Physicians Can Help in Ensuring Reliable and More Efficient EMR Systems Are EMRs giving you the correct information? Many issues are generated by electronic medical records and one of those is the information overload that can be generated. With too much of information available including programmed questions and answers that are often repetitive, physicians may find it extremely tedious to identify the exact problem of the patient. Very often, busy physicians tend to mark “normal” for all queries under the physical exam section. There is the strong likelihood that some important physical detail may be left out when data is entered mechanically and in a hurry. Another problem that arises is whether an EMR prescription list can be relied upon totally. All doctors who may be treating a patient may not be linked to a hospital’s e-prescription system, in the case of a patient being admitted to the hospital following an emergency. This is a grave concern indeed. In such a case only the patient or his/her relatives can provide the information required. Regarding patient use of EHRs, according to the EMR Patient Impact Study conducted by Aeffect Inc and 88 Brand Partners, around 24% of patients are currently using http://www.mosmedicalrecordreview.com/ 18006702809

electronic health records. Many of them use web systems for sending emails to physicians, making appointments and filling prescriptions. 82% of those using the new system are more satisfied with their physicians than those who don’t use electronic health records. This group of patients is happy with their quality of care, and ease of access to information and excellent communication from their physicians. The survey shows that 52% of the patients are very interested in using the new system but have not been encouraged by their physicians. It rests with the physicians to get more patients interested in EHRs and actually use them. Thus a large part of the success of EMRs depends on the physicians. Whether it is entering correct information, or educating their patients, doctors can contribute a lot. Electronic Health Record vendors and doctors can work together with more understanding to develop reliable electronic medical record systems.
