So I've had rny Oxford, "Nuff" for around three years and after changing the brake rnaster and slave cylinders, a reconditioned engine, sorne rninor bodywork and waxoyling together with regular servicing, we've becorne very happy with each other. Dad had two Oxfords and I learnt to drive in an A60 so I can rernerrrber the heady snell of creased leather, old rubber, the occasional whiff of engine oil, the tick of the fuel pump and farniliar gearbox whine very well. SundayJulyITth 2011sawthe 26th Trim Vintageand Vetean Car Show held on the outskirtsof this well known County Meath town. The backdrop to the show field is the site of the ruins of the largest Anglo-Norman castle irr lreland, built in 1172, and made famous in the 1995 film "Bmveheat" where it was used to portray Edinburgh casde in the l3th century, As with my previous visits to both the Mosney and Terenure shows, both ofwhich were held within the prevrous few weels, the Farina contingent seemed to once again mainly comprise a small number of low mileage Wolseley 16,/60s- maybe becauseFrederick Wolseley himself was an Irish native? To balance things slighdy, there was one late model Austin A60 there, but no Morris, Rjley or MG variants, nor any six cylinder cars. A club member from the Belfast area brought along his very smart looking J reg 16,/60, its condition being a crcdit to its low mileage and dedicated o$ner. Under vehicle import rules for the Republic of lreland, until recendy it was possible to bring in classicvehicles and have them reregistercd for the modest sum of 50 Euros. For some unknown reason they are classified along with commercials, and the import duty on those has now increasedto 200, thus malqng it now four times as epensive to re-reglster a classic car here. It is to be hoped that sensewill prevail and that the 50 fee will be re-introduced for vehicles over 30 years old, as previously was the case. It is unde$tood that representations have been made by various.vintage clubs and medla here concerning this situtation. Hopefully more positive news on this matter will be forthcoming in the not too dista.nt future, Some of our Irish members ate members of the club's forum _ maybe more of you reading this will join up. There is a section specially for Irish based members, so lets see more of you online helping to keep Farinas on the roads of lreland. Shane Conway

No pub meetiirgsto report on asi-ur area hibernareslor winterl There is however a local meet that does carry on through the winter and some of our members have been to this meet. It's held on the third Thursday of every month and is based at the George Hotel in Dorchester on Thames. I tumed up at their November meeting in my Odord. Only an MG kept the Oxford company as many people tum up at winter meets in modern cars citing dark wet evenings as a reasonfor keepingtheir classicssafelyindoors. I can empathisewith this - our ca.rscan be a pain in winter with their poor headlights etc but hat stops me dead in my tracls is sa]ted roads. I then went to the December meeting which was a Chdstmas party and that turned out to be a really good night, especiallyas I won their classiccar quiz too. This meet isn't marque specificso like our summer pub meets, you'Il find a real mix of classictransport. The future of our April to Septemberpub meets hasn't been finalised yet - I r1eedto consult other local members to seewhat people want but there is a chance we can rctum to our old haunt at the Six Bells in Warborough as the pub has reopened for business. I doubt whether we would continue meeting on Mondays though as many rural pubs around here seem to close on Monday evenings now I am keen to keep a foot in the door ofthe Dorchester meet and I will get more involved here though I appreciateThursday evening is not ideal for some ofour

We have finally settled dn a new venue for our meeiings since the pub we used to meet at (for over 30 years) has become generally closed on a Monday night. The new venue is the Olde House at Chesterfield,it's is a pub, restaurant and hotel just a short distance from our previous meeting place. It has a large car park and it looks promising as a long-term venue. There are tables and chai$ outside next to the car park, and I'm looking lorward to some warrn summer evenings with a good turnout of club cars on display. The address is the Olde House, Loundsley Green Road, Chesterfield,S40 4RN. We are meeting on the 2nd Monday of each month, OurJanuary and February meetings were held at the Olde House, they were well attended and the new place seemedto be popular with everyone. 20ll saw conl{rued Club activity south ofthe Thames. Our third Monday of the month meetings were well attended, in part because we meet at an excellent pub that does good food to everyoneis taste. A big thank you to all the Surrey Members who make being part of this Club such a pleasure. It was good to welcome some new faces such as Gmham Carter (Oxford M) and Terry Bunce to our meetings and each month generally had new and interesting cars show up. Terry has owned his 1971 Oxford for many years, and we found that the reg. no. is very close to mine - possibly on the production line together! Neil Peters ar:rived with a very nice Wolseley 6/l l0 Mk2 four speed manual which he intends to cherish. We were troubled by an Alfa Romeo owners club aranging to meet on the same night as us (they weren't to know), but they moved their meeting to a different night after our si-x cylinder gathering, which once agarn rammed the car park. Some wag was heard to remark they didn't want their Wesry to catch rust ftom the Alfasl The Star put on an excellent BBQ and everyone had a good time despite the drizzle. Law of averages says it will be fine thisJune! John Gallon has worhed hard on his A60 Countr),rnan and was one of the Surrey Membels to malrc it to the National Rally. I for one enjoyed my early moming trip to Norfolk stopping at Grimes Graves ancient flint mines, then back roads all the way to the Nor{olk coast. I even bought new tyres for the occasion. Thanks arc due to Stewart Lee and Shovel for organizing the Surrey Rally at Cranleigh in August (see report elsewhere). We will be there again this year, although some regulars will be attending another special event that day - the Wedding of our very own Terry Culley who is tying the knot with Angela. Congratulations Ter'4'. Our Chistmas Dinner at the Star was attended by 26 Members and deir families, with specia-lmention to Steve Simmons and Jeremy Sampson all the way from East Sussex. The food was delicious and a good time had by all.

New Area meeting at The Elm Tree, Hightown near Ringwood Hants BH24 3DY lor Hants and Donet. All welcome, this is a joint meet with the Rover 75lZT owners club who are keen for a monthly meet around here. This will normally be on a Thursday night starting from 7 30pm, this is also curry night at the pub! I'll try to put a notice on our table for those who dont know me!

GRAND HENHAM STEAM RAL September zott

I had been lookingforward to Henhamfor quite a while as it would be the first time I'd towed my folding caravanwith "Wooley".Also, lwas hoping to see the 16/60 lsold there at the 2010 Rally, but that was not to be. I took full advantage oJ the Exhibitorsfree camping, and was on site for the full 5 days from 9.30am Thursday to 9.30am Monday. lt was '153miles from my home in Kent to Henham, and took about 3 & halt hours each way, an average of 44mph, so I was happy with

"Wooley's" performance. l think the mpg was around 26127.but I lost a receiptand calculatedit from memory Thursday & Friday were spent watching the show take shape, but after a nice fry-up on Saturday,I leatheredthe car ofi and drove overto the display area, where I was positioned next to an Austin 1100with 2 SingerGazelleson the other side. l'm afraid l didn t speak to the owners. as I went off to find any bargajns around the stalls. There were some good displays in the arena too, and I was particularly impressed by the Kite Flyers. Unfodunately, the pictures were lost from my trusty Nokia phone. Later, I was persuaded to drive round lhe arena, whrch was quite amusing owing to the monotone voice of the announcer. Sunday dawned brght and clear, and in the display area I was placed next to a 1972 Austin 1800, Club Member Colin Mace with his 1966 Wolselev 6/110.and SharonCorbinwith her 1962 Austin Cambridge 460. Not bad ior an "accidental"line-up. Other COOCtype cars I saw were 2 Oxfords, a 1962 belongingto W Spooner of Halesworth and the 1969 model of Geoff Warman.Furtheronwerea 1974Morris1800and a 1964 VDP Princess,a car I would love to own, but space and money rule it out. In the Vintage Car section were various other Wolseleys, and a smartlookingblack'1955A50 Cambridge. I find Henham to be a very friendly weekend show, with plenty to see and do. lf you're staying overnight, there'sthe Fairgroundand a Beer Tent with lvlusicon both Fridayand Saturdayevenings, great Fish & Chips, and a good selectionof other food available.Atrip to nearbySouthwold makes a nice eveningotf site, with a range of pubs and eateriesthere. lvlaybea future Club Rallyvenue??
