For the Honor of Truth
“We seek to provide foundational knowledge, skills, and experiences to help students explore a complicated world from multiple perspectives. We value experiential learning, where students work in teams to solve authentic problems that don’t have simple yes-or-no answers. Quaker values provide an animated sense of purpose, which is to inspire the rising generation to make the world a better place.” Matt Glendinning, Head of School
Why a Quaker School?
Quaker (or Friends) Education celebrates the unique gifts of each child, seeks truth in all its forms, and aspires to instill a bold sense of purpose in learning. At Moses Brown: Everyone matters. Quaker pedagogy insists that we care for each other as a community, hearing and respecting everyone’s voice, and making sure that school is a safe place for every child. Silence matters. A practice of reflection and inquiry is essential to living a life of meaning and purpose. In a busy world, these skills are often overlooked. At Moses Brown, we all make time to reflect, to be thoughtful, and to ask probing questions. Truth matters. For more than two centuries, MB has fostered in students a foundation of personal integrity and respect for others, including the non- violent resolution of conflict and a desire to make a positive difference in the world.
Moses Brown sparks a hunger fo North Stars: Guiding Our Vision Moses Brown’s strategic plan—MB Believes— identifies three skills that we believe are critical for success in the 21st century. These “north stars” have guided the creation of exciting new programs and facilities. Expert Thinking Global Awareness Ethical Leadership

We believe in coming together to learn, play, perform, and celebrate. From the Front Circle to the Studio of the Three Oaks, from Alumni Hall to the Grove, a strong sense of place has been part of the MB experience for over 230 years. We seek to honor our past and support a bold vision for the future by developing new teaching spaces that foster creativity, problem-solving, and collaborative learning. Moses Brown’s 33-acre campus gives students a rich holistic educational space—athletic fields, learning and library spaces, performance halls, and plenty of open green space in which to study, explore, and have fun.
bit of inquiry and reflection.
We believe in inspiring mentors who foster passion and curiosity. As a Friends School, everything we do reflects the idea that we each have an Inner Light and are all uniquely valuable. Our charge is to cultivate that Light in children, helping them grow into adults who are intelligent, compassionate, and ethical. We support faculty in creating dynamic learning environments, encouraging them to develop new curriculum and to seek additional training to broaden their horizons and return to the classroom. “I approach my work as a history teacher with a concern for the enduring issues of conflict, power, and inequality, and have long been intrigued by the idea of learning from history. Jennifer Stewart, Upper School Humanities
