TRIED & TESTED

When we think of mixology, a barman and a drinks shaker usually spring to mind. But Oo La Lab focuses on a different type of mixology – the art of fragrance design. So, it’s a perfume making class? Yes, exactly. The Chemistry of Oo workshop is a step-by-step guide to scent making. Apart from mixing fragrances together, what will I learn? It all starts with an introduction where you’ll learn how personality matches scent, and how it can make or break a first impression. Then you’ll discover the 27 different notes to choose from, and the three layers that make up a fragrance. Great… but when do I make my own perfume? After you’ve got a grasp of the basics, you’ll have the opportunity to trial a few combinations based on your preferences. Et voila! You should have your very own signature scent. Do I get to keep it? Absolutely! Give it a name and take away either a 20ml or 50ml bottle of your very own masterpiece. Good scents Create your very own eau de parfum at Oo La Lab

Scent can affect your mood… Our human sense of smell is processed in the same part of our brain as our centres for memory and emotion. Thus scent and emotion are deeply connected, with research showing that our sense of smell can elevate mood by over 70 per cent. It’s linked to personality… Scent is deeply personal. Where we grow up, the foods, weather and culture we are part of, deeply affect our taste in, and our expression, of perfume. You might be surprised to learn… We still don’t know 100 per cent how it works! There are two competing theories with neither telling the full story. A good perfume is all about… Selection and balance of the ingredients. A strong connection between design intent and creative outcome. My top tip is… Go with your gut and follow your nose! a Alserkal Avenue, Dhs320 for a 60-minute workshop and a 20ml bottle, or Dhs470 for 50ml. oola-lab.com
