at Hunter Stadium. Among those 22 are four players who will go down as some of the most memorable players in Lindenwood history. Two of the seniors have made a major impact since their very first game as redshirt freshmen in 2009. In that game, a 63-6 win over Evangel, Denodus O’Bryant rushed for 126 yards and two touchdowns, and Cody Fogle was the team’s leading tackler with eight stops. Ever since then, the two have continued to put up big statistics for the Lions. O’Bryant is the most explosive offensive player in Lindenwood history. Over the last four years, he is averaging 7.3 yards per rush, 16.2 yards per reception, and 32.3 yards per kickoff return. He is averaging a touchdown nearly once every eight times that he touches the football. O’Bryant is the school’s all-time leader in touchdowns with 56 and he has scored a touchdown in a remarkable 32 of 38 games that he has appeared in. He has scored 35 rushing touchdowns, 12 receiving touchdowns, and nine special teams scores. Among the numerous other records that O’Bryant holds includes career rushing yards, career all-purpose yards, and career points. O’Bryant, a two-time NAIA All-American and two-time HAAC Player of the Year, has many memorable games, but one of his biggest came in the 2009 NAIA semifinals versus Carroll. In one of the biggest wins in school history, O’Bryant had 255 all-purpose yards, including 157 rushing yards, and three touchdowns. Fogle has been a starter in Lindenwood’s lineup since day one of his career and has been one of Lindenwood’s leading tacklers the

last four seasons. He enters play today with 234 tackles, with 143 of those tackles being solo tackles. Fogle has also had a hand in eight turnovers, with four interceptions and four fumble recoveries. He has recorded 11.5 tackles for loss and 12 pass breakups from his safety position. Fogle, a two-time all-HAAC selection, was among the team’s leaders with seven tackles during the 2009 national championship game. Two of his other big tackles came last year during the team’s transition to the NCAA. In wins over Texas A&M-Kingsville and Azusa Pacific, he made key tackles late in the game which set up the game-winning plays for Lindenwood. While O’Bryant and Fogle contributed on the field from the very start, two other seniors had to work their way up the depth chart and eventually became the best at their respective positions. Wide receiver Andrew Helmick had just 31 receptions his first two years as a Lion, but broke through last year with one of the best seasons in school history. He caught 56 receptions for 901 yards and 12 touchdowns, and was named the team’s Offensive Player of the Year. Helmick’s big kickoff return and acrobatic catch accounted for 72 yards during Lindenwood’s game-winning drive against Northern Colorado. This season, Helmick is surpassing last year’s production. He already has 39 catches for 691 yards and six touchdowns. He also had one rushing touchdown against Glenville State which won the game for Lindenwood. Helmick has set Lindenwood’s career receiving marks with 2,147 yards and 24 touchdowns. He needs just 10 catches to reach the school’s reception mark of 136. Defensive lineman Malach Radigan has been the emotional leader for Lindenwood over the last two years after a long journey into the starting lineup. He was a backup in 2009 and appeared in eight games. The next season, he was slated to start but an injury cut his season down to just four games. Radigan made the wait worthwhile in 2011 as he was named the team’s Most Valuable Defensive Big Man. He recorded 27 tackles that season, including 4.0 for losses. This season, he has been even more of a force with 44 tackles, 9.0 tackles for loss, 3.0 sacks, and two forced fumbles. One of the best games of his career came against Glenville State when he recorded two sacks in the final five minutes to spark the team’s fourth-quarter comeback. For his career, Radigan has 91 tackles, 16.5 tackles for loss, and 4.5 sacks. He has also recorded an interception and two forced fumbles. The Class of 2012 will take the field today in hopes of finishing with a 21-4 reign at Hunter Stadium over the past four seasons, and leave one more positive note on a great legacy.

WOMen’s Basketball Ready For New Season The 2012-2013 Lindenwood University women’s basketball program is preparing for its inaugural campaign as a provisional NCAA Division II member with one thing in mind. They deserve to be there. The Lady Lions cannot compete in NCAA postseason play due to this last year of provisional status, but Head Coach Tony Francis looks to continue building the program and make their mark for the future. “We’re going to work hard every day and we’re going to get better every day,” said Francis. “We are going to use this season as a building block to become fully aware of the physical competitiveness the NCAA and MIAA offer on a nightly basis. We are going to be fully prepared when this season is over.” Lindenwood enters this season as one of four new members in the MIAA, arguably the top conference in the nation for Division II women’s basketball. In the last eight seasons, the MIAA has produced two National Champions in Emporia State in 2010 and Washburn in 2005, along with a Final Four appearance and an Elite Eight appearance in the last two seasons. “We know that we’re going to have to work hard,” said Francis. “We’re going to have to take punches, and we’re going to have to earn our stripes…we’re going to have to earn the respect from every team in this conference. The young ladies must have the attitude they are not going to be a pushover.” The Lady Lions return two seniors, four juniors, and three sophomores while

welcoming in four freshmen. Three of the four top scores are returning to the Lindenwood starting lineup. The team will look for leadership in senior Sarah Schneiders, and juniors Caroline Bourlioux and Marissa Lehnig. Schneiders, who started in all but two contests last year, was second on the team in points per game with 12.0. She held a .488 field goal percentage and was second on the team averaging just over five rebounds per game. Bourlioux started in every game for the Lady Lions last season, and was third in points per game with 11.6 a game, and first with 6.3 rebounds per contest. This season, Bourlioux will be one of the primary threats in the paint for the Lady Lions. Lehnig led the squad last season with just over 12 points per contest. She started in 23 of the team’s 27 contests and was second on the team with 41 steals. The Lady Lions welcome a strong group of talented freshmen to this year’s program, with two state champions and many Player of the Year selections under their belt. Jumping into the MIAA will be a challenge, a challenge that the staff and players are ready to face. “We’ve got to embrace this challenge,” said Francis. “We want to embrace it and use it to make us better. We want to wrap our arms around it and say hey, let’s go.”

Around Campus The men’s soccer team (10-2-3, 7-02 MIAA) is on the brink of becoming the school’s first MIAA champion. The Lions have won their last three games and continue to be the hottest team on campus. Last week, Lindenwood beat Truman 3-2 and Upper Iowa 1-0. The Lions defense is still one of the best in the country. Entering last week Lindenwood had a goals against average of 0.71. If the Lions were able to be ranked in the statistical leaders their GAA would be 15th in the country. Fermin Hughes has compiled seven shutouts on the season and given up just 11 goals in 5 games. Andre Hayne and Azeem Razwan lead the team in goals with four each. Lindenwood has qualified for the MIAA postseason tournament and will participate in

Olathe, Kan. on Nov. 1-3. The women’s soccer team (5-8-1, 1-8-0 MIAA) won its first MIAA game last weekend against Fort Hays State. The Lady Lions beat the Tigers 2-1 on Senior Day at Hunter Stadium. Lindenwood still has three games and will be looking to add its win total. For the second straight season, Courtney Bresnahan and Bailey Cody are leading the team in goals. Bresnahan has scored nine goals and Cody has seven. The field hockey team has had one of the best turnarounds of any program on campus. Last season, the Lady Lions had a record of 2-13 and through last weekend the team is 6-6. Lindenwood is coming off a 3-1 over Bellarmine on Senior Day. Kristi O’Connor leads the team in goals and assists with 10 and six, respectively.

Harlen C. Hunter Stadium

Hunter Stadium is one of the busiest places on campus throughout the year. It is the home for Lindenwood football, men’s and women’s soccer, field hockey, and both men’s and women’s lacrosse programs. The stadium was built in 1976 by the St. Louis football Cardinals as a place to hold their training camp. In 1988, the stadium was renovated and a new artificial turf was installed. Eleven years later in 1999, Hunter Stadium debuted a new turf called Astro Play. After the 2004 season, Hunter Stadium underwent its biggest renovation. The stadium was completely renovated, including end zone seating and a brand new two-story press box. In 2009, the playing surface at the facility was replaced with Enviroturf. The facility has hosted NAIA football playoff games in 2004, 2008, 2009, and 2010, and the NAIA Women’s Soccer National Championships in 2001 and 2002. The last three seasons the St. Louis Rams held training camp scrimmages at Hunter Stadium. All three games drew over 5,000 specators. During the NFL Lockout in 2011, several St. Louis Rams players chose Lindenwood for offseason training. The stadium is named after Dr. Harlen C. Hunter, who founded the St. Louis Orthopedic Sports Medicine Clinic in Chesterfield in 1979, the first clinic of its kind in the St. Louis area. Hunter was the key to the upgrades of the playing surface in 1988.

The New Home of Lindenwood Athletics The Lindenwood University Student-Athlete Center is a 43,450-square-foot athletic building with an academic support center, new locker rooms for football and other Hunter Stadium sports, coaches’ offices, and a Hall of Fame Room. The building opens in early September. The ground floor of the building will house home and visitor locker rooms and athletic training facilities. The nearly 3,000-square-foot academic success center is on the second floor, along with locker rooms for men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s lacrosse, and field hockey. The third floor overlooks the bleachers and the scoreboard, and consists of coaches’ offices, a Hall of Fame Room, and meeting rooms.

ABOUT LINDENWOOD With her husband, Major George Sibley, pioneer educator Mary Sibley founded Lindenwood as a school for young women in 1827. Lindenwood was committed to combining professional issues with academic pursuits, the social with the intellectual, and the spiritual with the physical. In short, Mary Sibley brought holistic higher education to the American frontier. Lindenwood became a Presbyterian college in 1853 and still maintains a historical relationship with the Presbyterian Church. In 1918, Lindenwood became a four-year college, and in 1969, Lindenwood attempted to strengthen its financial base by becoming co-ed. The school altered its name in 1974. The Lindenwood Colleges referred to the school’s individual operations for men and women and also to its accelerated evening program, The Lindenwood College for Individualized Education, and its graduate programs. During the ‘70s and ‘80s, the school struggled with a changing economy and accumulated substantial indebtedness. Enrollments began to decline, and by the spring of 1989, the number of day

students had dropped below 1,000. As well, institutional change during those decades had led to some loss of clarity of mission. In view of these fiscal and cultural challenges, the Board of Directors resolved to “refound” the school by returning to the fundamental precepts of individualized, holistic, values-oriented higher education that combines the practical with the academic. A president experienced in financial management and organizational revitalization was hired to lead the whole Lindenwood community in its collective renewal initiative. The result was a period of rapid growth and innovation that enabled the College to become the higher-education leader that it is today. At the height of its revival, Lindenwood College became Lindenwood University in 1997. Enrollment burgeoned, and new construction arrived in late 1997 with the Hyland Performance Arena. By 1998-99, the annual enrollment approached 9,500, the faculty was growing, and the school balanced its budgets and increased revenues. In 2000, Lindenwood dedicated the first of eight new residence halls to be constructed over the next decade—the first such construction in more than 30 years. In 2002, Lindenwood built the beautiful new Spellmann Campus Center. The 136,000-square-foot J. Scheidegger Center for the Arts opened in 2008. The growth has not slowed. Additional construction has included expansion and renovation of Harmon Hall, now the home of the Lindenwood University School of Business and Entrepreneurship, and the 120,000-square-foot Evans Commons opened to great fanfare in 2011. A new athletics building is being added in 2012 adjacent to Harlen Hunter Stadium, corresponding with Lindenwood’s transition to the NCAA, Division II. Academically, Lindenwood has grown as well with extension of its longstanding general accreditation, the additional of numerous specialized accreditations for individual programs, and the addition of a number of degree programs, including the school’s first doctoral degrees in the School of Education. Mary Sibley ran a tightly managed school with a resourceful spirit and a clear purpose. She would have been proud of today’s Lindenwood.
