About me:
My name is Morin Taodrous and I am a sophmore student studying Architecture at the College of Environmental Design at UC Berkeley. My love for Architecture stems from its power in addressing societal and environemntal issues. Throughout my studies, I have been fortunate enough to learn about complex design outlooks, the history of architecture of different countries and cultures, and its role in shaping our built environment.
I am really interested in sustainable design, affordable housing, and sensory design. Outside the classroom, I actively immerse myself in Architecture related actvities with the American Institue of Architceture Students club (AIAS) and Habitat for Humanity.
This portfolio is a reflection of my passion for design as a dedicated aspiring architect, portrayed through a selection of academic and personal work.
I THE CUBE:
Hand-drafted multiple small cubes. Cuts and voids were taken out of the cube to create different new forms.
Built 8 cubes out of Bristol paper and put them together to create a new bigger cube. Built physical model and hand-drafted oblique drawing of the new form.
Stairs, columns, and extra voids were instroduced to the cube to create a more complex form.
The voids made more public and private spaces in the massing, all connected with stairs to keep a constant flow all around the cube and a sense of continuity. The columns were used for structural support and the colors were used to accentuate the circulation around the massing, creating a circle from plan view.

II BERKELEY HOUSING:
Redesigned two motelstyle residential buildings (1403 and 1405 Carleton St, Berkeley, CA)
The two buildings originally lack windows and natural light and air ventilation. Started out by visiting the cite and studying the surrounding. I then took measurements of the buildings and made site plan drawings with my new massing to scale.
Second iteration became more complex, included more windows and hallways for air and light
III ROOM DESIGN:
Drew a plan for a room, bathroom and a balcony, then designed a 3D model for it.
IV PERSONAL PROJECTS:
1. UC Berkeley CED Chair Competition entry: The Butterfly Bench:
The Butterfly Bench is a sculptural and functional statement piece that creates space for collaboration and learning within Bauer-Wurster Hall’s library at UC Berkeley.
The seven-foot long bench invites up to eight people to sit comfortably. With access from multiple sides and space for many, it invites students in for collaborative work and studying.
Started out by hand-drawing the house then 3D modelled it.
