The American Salvage Association Launches its First Hybrid AGM with the Return of In-Person Events

The American Salvage Association (ASA) hosted its first ever hybrid Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Thursday, December 2nd, which ran concurrently with the International Workboat Show in New Orleans. The ASA hosted over 60 members and guests, including an additional 30 attendees who were able to join virtually online.

“We are especially grateful to the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) and Rear Admiral Richard Timme, Commander of the Eighth Coast Guard District, for attending this year’s AGM and speaking to our membership,” said Lindsay Malen-Habib, Immediate Past President of the ASA. “He provided a fantastic overview of Coast Guard activities while our members were provided an opportunity to pick his brain candidly, in true ‘quality partnership’ form,” Malen-Habib continued. During the meeting, ASA leadership also detailed new plans to work more closely with the USCG, including an agreement to host four ASA Salvage Training Courses in 2022. ASA affiliate organizations also presented at the AGM, including Phil Newsum, Executive Director of ADCI, who presented on the state of the Association of Diving Contractors International (ADCI) organization. The ASA hopes to resume its joint South American Conference with ADCI in 2022. The Founder and Executive Director of the North American Marine Environment Protection Association (NAMEPA), Carleen Lyden-Walker, presented on her organization’s 2021 activities and achievements while also shining an important light on NAMEPA’s CSR/ESG Maritime Sustainability Program, an initiative available to the maritime industry, which helps companies, organizations, institutions, and individuals identify their existing CSR/ESG practices as well as evaluate what is yet to be accomplished in their journey towards sustainability. Aaron Smith, President and CEO of the Offshore Marine Service Association (OMSA) offered a detailed update on Merchant Mariner Credentialing concerns, and the work they have done together
