Boys’ Squash The boys’ squash team hosted the New England Class B Tournament on February 23-25. Head Coach Graham Holland served as the tournament host for 16 independent schools teams from all around New England.

This is the first year the boys

competed in the Class B Tournament, we are traditionally a Class C school. Since the team competed successfully during the season, they earned the opportunity to play in the Class B tournament. While the team finished 14th overall, Britt DeFeo won the consolation championship and finishing 9th overall.

Middle School Action ••• In middle school action recently, the members of the swim team competed at the Providence Cup at Roger Williams University and many teams took notice of their accomplishments in the pool. While their times were not recorded as helping the varsity teams win second place, they did very well in their respective heats.

Girls’ Hockey The girls’ hockey team continues to roll in the RIIL, continuing to be undefeated at 18-0. Additionally, the coop team with LaSalle traveled to Cape Cod in February for a two-day tournament where they took first place. Asia Porter continues to play strong in net, while Aili Moffett and

The Moses Brown hockey team is currently in second place with a 8-4-1 record. The team has four of the top 10 leading scorers, and Jake Studley and Jack Steckler are currently first and second in scoring. Adam Towey and Chase Harrington are in seventh and eighth place.

Girls’ Squash

The girls’ basketball team concluded the regular season with a one-point loss to Barrington in a home game that determined the Division I Central Division Champions. The team ended the regular season at 14-4, ranked third in Division I tournament. After a strong run in the Division I playoffs, the team fell short against a very strong LaSalle Academy in the championship game. The Open Tournament begins on February 28 with a match up against Chariho HS at 5:30 at BayView Academy.

It has been a very successful season for the team and Oluchi Ezemma has had another outstanding season and is a Gatorade Player of the Year candidate this year. The girls were thrilled to be able to play in front of a full house with our new bleachers installed and they certainly gave the crowd a thrilling game with a 43-37 victory over Cranston West in the quarterfinal round of the Division I tournament. We also want to take this opportunity to thank Kathy O’Connell for her support and work at the scorer’s table over the years. She will be missed, and we wish you all the best in your next “chapter.”

traveled to Pomfret School on February 24 and 25 to participate in the New England Class B Tournament. This is the first time the girls have competed in the Class B, traditionally competing in the Class Tournament. Overall the team finished in 9th place while Lucy Handy finished in 6th place as an individual. The strong finish over the weekend sets the team New England ranking at 25 among all Independent Schools.

Boys’ Basketball The boys’ basketball team finished a rough season with respect to the team record. However, the quality of play significantly improved during the season, and many games down the stretch were very close on the scoreboard. Top contributors for the team down the stretch included Ben Klein, Alvin Themistocle, Jake Wallack, and Eli Coleman. We are very pleased to announce that the team was awarded the Sportsmanship Award by the RI Basketball Coaches Association.

Indoor Track The indoor season for the boys and girls concluded with


several athletes competing at the RIIL State Championship meet. The girls 4 x 200 relay team finished 4th and qualified for New England’s.

Upcoming Games The girls’ varsity basketball team will compete in the RIIL Open Tournament on Wednesday vs. Chariho at 5:30 at BayView Academy. With a win, they will play on Saturday at RIC. The boys’ ice hockey team finished their regular season this weekend with big games against LaSalle and Mount Saint Charles on Friday (7:00) and Saturday (7:30) respectively. Both games are in Smithfield. The girls’ ice hockey playoffs begin on March 2. Information on these games will be posted on the Moses Brown Athletic website: www.mosesbrown.rschooltea ms.org
