BRINAMINA SINGAPORE HOTEL

Project Timeline: 2 Months Partner(s): M. Reyes, T. Nguyen Location: Singapore Nominated for Design Excellence Award

Inspired by the four nations that have intersected to create the unique melting pot of Singapore: Britain, Malaysia, China and India. Structural detailing of traditional costume provides a glimpse into their lifestyles, while the features and elements become tangible manifestations of their culture. These provide the jumping off point and unique foundation from which Singapore can create its own history. Brinamina welcomes all travelers, particularly catering to the frequent business traveler who seeks to experience the local culture but has limited time. The hotel aims to provide a taste of Singapore by bringing the culture to the client and create an environment that not only acts as a venue for meetings or post-work gatherings but also gives travelers an ethereal escape from a hectic schedule.

CUT CHEMIST BAR & BARBER SHOPPE

Project Timeline: 1 Month Location: Beijing International Airport Enter Cut Chemist and be enveloped in the bold strength of its geometric folds and mysterious darkness, which is puncuated only by flashes of the quintessential and iconic Lamborghini yellow. Drawing from the daring design of the company’s Sesto Elemento, Cut Chemist aims to energize and revitalize its clientele. Utilizing boldfaced masculine design elements, informative technology systems and delivering clean cuts and an invigorating drink, clients leave feeling ready to take charge and perform at their peak. This project was assigned to be a barber shop with an optional secondary function inspired by a car and located in an international airport of choice, I chose to add an alcohol bar component and take inspiration from the ultra-masculine Lamborghini Sesto Elemento and the Beijing International Airport for its striking similarities to the car. The bar was specifically chosen based on the target demographic of male business travelers to help them relax after or before a stressful day or flight. Within this front area is the retail display of hygene, hair and shaving kits to provide necessities that may have been forgotten in the packing process. The barber shoppe is located in the rear not only to provide privacy for clients but also create a necessary separation between the two functions of the space.

CHEVRON SKYBOX SPORTS STADIUM CORPORATE SKYBOX & MASTER SUITE

Project Timeline: 1 Month Partner: A. Price An industrial grit pays homage to the history and perseverance of the Chevron Corporation. The iconic forms of the oil industry are present; oil pumps slowly bowb their heads searching faithfully for the black gold that fuels the lives of their human keepers. Oil brings luxury; this is highlighted in the technological edge that is present. Light embodies the way forward, the glow of innovation accents the space developing a pervasive sense of environmental futurism. Chevron is a company with a long and storied history as well as a bright future. The goal was to pay homage to this by incorporating traditional design features, such as a chevron-patterned hard wood floor, darker upholserty and industrial elements, as well as contemporary ones, such as a graphic bar back with backlit agate. A second floor master suite, enables notable guests to take a rest or host a private party.

510 RESTAURANT & BAR CALIFORNIA-INSPIRED ORGANIC EATERY

Project Timeline: 1 Month Location: Mill Avenue, Tempe, Arizona Possibility stires in the crisp breeze of a morning, the precursor to a warm spring day. Sunshine peeks through dark green leaves like diamonds sparkling against the cool shade of the trees. Their shadows fall on the ground like abstractions of their original shape. Yards of flame-red poppies accent their beds of dew-covered grass. Soft golden light filters through canvas awnings as birds fly overhead, fluidly parting and converging in their swirling, synchronized dance. 510 Restaurant & Bar takes inspiration from Northern California with its crisp, dew and sun-kissed mornings, vibrant poppies and reknowned redwood forests. Large swaths of glittering pendants flow through the space like a flock of birds in the sky, while reclaimed redwood grounds the space and gives it a distinctly earthly feeling. The variety of seating options enables patrons to choose between the casual bar and lounge areas or the more formal yet unpretentious main dining area. There guests have the option to have more privacy in booths or a more communal eating experience at tables that can be linked together or separated as desired. The backdrop for the space is a softly lit white wall that curves along the interior like the foggy skies of the Bay Area.

THE ROCK HISTORIC ROCK SPRINGS CAFE

Project Timeline: 1.5 Months Partner: E. Wiemann Location: Rock Springs Cafe, Black Canyon City, Arizona As animals and humans travel across the land, they leave their mark with every step they take or mile they drive. Hooves, paws, feet, stagecoach wheels and automobile tires leave tracks that intersect and overlap over time. With these tracks, every being leaves behind a piece of themselves and a piece of their story. Rather than just a pit stop on a road trip, the goal is to have Rock Springs become a travel destination not only to enjoy world-famous pie, the desert nature of Arizona, or the history of Black Canyon City but also as the place to leave your own mark or impression to say I have been here. The main goal of this project was to preserve as much of the original late-19th century structure as possible while renovating and updating the rest of the building that had been added on over the years. In the souvenier shop, vintage travel chests serve as both displays and product storage. Wood slats reminiscent of wheel track marks were brought up the walls to block the harsh desert sun and extruded to create shelving. In addition to the design program, we created a new logo for Rock Springs to give the company an updated, lasting and iconic logo.

LIGHTS

CENTER FOR INTERNAL WELLNESS

Project Timeline: 4 Months Partners: E. Korn, L. Serrano, M. Torrence, J. Viher Location: Gilbert, Arizona Light reveals what is otherwise blurred beneath shadows yet it is only in darkness that light can be shed in its full strength. As darkness is dispelled by light, so too ignorance is dispelled by knowledge. It is the collective effort of many minute specs of matter that guides the most brilliant beam of light through the obscure and into clarity. LIGHTS Center for Internal Wellness was created with the intention of providing Arizonans with premium preventative and oncology treatment of colorectal cancer as it is one of the most common cancers in the state but severely lacks in specialized facilities. The treatment side is coupled with an educational aspect in order to create awareness and disseminate the fear that often comes with this type of cancer and its preventative procedures. The design of the space is meant to emphasize this by capitalizing on Arizona’s abundant sunshine and creating varying lighting features in order to give the space a feeling of lightness and clarity. Another of the overarching goals was to minimalise the sterile feel that is commonly found in healthcare facilities and instead create a warm, hospitality-like environment. This was accomplished mainly through the FF&E with the use of wood, attractive bariatric furniture and upholstery, and saturated colours.

Born and raised in Oakland, California, just across the bay from San Francisco, design was a part of my life even from a young age. I was exposed to the profession of architecture by visiting my father’s work and watching him work on plans at home as he renovated multiple properties. I eventually followed in his footsteps as I entered university, beginning my journey towards a career in interior design. My design sense has also been honed as a result of my international travels. Having been to several countries from Australia to France to Ecuador, I have had the opportunity to see different architecural and design styles in person. It’s my understanding of these nuances that aides me in the design process as I enjoy researching and utilizing the ideas and details that make a location, company, or brand unique. I believe good design, whether it be 2d or 3d, is that which addresses every sense of the body. Good design makes you want to touch and interact with it and engages your sight through its complexity or even because of its simplicity. It could have a soundtrack that reflects the energetic frequency of the space or piece, as well as a scent and even taste as we imagine a design being cool, metallic, warm, woody, fresh or sparkling. Possibly above all I believe good design stirs an inexplicable sensation physically, mentally and emotionally, engaging our past experiences and emotions to inform our subconscious experience of the design and as a result creating a feeling of excitement. -Graduated May 2013 with a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design from Arizona State University. I am currently seeking a job with an architecture and/or interior design firm that will enable me to take on responsibilities, get involved in all phases of the design process and a provide me with a unique and challenging but rewarding experience. Through university course work, I have been introduced to: . Residential, hospitality, healthcare and retail design . Architecture, art and interior design history . Acoustics and lighting . Interior codes . Construction documents/methods . Facilities management . Professional practice
