the deconstructed studio

As a person with ADHD , I have learned to love a space were both my mind and body can discharge the excess energy I possess through constant movement.

From this, I have reformulated my working process into a visual construct within a site, assembling a deconstructed constellation that reflects my habits.

Conceptual Expression. Balsa Wood, Foam Board..
Conceptual Expression. Wood, Metal Nails
Conceptual Expression. Wood, Metal Nails

For this process to be satisfied , a continuous flow needs to dynamically exist between different spaces within one space, accommodating to my needs. The final model is a transformation of the pavilion into an architectectonic apartus or folly, supporting a generated mechanism that engages within the event of the folly. We explored several elements of materiality, from cement, metallic sheets to plexi boards, there was a formation of semiotics between the built form, site and mechanism. The 3d grid is imbedded as a structure into the apparatus to form balance between the imagined and the possible.

The folly itself encompasses a personal event that we have conceptualized through several elements and immaterial quality, creating a visual exaggeration of our concept. This gives a phenomenological meaning to the model, achieving the needed flow of constant movement between dimensional platforms, creating an ecstatic circulation between the platforms feeding into my energy as I move to work in my pavilion. We deconstructed the elements and platforms in a way to visualize their individual strength while keeping the studio culture of commuting inside a studio easily, alive.

The extracted spaces and planes formed a variety of voids in between them, encompassing them and taking control over the environment.

Twisting the narrative, we started using the formed voids as a guiding design element for the Space, giving them the characteristic of embodying sites in nature. Relating to the concept of frames and perspectives, we introduced a keeper that maintains the role of a natural photographer, a keen lover of nature with capitalistic tendencies. With both intertwining, a dilemma emerges, one that explores the nature of the entity that possesses control in this situation.

Is it the voids of nature that dictate how the spaces around it form and how the keeper navigates around and encompasses these voids? Or is it the keeper themself who has control, capitalistically building around nature and using its elements for their own advantage and admiration.

With so, we keep at balance between the two entities by designing around the voids and using the voids for different design functions in the space itself. while still accommodating to the keeper’s admiration towards nature, using elements that echo nature itself, of anticipation , perspective , framing and uncertainty .

The proposal is to create a controlled communal space for elderly people that provides them with comfort, welfare, and socialization while still maintaining control over their safety and well-being. The concept includes resuscitation to revive their moments of pleasure, blinded control to achieve a state of control without interrupting their freedom, and a communal village that reflects their social attributions. The architectural design will use irregularity and open spaces that connect together using ramps to achieve equilibrium and resuscitation.

the structural system consists of structural walls spanning less than 8.5 meters according to the calculations of each slab thicknessin reference to the ACI table and occupancy group of each spacethe slabs average at a .3 meter thickness except in one area where the span is more than 8 meters so thickness can be increased to .4 meters
