CLASS SIZE At Morgan State, you’ll learn from faculty who are leaders and active researchers in their fields. Here in the School of Social Work, for example, Dean Anna McPhatter is nationally recognized for her work in the areas of leadership, cultural competence, and children, youth and families. Similarly, Associate Dean Halaevalu Vakalahi is a Hartford Faculty Scholar, Fulbright Senior Scholar, and a Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) Minority Fellow. Recently, Dr. McPhatter, Dr. Vakalahi and Dr. Wells-Wilbon served as co-editors of a new textbook, Social Work Practice with African Americans in Urban Environments, published in 2015.

Learn about the interconnectedness of addiction and behavioral health in urban environments and its impact on all aspects of psychosocial functioning. Study the process of aging and the unique dynamics facing elderly persons in urban environments.
PUBLIC HEALTH SOCIAL WORK
Learn about the multiplicity of public health issues in urban environments, such as interpersonal violence, chronic illnesses, HIV/AIDS, and substance abuse.
Study strategies for working with students in urban based school settings and ways to assist educational teams in enhancing the learning process. Learn strength-based theories and interventions to effectively and efficiently work with children, youth, and families in urban communities.
