maternity bras why should I buy a maternity bra? One of the first things you may notice when you discover you’re pregnant is a change in breast size. Your breasts continue to change throughout pregnancy, sometimes going up a couple of cup sizes. As tempting as it is to wear your normal bras at this time, all our bras are wire free ensuring nothing can dig in to your delicate breast tissue during this rapid time of change.
When do I need my first maternity bra? - When your current bras feel uncomfortable, often around 6 weeks. How often should I be fitted? - It depends on your individual needs, but every 6-8 weeks is usually fine. How many bras will I need? - It depends on you, but many women find four is about right. When will I need a nursing bra? - Get measured around 36-38 weeks to be ready for when your milk comes in. What size bra will I need? - visit our in store bra fitting advisors to find the right fit.

Car seats are divided into groups and it is your child’s weight, not age, that matters. Weigh your child before visiting a Mothercare store so we can help you select the correct car seat.
Ensure you are clear on the benefits of keeping your child rearward-facing for as long as possible. There are a number of options once your child is ready to move into a Group 1 car seat and our car seat experts will give you all the information you need to make this decision.

The make and model of your car is also important, if there are multiple cars that the car seat will be used in ensure this is communicated to our experts.

If you have an ISOFIX car safety seat and ISOFIX mounts in your car, you can minimise the risk of installation errors when securing your child car seat. ISOFIX is the standard system for all new cars and seat manufacturers, designed to make installing your child safety seat quick and easy. With ISOFIX you simply ‘plug in’ a compatible car safety seat to mounting points in the car.
WHAT IS THE LAW? The law states that all children must use a car seat until they are 135cm in height. It is the driver’s responsibility to ensure children under the height of 135cm are restrained correctly in accordance with the law.

Moses baskets are ideal as they’re small and comfortable. They can easily be moved around your home making them perfect for daytime naps or longer sleeps at night.
Cribs are smaller versions of cots and are suitable for newborns until about six months old (depending on the size of your baby).
Cots can be used for newborns. Just remember to put your baby in the feet to foot position (your baby’s feet placed at the bottom of the cot to minimise the risk of him wriggling under the covers).

The magical first bath... Step 1... For any new parents daunted by bathtime, we promise it can be fun! Try to get everything ready first; towels, baby shampoo, sleepsuits and nappies so that you can focus on bathing your baby. Keep the water shallow and test the temperature with a baby thermometer – the water should be warm but not hot, 36°c–38°c is perfect for little ones. Step 2... Start by undressing your little one but keep his nappy on. He won’t like being cold so wrap him in a towel while you gently clean his face and neck with cotton wool and cool boiled water. You can wash his hair whilst he is cosy and wrapped up in the towel by holding him firmly over the bath. Step 3... Now it’s time to remove his nappy, wash his bottom and place him in the bath. Always support him by keeping a hand on him and never leave him alone in the bath. Step 4... Once he’s bathed it’s cuddle time! Wrap him in a towel and give him a hug!

Whether you are using expressed breast milk or formula, careful and thorough washing and sterilising is essential. Use a bottle and teat brush to help you clean all the equipment thoroughly before you put it in the sterilising unit. Always wash your hands before taking items out of the steriliser. When using the steriliser unit, read the instructions carefully and practise using the unit before you actually need to use it. If making up a feed – very carefully follow the formula milk manufacturer’s instructions.
