The Streets of Port Elizabeth By Morita Botha
Growing up in a small town, street photography is not something that came to mind when I was younger. Now currently living in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape I have a new perspective of our streets and the beautiful people who can tell a story through only one photograph. Street photography shows the richness of the street and tells us the truth even though we can still make our own assumptions when looking at the photographs. My aim is to try and bring humor into the photographs by waiting for the right moment. Timing and patience is everything and this will determine if you get that great shot or not. Street photography is very pleasing to me as a photographer, standing on the other side of the lens and capturing and witnessing what is happening in that exact moment and then being able to look back and say “I was there” is an incredible feeling.
Street Photography is more than just a way of taking photos, it’s the realest way of taking photos.

I was born in 1992 and raised in a small town on the North Coast called Richards Bay, Kwazulu Natal. I lived and went to school in Richards Bay for most of my life. I then transferred over to a high school in Durban, Port Natal. There I was exposed to greater things like different cultures and a bigger social life. Moving to Durban changed my perspective over a lot of things in life. After matriculating in 2010 I was not sure what I wanted to study, I then decided to start working. By the end of 2012 I decided to apply for some courses at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University. In 2014 I got accepted to study Introductory Course (Arts and Culture) at Nmmu. I finished my first year and then chose to further my studies in Photography in 2015. I am currently a 3rd year photography student and will be completing my Diploma this year. During my 2nd year of photography I started to develop my photography skills, techniques and field of interest. The area of photography I am specializing in now is more commercial/ advertising sports photos or sport portraits. I am more interested in the commercial and advertising area and I have a big passion for sport so my aim is to combine these two.
