WHERE ADVENTURE BEGINS Summer 2013 Aquatics & Camp Program Guide 1
ADVENTURE BEGINS HERE Make it an adventure this summer! Children can learn, grow and thrive through the fun, and excitement of aquatics, day camps and specialty camps at the Mottino Family YMCA. In the midst of all the fun, they will try new activities, gain independence and make new friends. At the Y we teach acceptance, gratitude, and team work. Each child will use their new found skills to try different activities in a safe environment with positive adult role models. At the Mottino Family YMCA we integrate our core values through programs that promote youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Plan your summer at the Mottino Family YMCA and experience the excitement that the Y has to offer.

AQUATIC STANDARDS
holding standards in place so you know what to expect PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT
PARTICIPANT/STAFF RATIOS The following ratios are implemented for our YMCA Aquatic Programs: Parent/Child Classes Preschool Classes Polliwogs & Guppies Minnows Fish and Flying Fish Adult Instructional Classes
We encourage parents to take time after class to talk positively about your child’s aquatic experience. Practice during family or open swim time helps to reinforce skills learned during lessons. Parents are asked to always remain in the lounge chair area during class time. This promotes the child’s independence, and she/he will focus on the task at hand. Please help assist our aquatics programs by filling out a course evaluation. Course evaluations are available on the pool deck on the last day of class. We appreciate your time and input!

PARENT INFORMATION Helpful Tips: DO NOT feed your child for at least 30 minutes prior to their swim lesson. This will help prevent cramping and sickness during lessons. ● Goggles are not a requirement unless they are at the level of stroke work and swimming at distances further than 10 feet at a time. If your child is more comfortable with goggles in the water we recommend goggles without the nose piece to ensure your child will learn appropriate breathing techniques.
● Hair should be pulled back and away from the face.
● Wet suits and rash guards can be beneficial for children that tend to get cold. We keep our pool heated to 82 degrees year-round.

SPECIAL NEEDS/ INCLUSION The Joe and Mary Mottino Family YMCA tries to accommodate all campers into our programs. Accommodations for your child will depend on availability, what camps are best suited for your child and your child’s needs and the Y’s resources. Due to high demand and our commitment to serving as many campers as possible, the number of weeks for one-on-one assistance per camper are limited. An inclusion intake form must be filled out and submitted to the camp department prior to registration. Evaluation of registration materials takes approximately two weeks to process. Inclusion Intake Forms can be found on our website or at the Service Center. Our Inclusion Program is made possible by generous donations to our Annual Support Campaign.
