This is The Travel Issue – which locations are top of your travel list? I’ve always wanted to visit Greece in summer. The serene white architecture against the cerulean blue water is majestic and never fails to captivate me. But my idea of navigating the country doesn’t end at exploring just the known hot spots like Santorini and Mykonos, I’d also love to visit the hidden gems – Spinalonga Island, Kalymnos, and Antiparos. Where will you be travelling to this summer? This summer, I’ll be returning to India and exploring beyond the Konkan belt of Goa and Maharastra to travel across the southernmost part of the Indian subcontinent – Tamil Nadu. Pondicherry, a former French colonial settlement, which is now a Union Territory. Known as the “Côte d’Azur of the East” or “The Indian Riviera”, its French legacy can be seen in the colonial architecture and the pristine beaches that cover the coast.

The Summer Suit

We discuss why the summer suit is the most versatile thing you can pack with our expert, Suited & Booted’s Eilidh Macallum

56 emirateswoman.com FASHION

What does your morning routine look like at home versus on vacation? My morning routine on holiday is much more laidback compared to a usual morning in Dubai. At home, my morning has a bit more structure – choosing a suitable outfit for a professional environment and preparing for the day ahead. Holiday allows a more easy-going approach to both dressing and the day – where I would opt for lighter fabrics and more casual, relaxed cuts to suit the destination. Why is a summer suit so versatile on vacation? A summer suit is perfect for vacation, as it can seamlessly transition your look from day to night. Tailoring provides a refined look, and using breathable and lightweight fabrics for such will provide comfort in warm weather while still looking sharp.

Which shades do you recommend as ideal for summer suiting and how do you ensure they are opaque?

My favourite shades for summer tailoring are light and fresh neutrals, such as beige, sand and tan. Bolder tones can also add a fun element to a tailored look — burnt orange, sunny yellows and mint green have been very popular so far this season for women’s tailoring. We carefully select the highest quality fabrics and use appropriate linings to ensure opacity in all of our suits.

Which fabrics are the best for summer in terms of staying cool? Lightweight fabrics such as linen, silk or wool/linen blends are ideal for staying cool and comfortable in hot climates. At Suited & Booted we stock a huge range of suitable options for summer, including many fabrics which are designed specifically for temperature regulation.

What detailing is important to ensure a sharp, tailored feel? Attention to detail is key – elements such as lapel style, shoulder structure and precise stitching all contribute to the polished look of tailored garments. Finishing touches include appropriate button selection and complimentary accessories to complete the look. Would you recommend three piece suits for summer as a waistcoat is so versatile? Absolutely – a waistcoat as part of a summer suit allows your outfit to be adapted to various temperatures, and multiple occasions. Opting for a three piece suit provides you with numerous outfit options, and can be styled in many different ways for maximum versatility.

What is the best way to pack a suit? We would always recommend travelling with your suit as hand luggage, in a dedicated garment bag to protect your suit and minimise creasing during travel. When you arrive, hang your suit flat as soon as possible, and steam if needed.

Where will you be escaping to this summer? This summer, I’m excited to be spending a couple of weeks in Cyprus with my family – it’s one of my favourite holiday destinations.

Packing Light

Content

WORDS: RUMAN BAIG

THE PREP WORK

Content creator Muzi Sufi, approaches packing with precision. “Pre-planning holiday looks saves me so much time when I travel. To be able to pick out an outfit that I’ve thought about beforehand and packed together really takes the stress out of dressing while I’m away.”

THE LUGGAGE

Your choice of suitcase is key when packing. Divide shoes, accessories and toiletries into one side of your packing and leave the other for lying pieces flat to ensure minimal need for steaming when you reach your destination. Opt for a hard-shell suitcase with a 360-spin. Make sure it’s lightweight, leaving more weight for your belongings. Check for storage, expandability, compartments, and security codes that pass the TSA regulations.

THE COLOUR PALETTE

Selecting a colour palette that suits the location you’re traveling to ensures you can also pack less pieces that all work back to each other. “I love neutrals, so I try to pick pieces that could be worn with a few different looks, but if I want to carry statement pieces, I’ll make sure they complement at least two of my other outfits,” adds Muzi.

THE MINIMALIST

Accessories wise, a great tote or beach bag for day (depending on whether you’re beach, or city bound) and a clutch for evening are all you need. Footwear can take up a lot of space in your travel luggage, try and limit yourself to a few pairs that are multipurpose. “Shoes are tough to narrow down for me, but I always believe you need one very good walking shoe, one flat sandal, and a light and dark option for a heel to go out with.”

When it comes to toiletries, transferring your essential skin and body care products into travel-sized containers is a great option, most already also have travel sized versions. Select a fragrance for the trip – you don’t need to overpack on these, define the vibe you’re going for and stick to it – the same goes for make-up.

Diba Hawa, Founder of Therapy by Dee, a DHA & CIBTAC certified Manual and Gua Sha Therapist discusses how lymphatic drainage can support your body to perform at an optimal level

What do the first 30 minutes of your day look like? As a therapist, my mornings start with a focus on setting a positive tone for the day. I begin with mindfulness or meditation to centre myself, followed by hydrating and nourishing my body with a glass of warm lemon water. Light stretching exercises or yoga help prepare me physically for my work. I then review my schedule and client notes to ensure personalised care. Prioritising self-care, I incorporate rituals like dry brushing and self-massage. By dedicating these first 30 minutes to myself, I am better prepared to provide optimal care and support to my clients during therapy sessions. What is a lymphatic drainage massage used for? Lymphatic drainage massage serves multiple purposes and provides a range of benefits. In summary: Lymphatic drainage massage supports detoxification by eliminating toxins and excess fluids from the body. It helps reduce oedema and swelling caused by conditions like lymphedema or post-surgery inflammation. By improving lymphatic flow, it enhances immune system function and the body’s ability to fight infections. The gentle strokes of this massage technique induce relaxation, reduce stress, and promote mental clarity. It aids in post-surgical recovery, accelerating healing and minimising scar tissue formation. Lymphatic drainage massage can be used to reduce cellulite and contour the body. Individual results may vary, so it is advisable to consult with a qualified therapist or healthcare professional to determine the suitability of lymphatic drainage massage for specific needs and conditions. How effective is the process of lymphatic

drainage? It is effective in promoting lymphatic flow and providing various benefits such as reduced swelling, improved immune function, detoxification, relaxation, and overall wellbeing. They have shown positive results in conditions like lymphedema, post-surgical swelling, fibromyalgia, and sports-related injuries. However, individual outcomes may vary depending on factors like specific conditions, overall health, and the therapist’s expertise. Consulting with a qualified professional is recommended to determine suitability and expected results. What technique do you use? Lymphatic drainage massages are performed using gentle, rhythmic strokes and specific techniques to stimulate the flow of lymphatic fluid throughout the body. The therapist applies pressure with their hands or specialised tools, following the pathways of the lymphatic system. Techniques such as pumping movements, circular motions, and stationary holds are used to encourage lymphatic flow and release blockages. The session is personalised based on the client’s needs, focusing on specific areas of swelling or concern. After the massage, clients are advised to hydrate well to support the body’s natural detoxification process.

Are there other ways to remove lymphatic fluid from my tissues? There are several ways to remove lymphatic fluid from tissues in addition to lymphatic drainage massages. Staying hydrated helps flush out toxins and supports the body’s detoxification process. Regular physical activity promotes lymphatic flow and circulation. Deep diaphragmatic breathing exercises can create gentle pressure changes to stimulate lymphatic

flow. Wearing compression garments applies gentle pressure to assist in moving lymphatic fluid. Eating a balanced diet supports overall health and lymphatic function. Elevating affected areas and avoiding prolonged inactivity can aid in reducing swelling and promoting lymphatic flow. Dry brushing and avoiding tight clothing or shoes that restrict circulation.

What are the key benefits? Lymphatic drainage massages can help reduce swelling, boost the immune system, decrease inflammation, improve circulation, and promote relaxation. Lymphatic drainage massage can benefit conditions such as lymphedema, post-surgical swelling, oedema, inflammatory conditions, immune system support, fatigue, stress, cellulite, and body contouring. It is important to consult with a qualified professional for personalised guidance. How often should we be doing this? The frequency of lymphatic drainage massages is personalised and can vary depending on individual needs and specific conditions. In general, it is recommended to start with a series of sessions close together, such as two to three times per week, for a few weeks. Afterwards, the frequency can be adjusted based on the individual’s response and progress. Some people may benefit from regular maintenance sessions every month or every few months, while others may require more frequent sessions.

To prepare for a lymphatic drainage massage, hydrate adequately, avoid heavy meals, limit caffeine and alcohol intake, wear comfortable clothing, and communicate any medical conditions or concerns with your therapist.

Summer Energy

Negin Baradari discusses the importance of knowing the power of where you travel to and how it can impact your wellbeing

80 emirateswoman.com LIFESTYLE IMAGE: GETTY IMAGES

WORDS:

AMY SESSIONS

What “energy” does summer hold? Summer escapes can be a wonderful opportunity to recharge our batteries, experience new cultures, and create lasting memories with loved ones. But did you know that the location you choose for your summer getaway can have a significant impact on your overall wellbeing? That’s where the concept of “AstroCartography” comes in.

Why is it so important to choose the right travel destination based on your energy typology? The impact our environment can have on our overall wellbeing is key. Research has shown that being in nature can have a range of health benefits, including reducing stress, improving mood, and boosting cognitive function. Similarly, being in a location that resonates with your individual energy typology can help you feel more grounded, centered, and at peace. It can also help you tap into your natural strengths and abilities, which can be particularly beneficial if you’re looking to make a major life change or pursue a new goal. Travel can be a wonderful opportunity to take a break from our daily routines, recharge our batteries, and create lasting memories with loved ones. By considering your AstroCartography or AstroGeology when choosing a travel destination, you can potentially enhance the benefits of your summer escape and create a deeper connection with the places you visit. What do you see when you look at someone’s AstroCartography? The Power Spots. AstroCartography can help you identify specific locations where the planetary alignments at the time of your birth have a strong influence. These “power spots” can be areas where you feel more energised, fulfilled, or in alignment with your true self. By knowing these spots, you can prioritise them in your travel plans and experience a deeper connection to the places you visit. The New Opportunities. Astrocartography can reveal areas where the planetary energies are aligned to support specific aspects of your life. For example, if you’re looking for career opportunities or personal growth, astrocartography can point out locations where the astrological conditions favor those pursuits. Exploring these places can potentially open up new avenues for success in your chosen field.

What is AstroCartography? AstroCartography is a type of locational astrology, created by astrologer Jim Lewis in the 1970s. Simply speaking, it is a visual system for mapping how your astrological birth chart (natal chart) corresponds to different locations on earth. How can it affect our choice of travel destinations? AstroCartography is the study of how the alignment of the planets and stars at the time of your birth can influence the places where you feel most energized and fulfilled. Similarly, AstroGeology is the study of how the geological features of a location can impact your overall wellbeing. Both of these concepts suggest that every destination holds a certain “energy” that can either support or detract from your individual energy typology. AstroCartography is the study of how the alignment of the planets and stars at the time of your birth can influence the places where you feel most energized and fulfilled. It suggests that every destination holds a certain “energy” that can either support or detract from your individual energy typology. By considering AstroCartography when choosing a travel destination, you can align your unique energy typology with the location, potentially enhancing your overall wellbeing and travel experience. By doing so, you can maximize the benefits of your summer escape and ensure that you’re choosing a location that aligns with your unique energy typology.

For example, if you’re someone who is naturally drawn to water and feels most at peace when you’re near the ocean, you might consider destinations that have a strong water element in their astrocartography or astrogeology. This could include places like Hawaii, Bali, or the Greek islands, which are all known for their beautiful beaches and ocean views. On the other hand, if you’re someone who is more drawn to mountains and enjoys being surrounded by nature, you might look for destinations that have a strong earth element in their AstroCartography or AstroGeology. This could include places like Colorado, Switzerland, or New Zealand, which are all known for their stunning mountain ranges and outdoor activities.

The Enhanced Relationships. AstroCartography can shed light on locations where the energy is conducive to building and strengthening relationships. If you’re seeking love or looking to improve your existing partnerships, AstroCartography can guide you towards destinations where the planetary alignments support harmonious connections and emotional fulfillment. It can be an exciting way to plan a romantic getaway or a meaningful trip with loved ones. The Spiritual Connections. If you’re on a spiritual journey, AstroCartography can assist in finding places with strong spiritual energy. These locations might have sacred sites, meditation retreats, or spiritual communities that align with your spiritual beliefs and practices. Visiting these destinations can deepen your spiritual connection, provide transformative experiences, and offer opportunities for growth and self-discovery.

The Self-Reflection and Healing. AstroCartography can help you identify locations that are aligned with self-reflection, healing, and personal development. These places might offer opportunities for introspection, holistic therapies, or wellness practices that resonate with your energy typology. By visiting such destinations, you can create space for self-care, rejuvenation, and inner transformation. What is your key travel tip? For effortless travel, honour your own energy by becoming aware of what energy the travel spot holds uniquely for you. It is as much a journey inwards as it is an exploration of your selected destination.

Outside the Comfort Zone

Two inspiring Emirati women who have dared to step outside their comfort zones to scale to incredible heights

90 emirateswoman.com LIFESTYLE

Nayla Albaloushi

She was the first and only Emirati woman to summit Mount Everest in 2022. While that itself is already a monumental feat, she’s only getting started and Nayla’s passion to explore remains just as strong.

MAKING THE LEAP

“January 2022, I then did research and found a company. I spoke with them, and we started to arrange for the adventure.”

CLIMBING MT. EVEREST

“I honestly can’t describe my feelings, it is like shocked, amazed, proud yet humble and grateful for Allah who gave me a patient mind and strength to make it to the top of the world and get the chance to experience the feeling from the highest peak on earth, make history and achieve a new record as an Emirati woman.

“Alhamdullah No, my only goal was to reach the summit, it was the reason I left home and family from the beginning, right? I took one small step after another, distracting my mind by the names of Allah. I also got by reading, I had the Qur’an and a colouring book, and of course listening to the stories and adventures of other climbers.”

THE DREAM

“To His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, my first supporter, my family and each and every woman who has a dream and works hard on it to make it come true.

“Since I was young, I have always seen my mother as strong, patient and she has always guided meme towards what I later realized was the right thing .”

“There are so many things to explore other than mountains, and I would love to try something new.”

Nouf Omar

In 2022, Nouf Omar was named the youngest female Emirati pilot at age 22. Fast-forward one year, being in the aviation space is where Nouf finds an equilibrium of joy, peace and freedom.

MAKING THE LEAP

“I was introduced to the aviation world through one of my father’s relatives, Captain Samir, hearing his stories made me want to become like him and have that dynamic lifestyle. I started researching about how I could study to become a pilot and studied my options.”

HONOUR & RESPONSIBILITY

“Putting on my pilot’s uniform, wearing that hat and flying the UAE’s flag around the skies of the world is an honour, a responsibility and a vital role to me as an Emirati woman and a pilot. I am not only

representing myself, but I am also the image of the Emirati woman, Emirates Airlines and the UAE.

“Don’t give up no matter how hard it gets because the view from the flight deck is one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen.”

THE POWER OF FEMININITY

“It was very helpful to ask female pilots about their experience in the field and to learn more about the job. Pilot Salma Alblooshi was the first Emirati female pilot in Etihad, and I got a chance to speak to her before joining the programme. She cleared my mind on a few concerning points but mainly it helped me consider the consequences and sacrifices that were awaiting me.

“I share my stories not because I want everyone to become a pilot but because I want them to dare to dream big and to know that it is possible to become whatever they want as long as there is will, determination, and hardwork.”

THE DREAM

“The supporting environment that I grew up in is the primary attribution. I had the support I needed as a young girl from my family, my friends, my school, and of course the UAE. They all played a role in pushing me to achieve what seemed impossible to dream about. My family encouraged me to enter the aviation industry. My friends are proud of my achievements. My school educated me to be qualified to be a pilot and supported me when needed. The UAE gave me the opportunity to achieve my dream by providing programmes for Emiratis to become pilots.

“I always had it in me since I was a little kid. I enjoyed trying different sports, exploring, and doing new things. I like to spend my time doing things I love and that gets me excited like food, places and sports. I would like to explore more of this vast world but mostly centered on food and unique experiences.”

A Sustainable Getaway

Group Director of Sustainability & Conservation GTAEF of Minor Hotels, John Roberts shares how Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp & Resort in Chiang Rai, Thailand, makes the getaway that gives back

WORDS: SARAH JOSEPH

Talk us through your role. Actually, I don’t have a formal role at Anantara Golden Triangle anymore, but I came here to set up the elephant camp in 2003 and have been here ever since! I oversee the elephant side of things still from a distance and am here to help the hotel in general.

The property puts sustainability at the forefront – was this the plan from the outset and how has this been implemented throughout the resort? I certainly think we were ahead

of the curve in 2003, as well as elephants my background was conservation, so we looked after the land as a sanctuary for all wild species from the beginning and were having discussions around solar heated water from a very early stage. We were among the first to get Green Growth 2050 certification back in 2008. The recent acceleration has been a combination of factors, some very sustainability focused with General Managers, strong new Sustainability goals from Minor Hotels, Anantara’s mothership plus I think the slowdown during COVID gave us a chance to plan how best to move sustainably forward. What are some of the key wellness activities offered onboard? In keeping with the area, you can choose to start your day by travelling to a local temple to join a Buddhist monk in

his morning meditation or pick a spot in our gardens for some sunrise yoga. Later there is time for Pilates or, if you’re feeling more energetic, we have a Muay Thai ring and practice area next to our gym or you can join a Fit-ball session.

Anantara Golden Triangle is a unique property with views of three countries – tell us more. We’re easy to find on the map, just find the place where Thailand, Myanmar and Laos meet, it is a confluence between the Mekong and Ruak rivers - travel about 500m up the Ruak and you’ll find us. We actually bring some guests in this way to give them a real sense of place. The hotel was originally built in the 1980’s by visionary Thai architect Mom Tri, Anantara took it over in 2002 and employed some more visionaries, including Bill

98 emirateswoman.com LIFESTYLE

Bensley, to refurbish the interiors and the landscaping but leave the fabric of the building much as Mom Tri envisaged. From every aspect of the hotel, you look out over our grassland, where the elephants live, across the Ruak River largely hidden in its channel, the forests of Myanmar and the Mekong to the distant mountains of Laos.

Guests can commune with the elephants in their natural habitat in the Jungle Bubbles –what does the entire experience entail? For me, hanging out with elephants as I have since 1999, the beautiful thing about this experience is the elephants totally ignore you. You are doing your thing, enjoying dinner beneath the stars, enjoying the sounds of the forest. You get to watch and know this is what elephants do when they can do what they want. The glo-

ry of the Bubbles themselves is that they are completely transparent so, as comfortable as the bed is, as secure and wrapped up as you feel don’t expect to get much sleep. The moon, the stars and the weather patterns are just too alluring and, if you’re an elephant buff (OK, maybe just me), venturing outside every two hours just to hear them off in the darkness (elephants only need to sleep four hours a night) munching, crunching and chatting away. Don’t tell anyone but, if you’re lucky, you may even hear the elephants snoring. The property has over 20 elephants – how are they taken care of in the 60-acre bamboo forest? The elephants spend most of their time in the grassland where they have the greatest variety of food (they eat up to 165 types of plant) and access to ponds and mud baths. The greatest goal of the camp is to find the best balance for keeping elephants living alongside the humans that have kept them for over 4,000 years in Thailand while not contributing to more being caught or born into captivity. Like the rest of us elephants need exercise to stay healthy, but, like most of us, if all our needs are delivered to us, they won’t move very much! So, we take them on exercise daily, something guests can join as a Walking With Giants activity. We bring them into camp regularly for our Positive Reinforcement Target Training sessions which not only help reinforce the bond with their caretaker or ‘mahout’ it also provides a chance for our on-site vet team to check them out, trim their toenails and administer any needed care. Visitors can tastefully enjoy local experiences – could you elaborate on the offerings at the resort. Having been here since the 1980s we are very much part of the local community and have always found ways to introduce our guests to our neighbours and vice versa. Currently the best way to do this is through our Spice Spoons cooking classes which take you to the local market where you not only select your own ingredients for cooking but you get to chat to vendors, sample local teas and coffees much as the vendors themselves do. You even travel to take a quick snack at the local Village Head’s house before heading back to our organic garden for mushrooms and herbs before your cooking experience even begins. Another way to sample local culture is through our side car trips which take you through some very rural areas to see agricultural practices first-hand, stop off at temples and see the area at street level.

The spa ensures each guest embarks on a bespoke wellness journey – what are some of the key treatments offered? There is a full spa menu of treatments from around the globe, but we prefer to focus on local indigenous treatments such as the Bamboo Massage and Yam Khang Fire Therapy employing local practitioners. Another highlight is a tradi-

tional detoxification therapy used for centuries in Thailand. Ya-Pao works by balancing the wind, water, and fire elements in the body. As a thick herbal paste is applied to the abdomen, the heat starts gently warming the skin and releasing any abdominal tension. In addition to its detoxifying properties, Ya-Pao can also alleviate symptoms like inflammation and coughing by increasing the blood flow and targeting the lymphatic and digestive systems. Of course, our Spa is lovely but for full natural immersion you can choose to have your treatment in our outdoor pavilion, surrounded by greenery, in our Spa by Nature programme. What elements make the property unique overall? The elephants, of course, the three

country views, the dedication to sustainability are all special but most of all it is the team. Like any workplace you have coming and going, but I am far from the only person to have been part of this resort for 20 years or more and as a result the friendly, welcoming homely spirit of the resort is something that is almost impossible to replicate.

This is The Travel Issue – where are you travelling to this year? We’re still catching up from COVID so I’m not sure I’ll get a ‘non work’ escape this summer but I have already been to Anantara Desaru Coast in Malaysia where we have a project to ‘rewild’ the neighbourhood to reconnect habitats for gibbons and tapirs who live in the vicinity – I also got to visit wild elephants and an area famous for wild dugongs. Next week I’m on business in Europe and I hope to catch some of the new Anantaras there as they prepare to implement our signature ‘Dollars for Deeds’ fundraising scheme. End of the month I’m working on trips to our 18,000ha wild elephant corridor in Cambodia to catch up with our hard-working rangers as well as Anantara Rasananda on Koh Phangan to make contacts for the team regarding a proposed coral restoration project. Also, very much on the radar but probably later in the summer is the new Anantara Mina Al Arab in Ras Al Khaimah, which is known for its mangroves and, a little birdie told me, some dugongs that visit from time to time.

We place emphasis on addressing the entirety of an individualʼs health by comprehensively examining their medical history to gain a complete understanding of the current health status. The treatment plan will evolve over time as you progress on your wellness journey. Traditional Thai medicine, and Traditional Chinese Medicine, to create a fully integrative personalised wellness programme. What was the inspiration behind launching RAKxa, the luxury wellness destination? We understand that everyone’s health journey is unique and ever-changing. When it comes to individual health, a ‘one size fits all’ treatment will not be as effective as a personalised one where each individual’s health issues are uniquely treated. We are dedicated to being your trusty health guide, offering valuable support to those navigating the complexities of the healthcare system. We are dedicated to healing, sustaining, and preventing - a lasting wellness journey tailored to your unique needs. We embrace an integrative approach as a whole to wellbeing through a combination of health care, therapies, treatments, and wisdom of traditional and modern medicine, along with, nutrition, rest, and taking advantage of their unique healing benefits that complement one another, then integrate them into a healing system or what we call a programme, to deliver synergistic and complementary wellness results, with a more pleasant healing experience. Our brand philosophy states, ‘Health is Wealth’ – Everyone wishes to guard and cherish their health as much as their wealth.

The villas are designed to encourage deep rest and reflection. How does the design and layout ensure utmost relaxation? The layout and function of the villas are ergonomically designed by doctors to create a safe and comfortable resting space for everyone. The bed’s height is set to no higher than 70cm for comfort, especially for elderly guests or those with back pain and injuries. Natural materials such as hypoallergenic cotton silk bedsheets are chosen, with a choice of six pillow types for our guests to choose from (contour massage, cervicalopedic, classic natural latex, buckwheat, companion, and memory foam), all are made from natural materials. The organic selection of amenities made from high-quality natural materials designed by Thai local brands embraces the idea of giving back to the local community. Our rooms are decorated with earth tones, creating a calm and serene atmosphere. Soft fabrics and blackout curtains are installed throughout the villas so that our guests can enjoy a peaceful and undisturbed night’s rest. This wellness retreat is the first of its kind in Thailand that promises a fully transformative experience. Could you elaborate on the different programmes available? Our integrative approaches are fully adopted and designed into different programmes to heal today’s most concerning symptoms and obtain optimal health benefits. For examples, Sense of RAKxa, Destress, Detox, Weight Management, Immunity Booster, Gut Health, Mobilisation and Personalised Wellness. Our detox programmes aim to purify your body based on the lore of alternative medicine and enhance toxin removing mechanisms in a biological sense. Our integrative approach draws on therapeutic abdominal massage in combination with clinical colon hydrotherapy to increase the clearance of metabolic wastes, and traditional medicine procedures involving the use of herbal preparation, acupuncture, cupping, and massages in collaboration with scientifically proven cold and oxygen therapy to improve the circulation of the blood and lymphatic system to enhance the removal of toxins and impurities.

The RAKxa’s wellness cuisine is centered on ingredients. How does the retreat focus on restoring balance through food? We believe that good food is the best medicine. Our food philosophy is rooted in the idea that what we eat can profoundly impact our overall health and wellness. By understanding each of our guest’s unique dietary needs, conditions, and preferences, we could offer a personalised healthy and balanced dietary menu. At the beginning of your programme – our chefs and nutritionists collaborate with doctors and use dietary lab test results to curate personalised menus that meet individual health goals, from optimising gut health for efficient nutrient absorption to striving to minimise and eventually eliminate harmful toxins accumulated in the body. Also, we work with our traditional medicine doctors – we believe that a balance of opposing forces, known as Yin and Yang, is

crucial for both the body’s optimal functioning and overall health. Science and tradition come together at RAKxa. How are the traditional treatments combined with energy healing practices? Energy Medicine at RAKxa Integrative Wellness is a healing practice that is based on the perpetual transmutation of vibrational energy and has been around for centuries. The techniques are cultivated in various cultures and traditions, and our talented guru’s conduct with grace and skill. At RAKxa, we offer unique examples of this methodology from all corners of the world: singing bowls from ancient Tibet, chakra and pranic healing, part of ancient Ayurveda methodology, healing with crystals which date back to Ancient Egypt and Ancient Greece, and Reiki, which originates from Japan. The transformative effects of energy healing help to unleash joy and peace by manipulating brainwaves, enhancing individuals’ chemistry and hormone levels, removing energy stagnation and improving your overall wellbeing. Energy healing can be integrated and treated alongside other medical services, whether it is exercises, physical therapies, or administering medical care such as intravenous vitamin (IV) infusions, because we want everyone to be in good health both inside and out and, importantly, in mind and spirit. The property’s medical gym uses technology, functional medicine and the science of movement – what are some of the bespoke exercise routines available?

Our medical gym at RAKxa Gaya uses a diagnostic approach, drawing upon technology, physiotherapy, sports medicine, and the science of movement to create a personalised exercise. RAKxa’s team of physiotherapists and sports scientist conduct a comprehensive assess-

ment of guests’ body posture, stability, endurance, strength, coordination and balance, as well as everyday movement using state-of-the-art equipment and world-class Olympic Grade Standard machines such as walk-pattern analysis with Gait Analysis, Functional Assessment with Huber, and Neuromuscular reactivation using Redcord Muscle Function Restoration with Red Cord Exercise. Following a thorough assessment, the results are then interpreted by a staff of movement specialists, physiotherapists, and wellness trainers who create custom-made training plans that blend results-oriented, corrective exercises, that are both modern and traditional. Your training programme will be specifically tailored to your conditions and abilities, as well as your personal wellness goals. Head to Toe Stretch, which is a one-on-one session provided by medical gym staff, is recommended. This passive stretch helps you gently loosen up your physical tension, reduce lactic acid build-up, and improve your range of motion and flexibility.

The VitalLife provides hyper-personalised treatments – what’s the science behind this technology? Our anti-ageing medicine is an array of modern technologies from advanced diagnostic equipment to innovative therapeutic interventions that create hyper-personalised treatments designed to restore and optimise guests’ health and longevity. We strive to provide guests with the highest level of medical standards and care, ensuring they receive the most advanced and tailored anti-ageing solutions in a comfortable and welcoming environment. The treatment sessions are based in the Medical Wellness Clinic under the supervision of medical professionals from VitalLife.

Chef Yannick Alleno

STAY BY YANNICK

Where would you love to eat this summer? In my new restaurant, Pavyllon London, because we worked a lot with local producers to create the menu. I would also love to go to Paris and try a hot spot from a young talented chef, Mallory Gabsi.

Chef Ariana Bundy

ARIANA’S KITCHEN

Where would you love to eat this summer? This summer, all I want is to savour fresh seasonal dishes in Iran. Summer in Iran is all about being by the Caspian Sea. As you drive from Tehran on a long treacherous road

carved out of the edge of the mountains, you suddenly see the vibrant blue coastline. You leave the dry city air behind and arrive at a completely different microclimate. Everything suddenly becomes greener, from the lush rice paddies to the olive and orange orchards. Here, life slows down and everything is more vibrant and tastier. Grilled fish stuffed with wild forest plums and local walnuts with a squeeze of Narenj (Valencia orange), olives macerating in pomegranate molasses and unusual fragrant herbs, smoked rice dotted with creamy butter and saffron. Naps are always long and delicious after

such meals, and almost always followed by something sweet such as sour cherries sprinkled with hogweed powder or rice cookies with poppy seeds and rosewater… washed down by hot freshly brewed samovar tea from nearby tea plantations. The perfect summer escape, for me.

Chef Adriano Cattaneo LE PETITE MAISON RESTAURANT & BAR

Where would you love to eat this summer? I would love to go back to Restaurant La Vague d'Or in Cheval Blanc SaintTropez, where Chef Arnaud Donckele serves traditional Mediterranean high cuisine. The restaurant’s location overlooking the city makes it a perfect option for an al fresco summer dinner. Or go to Paris to have the truffle and foie gras macaroni from Nomicos restaurant, both a comfort food and a guilty pleasure!

Chef Burcu Cracknell JOSETTE

Where would you love to eat this summer? My favourite restaurant in Dubai for summertime is Alici. You get a beautiful view of Dubai Marina skyline and the freshest seafood in the city. Although it is a concept from South of Italy, it reminds me of my childhood when I spent the summer in Bodrum. Feels like home away from home. The colours and the hand-made potteries recall that simple marine lifestyle, also typical of my country. One of my favourite dishes is homemade fusilli with tuna. My grandmother used to make a similar pasta when we came back from the beach.

DINNER BY HESTON BLUMENTHAL

Where would you love to eat this summer? I would love to eat at a little restaurant in the UK. It’s in Dorset in Lyme Regis, and it’s called Hix Oyster and Fish House. It’s one of my favourite restaurants to go to. It’s not technical, but it’s tasty

food in the most beautiful location. It’s situated on the hillside overlooking the harbour and Cobb and the view is just magnificent. Whenever I go, I’m always with my family, either my wife and my two daughters, or my parents, so it has that emotional connection as well. Every

time I go, I have the same thing, which is a whole cooked crab, chips with mayonnaise and homemade sourdough with lots of salted butter. I get the little tweezers and I pick all the crab meat out from the claws. And I always have a local Somerset cider that they serve in a little

locally handmade terracotta beaker, which is also charming. It never disappoints from an experience point of view.

Chef Iker Zapata

Errasti TAGOMAGO

Where would you love to eat this summer? This summer I would like to go eat at Mimi Kakushi. And, of course, I will order the baked bone marrow, beef tartare with pickled onion and fried buns. This small dish has an incredible combination of flavours and tastes, balanced to perfection. All topped off with the texture and slight sweetness of the fried buns.
