Imagine Mosman 2035

Early preparations have begun for Council’s next Community Strategic Plan, to be known as MOSPLAN 2025-2035, which will take effect from 1 July 2025. To ensure that MOSPLAN 2025-2035 best represents local views and aspirations community feedback is essential, and a program of engagement has begun to capture community views. The engagement program includes surveys, group conversations, street-side chats, workshops and activities and is designed to involve all ages and interests. An online engagement site is also available 24/7, providing information on the MOSPLAN development process and offering opportunities to participate.

At this stage of the engagement program we hope that local residents and ratepayers will consider filling out the short ‘Imagine Mosman’ survey included with this newsletter A reply-paid envelope is included for easy return to Council, or surveys can also be dropped off at Mosman Civic Centre. The survey is also available for completion on the ‘Imagine Mosman’ website (see below for details), providing the fastest and simplest way to provide responses to Council

The survey questions themselves are short and simple, and will provide Council with an up-to-the-minute snapshot of community priorities. This will build on and provide a point of comparison with the results of the last major Mosman Community Survey conducted by independent researchers and involving 400 randomly-selected local residents in June last year.

The collective responses from these surveys, together with other engagement activities planned over coming months, will help paint a picture of what locals consider important to our community, today and in the future.

Please consider providing a response to the short survey by the closing date of Sunday 25 August 2024 To access the survey online go to yourvoicemosman com.au/imaginemosman2035

The Mosman community has welcomed a new sports and community facility, the Allan Border Oval Pavilion, with the cricket legend making a special visit to help officially open the building and unveil a statue in his honour.

The state-of-the-art pavilion is designed to meet contemporary requirements for sports, while being accessible to diverse user groups and respecting the heritage legacy of Mosman Park.

It provides an inclusive and sustainable community space, with new amenities that can be used by all ages, at various times of the week, both as part of club activities and independently, with the addition of a half basketball court and community barbecue facilities outside.

The bronze statue on the lawn adjacent to the pavilion, created by artist Linda Klarfeld, captures Allan Border playing a graceful cover drive.

The pavilion project was funded by Mosman Council in association with the NSW Government, Mosman Cricket Club and Cricket NSW.

Border in Mosman

Mosman-raised cricket legend Allan Border returned to his namesake oval for the official opening of the new pavilion and statue unveiling.

Border was joined by another former Australian cricketer and captain, Ian Chappell, for the occasion, along with Mosman Mayor Carolyn Corrigan and Councillors, members of local sporting clubs and key personnel involved in the pavilion project and bringing the statue to Mosman.

Border, who travelled from Queensland for the opening, said he always enjoyed coming back to Mosman.

Chappell said it was terrific Border had been honoured with the pavilion, which was not just for cricket but for the people of Mosman as well.

Works to replace streetlights on the Balmoral Promenade are expected to start in July, for completion before the summer season.

Existing lights will be replaced with LED technology to enhance efficiency, with a projected 40 per cent energy saving.

Lighting has been designed to be contained to pathways to reduce light spill, so as not to disturb surrounding homes and wildlife.

Under-seat lighting will also be added to existing concrete benches to increase amenity.

Art Trail

Notable paintings from the Mosman Art Collection and The Balnaves Gift are being showcased to audiences outside the gallery walls as part of the open-air cultural experience of the Mosman Art Trail.

Interpretive signs depicting 12 notable paintings are located at the sites that inspired the works.

The signs include QR codes, which visitors can use to listen to a spoken word commentary voiced by Australian actor Claudia Karvan. The sites can be visited individually or as part of a 10-kilometre circuit. Pick up a map from Mosman Art Gallery or download a copy from the website: mosmanartgallery.org.au/arttrail

Volunteers celebrated

Volunteers collectively contribute thousands of hours each year to Council programs and activities, and their efforts were celebrated during National Volunteer Week with an afternoon tea in Mosman. In 2024, more than 20 dedicated individuals are marking milestones of up to 25 years’ volunteer service with Council. Opportunities for volunteering are available across a range of areas including Community Care, Youth Services, Bushcare, Library Services and Mosman Art Gallery. Just an hour or two each week or fortnight makes a significant difference to the Mosman community.
