Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) at Moses Brown School Upper School
Moses Brown recommends that all students bring laptops (or tablets with keyboards) to school daily. WHY A BYOD PROGRAM?
This BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) program means that students bring their own devices to school for use in the classroom. On campus, the school expects students to use technology responsibly, as outlined in the Ethical Use Policy. For those students who do not bring their own computers to school, departmental laptops will be available for classroom use, and all students may use computers available in Upper Dwares, the Whitford Language Lab, and the Walter Jones library.
Overall, the goal of the use of the campus network and technology is to support the educational mission and values of the MB community. FACULTY EXPECTATIONS:
WHAT COMPUTERS ARE RECOMMENDED?
For students bringing their own laptops or tablets to campus, here is a list of recommended hardware: • Macbook (https://www.apple.com/macbook) • Windows Laptop (Full version of Windows)
In general, faculty expect students to check their school email daily, and be familiar with the calendar and the homework assignment sections of MyMB. Students are responsible for maintaining and updating their logon credentials throughout the year. Many classroom applications use Microsoft Office (which can be downloaded for free from MB’s Office 365 portal). Throughout their academic studies students can expect to access the Internet and other online data bases for research, use Productivity APPS (Office & Google), store and retrieve files from Google Drive, read on-line texts, as well as access other resources. Most of these resources are readily available the MB Digital Cloud, https://cloud.mosesbrown.org/, or through MyMB, https://mosesbrown.myschoolapp.com/.
• iPad with external keyboard (to enhance writing/note taking capabilities) WHERE CAN I PRINT ON CAMPUS?
WHAT IS THE EUP (ETHICAL USE POLICY)?
Moses Brown School (MBS) provides access to a variety of hardware and software assets, as well as to the school’s campus network and the Internet. The Internet is largely ungoverned, and MBS requires each individual to rely upon his or her own strongest virtues of integrity and responsible decision-making when using these vast resources. The school believes that the opportunities for worldwide interaction and access to instructional materials far outweigh the risks inherent in locating controversial and/or offensive materials that may not be consistent with the expectations of the school.
Student print centers are located in Friends Hall, the Burnham House, and the Gifford Building. Print centers let students print from personal laptops, thumb drives ,and online storage systems.
