MODERN CLASSICAL SPACE
Site: Shantang Street, Suzhou, China Academic work, Instructor: Adam Brillhart December 2019 Individual work The project is located on Shantang Street, an ancient street in the traditional cultural city of Suzhou. As young people prefer to live in the modern city centre, 80% of the people in Shantang Street are elderly. And due to the imperfect urban planning in ancient times, they lack public spaces for socialising and exercising. The project was designed to simulate the spatial composition of the surrounding old buildings and Suzhou gardens to create a modern elderly activity centre with a familiar spatial environment to meet the daily activities and social needs of the elderly.

PHASE 1 AN EXHIBITION ABOUT TIME AND CHURCH A temporary building that attracts people's attention and lets people know about the church Site: St Luke's Church, Liverpool, GB Academic work, Instructor: Nick webb December 2020 Individual work As a temporary project for three months, this project attempts to turn the church into an eye-catching object of discussion and to use the church itself as an exhibition to show the interaction between time and the church for a limited period of time. The exhibition divides the church into three areas, the old tower area for the ancient times, the courtyard area for the brutal wars and the new watchtower area for the future world, each representing a different time and colliding with each other. Visually, the strong visual contrast between the old and the new towers will arouse curiosity and attention. In terms of experience, one can feel the dramatic changes in the church through time and also the instability of time with the help of the church and the installations in the venue. Through this wonderful experience people can increase their understanding of the history of the church and become more interested in it.

THE IMPORTANCE OF THE CHURCH FACADE
MATERIAL STRATEGIES
The church, visible from a long distance around the main road, is not only a landmark, but also a monument to the city. So the facade of the original building should not be modified or blocked by the new building.
The new building uses materials similar to those of the surrounding buildings, allowing it to distinguish itself from the existing buildings while remaining in harmony with its surroundings.

PHASE 2 REALITY INSIDE THE VIRTUAL CHURCH A multi- functional hall and art hub that brings the venue back to people's daily life Site: St Luke's Church, Liverpool, GB Academic work, Instructor: Graham Stephen February 2021 Individual work After the previous temporary project had already evoked the love and memory of the church, the new permanent project decided to bring the church back into everyday life in the form of a multifunctional hall and art hub. The new building forms a virtual church, leaving the St Luke's church as a monument in the altar of the virtual church. The interior of the St Luke's church has been transformed into a multi-functional hall, which expresses the aesthetics of a traditional church in a modern way. It can be used for events or exhibitions. The outside of the church is mainly an art hub, where artists of different styles will be able to draw inspiration from this beautiful venue and make creations. It is a place where one can feel the special charm of the symbiosis between old and new buildings. Buildings from different eras stand together on the same site and provide an interesting space for people.People are also connected to history in this moment, walking on the same paths as people did a hundred years ago. The architecture returns to the lives of countless people over the centuries.
