DREAM GREEN DIY Meet Carrie
Chalkboard Log Slice Placecards Although the tradition of harvest dining has been around for centuries, your dining room decor doesn’t have to feel stuck in the past. Set the stage for a fall-time feast with your own special touches — a fresh color scheme, unexpected pops of metallic accents or even logslice place cards.
Step 1. Dream Green DIY was founded by Carrie in March 2011, and is the personification of her three main passions: (1)DIY, (2)Design, (3) Life. Here, you’ll find her chatting about recent design trends, ways to transform everyday objects into beautiful showstoppers and about how to juggle life as a wife, creative entrepreneur and homeowner. Armed with a hammer, a couple of cordless screwdrivers, an impressive collection of new, used and hand-me-down hardware, Carrie is tackling home projects with gusto (and on a budget to boot).
Step 3.
Step 2. Use a small foam paintbrush to paint on two to three coats of chalkboard paint using the halfmoon silhouette of your wood slice as a guide. Use masking tape to achieve nice, crisp edges.
4 the crafty playbook
You’ll need a log that is roughly 4 to 5 inches in diameter and cut in a clean half-moon shape. Use a bandsaw or hacksaw to cut it into slices, each about 1 inch thick. The thicker your slice, the easier it will be to leave it standing on its own.

Allow the chalkboard paint to dry overnight to ensure a nice solid surface, and then use a wipeable chalkboard marker to draw out your guests’ names.
