UNKNOWN PERFORMANCE: The ubiquitous combination of Triumph engine and Norton frame has long been a popular one in the cafe racer idiom, although this usually entails using an old engine built in the Triumph Meriden factory at some point more than 40 years ago. Neil Adams at Made In Metal knew that a modern Triumph engine from the Hinckley factory would not only make more power, but also be smoother, more reliable and easier to source than a good Meriden motor. And, of course, that extra power requires modern brakes and suspension too, all taken from the 1200cc Hinckley Thruxton version of the Bonneville, bringing hitherto unknown performance to the classic Norton frame . - Dave Manning CRI
