I wrote last time 'as the weather improves and the evenings lengthen... ... ...'. Well the .venings did length.n in facl lhey're going back the other way agam now but the weather did not improve of course and our meets have su{fereda bit for that with lesscars tuming up than last year. Still things can only get better . (and maybe they have by tl, e time this is appearing in pint). We have had our 'regulars' including Graham Coles in an 460 and Bill Stavely in either an A99 or All0 plus a mix of other classics. Two ca$ that really stood out lor me was a very rare Mor.lis Isis estate and a Hillman Hunter in LondonSydney rally. spec. The Hunter was driven to the meet by Alex Burns, father of the late World Rally Champion, Richard Bums On our July meet we even had a Routemasterbus show up - somewhcredry to shelter from the all rain we had that night. It's amazing who tums up at your meets if you throw an open invite out. In addition to the pub meets, we had the Pride of Longbridge event back in April. Ijoined a convoy of approximately 45 cars from the Cowley plant to Longbridge. We were allowed onto the BMW Mini site and were
chesterfl.eLd The poor weather in June and July meant that there weren't many Club CaIs to see at our meetings, but then again in June there weren't many membe$ to sceeithe lnJuly we did manage nine members, which is pretty good for us. We have had local COOC member calJed Kevin join r-rsfor the last fcw meetings. he has an early 4.60 which he has been to quite a few rallies with recently. The car has been known to the club for a while, I collected it with my van & trailer when Peter Dunn bought it some years ago, he did a lot of work on it and got it on the road again, then it Passedto a couple of other people locally, before Kevin boughLit. I'm hoping that rhe August meering night will be warm and sunny, so that we could expect a turn-out of club cars. We have been discussing the idea of atfacting other like-minded lolk (non-COOC members) to our meetings, as numbers are unfortunateiy gradually falling. We may be looking at advertisingin the local paper to see if we can generate some interest from owners of other BMC/BL vehicles in the area who perhapsdon r havearea mectinqsfor t]eir own club, or who might want to come along to our meetings as well as their "own" meetings. Another possibiliry is contacting other BMC/BL clubs to see if they would be interested in advertising an area meeting to coincide with our meetings. Around frfteen years ago our numbe$ were suddenly boosted each month by several members of the Landcrab club joining us. Some becarne good friends and remained regular attendeesfor a long time. It was intercsting to share discuss technical and experiences difercnces/developmentsetc. with people who were running cars with similarities, and liom the BMC,/BL family. I'11let you know how we get on! Happy motoring, Mark Sutclille

My Westy has also seen action in Gerrnany . during May. Bill Stavely and I set out in 2 Westys (an 4110 mk2 & an A99) from Dover and took the ferry to Dunkerque. Bill accompanied me as lar as Antwerp, where we then sepaEted. Bill went on to Pepinsterin east Belgium and I carried on through Holland and into Germany. This was a good trip made even r better by the bullet proof reliability of both cars. I admit ro being a bir nervous abour I t venruring oversea;.in.a, classic car, bur I I provided you've got breakdown insumnce and appropriate spares, all there is to do is to enjoy the drive. I covered just under I,000 miles with the only issue being a hot rear dlum caused by the handbrake not fully releasing itself. Bill's A99 ran a bit hot when subjected ro needless dela)sar the ferry tenninalcoming back home. Both cars ceftainly attracted much attention, more especially when I drove through Holland. Credit to Richard Martin (RM Vehicle Services)who sewiced my Westy prior to the trip. After Germany, I took a Morris Oxford along with Bill Stavely in his A110 and visited the annual 6/80 & MO club rally being held in Moreton in Manh (Gloucs). We were made very welcome, parking alongside Morris Oxford MO's, Morris Sixes, Wolseley 6./80's etc. It's good to see clubs allowing other cars in on their meets, this has to be the way forward and Mark Shepley I hope we are all as equally accommodating.

WvtfordshLre Well so far, this seasonhas been horrendous and as a result my car hasn't been out as much as it should have been, The Ipswich to Felixstowe run was again very good at the beginning of May although the weather did really put quite a dampener on the proceedings somewhat but still an enjoyable day. It was great to seeTony & Sheila Spearman in their recendy restored 15/60, they are soooooooclever and it looks the business. It was good of courseto seeColin Smith as you never know which one he will use bul I loved the Riley he brought and ofcourse George in his 16160.The Enlield Pageant,a week be{icrethe Jubilee Bank holiday was a fantastic weekcnd, I attended on the Friday and Sunday - nice dry weather lor a char,ge, thcre were the usual farina faces so good to catch up with them. Then in June it was the Luton Festival of Transport, the flag rvas llying nice and high and what can I say, well a good turn out (missedsecingLes \'Villiamsbut working was a mrrst for him and Mark Shepleywho I hope is more nobile now), we had a great day and the weather was again very good indeed - now what did make the day was a convoy out of the showground through Luton and Stopsley and onto and along the A505 (the last convoy along there was for Andy Westcoftsfuneral possession) with mysel! colin Mace who now owns Steve'sA55 countryrnan and Paul with his white Moris Oxford traveller plus Robin with his A60 and not forgetting Chds &Jean with their 16160 - a great sight to compliment the day..........thanksto all who managed to attend this FREE entry to exhibitors, it is a truelv a premier event. Our area meetings on the 3.d tuesday are not very well attended, there is usually only about 5 of us dependingwhether our Graham and Malcolm are working or not so we would welcome new faces pleasi. Am now looking forward to the BMC / BL rally and a few others too of course weather
cawoashLre I had a very pleasant night out at the Lancashire area meet recently, as Ausbalian COOC Member Steve Shord and his wife were present, taking the time to meet fellow enthusiastswhile on his trip over here. Steve is pictured on the left with farina Forum Guru Eddre Foster on the dght with the other Lancashire Members. It was gfeat to meet you Steve. As I was last to leave the Member with the blue i6/60 had a flat battery and it's an automatic so could not be push started.I had no jump leads with me so I had to leave him waiting for the AA in the end after getting soaked looking for jump leads in the car park! I hope everything tumed out ahight in the end. Iohn Lakev

My Wolseley 15/60 | think has an reasonably interesting History. I swapped it for a knackeredRover 80 in 1990with a triend in Fulham wno worked on it for a garage owned by a chap called Roger who at the time procured and sorted out cars for the BBC. There were always mocked up police cars and stuff in his workshops lor some show or other, Apparentlythis Wolseleywas boughtfor a Top Gear episodewhereJeremy Clarksonwas goingto fix it up as a bangerand then race at Wimbledon. For variousreasonsthis did not happenand the car was left standingoutsidethe workshopsin the old Fulhamgasworksat TownmeadRoad (now unaffordable housing)until I came along. I used the car for some years and loved it. lvly brotherdid a iour of Englandin it and when he returnedhad drivenhundredsof mileswith the choke outl He did and still doesn'tknow much about cars. I reluctantlyhad to sell the Wolseleyio go to Universityin 1993 and sold it to a Fulhamf lowerman who won a Silvermedalin water oolocomoetitionin 1959 and boughtanythingfrom that year (althoughI think the Wolseleyis actually 1958model).Anyhowhe leftthe car in a car portwhereit neverturneda wheel until 2005 when he agreedto sell it to my wife as a weddingpresentfor me (Whenshe askedif therewas anythingI wantedI drunkenlyrepliedthat I woutd love my old Woiseleyback not thinkingthat it was anywherenear a possibility) To cut a longstoryshortaftera lot of weldingwork and new and secondhand partsit is back on the road and drivingas good as ever.lt needsa respraybut is solidand reliable. At the momentI am stitchingup a new headlining and have purchasedsome steelfrontwings. Then it will needa respraysoon.lt is subtlymodifiedwithcut down front springs, and some small other detailed features. lam very gratefuJ to l\4ark Annets particularly and manyothersfor sortingpartsand bits overthe time to makethe restoratlon oossible.I Dlan to keepthis car.
