How You can DOMINATE The Week as a Woman in Business
As a business coach and busy Momprenuer, I am asked all the time, “What should I really be doing?” The truth is, all Women want to know the key to Getting it all done!
I believe success is simple, but it is not always easy. Especially when you are juggling work, family, life, friends, the dog….. shall I continue? Life is filled with distractions, and they are not going away. The key is being able to both recognize and have some tools to face those daily demands and distractions.
Here are a few of my tips to help you gain clarity on what you really need to do with your time: Get prepared. One of the best ways to have success and stay on top of things is to prepare. I encourage women to carve out time for a “success planning session” before the week even begins. This allows for you to get clear on the activities you need to do ( both business and personal), the clients and customers you need to reach out to and the projects that need to be completed. You can lay out your schedule and know where your focus needs to go as you head into your week. I call it a Success Plan because that is exactly what we are doing – setting the plan for a successful week. One of the things I do is to have a weekly business planning meeting with myself on Sunday evening. I use this time (approximately 45 minutes) to reflect on and review the prior week and set myself up for the new week ahead. I get my list of clients I need to call and follow up with. In addition, I put my schedule together; I identify my hours of operation for that week, when I am available for appointments, when I will make calls and when I will focus on my administrative duties. I even block time for personal items and time off. Everything has a place, and this helps to ensure that the right things will get done.
As the CEO of your life, you need to make sure you control it. Whoever controls your time will control your business, so get prepared.
Learn daily.
From my perspective, you are either growing or dying. One of the best ways to serve others is to make sure you are strong in your skillsets and mindset. Make time for learning every day, and grow into the person your clients need.
To help me step into my greatness as a Momepreneur, I look at my target audience and identify their challenges. Then I ask myself: How can I best become the solution to those challenges? This helps me identify the skillsets I need to grow. I look for resources such as books, podcasts and mentors who can help me in those areas.
Some of my favorite Boss Ladies to follow are Mel Robbins, Brene Brown, Oprah and Marie Forleo.
Connect.
At the end of the day, life is a contact sport. We need to connect with others; it is one of the strongest human drives. Identify how you can best connect with those around you. Is it through calls, faceto-face meetings, social media or all of the above? Determine where your customers are and how you can best deliver both connection and value to them on a regular basis.
I know time is precious and we do not have a lot of extra time for meet and greets. I find that my best avenue for connection is the phone. The phone allows me to connect and also better control my time. I have found that when I stay connected with them on a regular basis, they are happy to hear from me, I can add value to their lives and also get to know them on a more personal level. I have also started to add in video, which adds in a little more of a personal and human touch.
Rest.
In my experience, many leaders are taught to work long hours and put “your nose to the grindstone.” I believe nothing could be more untrue. Working longer doesn’t mean success. In fact, when you do not take time for rest and recovery, you can experience burnout and become distracted, unfocused and perform worse. One of my clients saw an increase in her business of over 75%. When I asked her what her secret was, she said, “Vacation.” When she came back, she was refreshed and renewed. As a result, she was excited and felt more connected to her customers. It’s important to remember that self-care is not selfish; it is one of the best ways to help yourself better serve others. When you take a break, you can renew yourself and strengthen your ability to deliver what your clients need. Your customers need you to be at your peak performance, so make sure you deliver. Take care of yourself. You can only serve when you are at your best, and you will not be at your best when you are tired, worn out and unfocused. So as you go forward and work toward success as a Woman in Business, focus on what you really should be doing. Success is not an accident; it is a choice. Make the right choices for yourself, and success will follow.
