2020 Partnership Opportunities

GET TO KNOW MBOSC Mountain Bikers of Santa Cruz (MBOSC) was founded in 1997 to support, preserve, and expand trail access and responsible mountain biking in Santa Cruz County and has since become a highly skilled trail stewardship organization with expertise in advocacy, trail and bike park design, construction and maintenance, and project funding. We are driven by passionate volunteers and high-caliber professional staff who promote legal and sustainable mountain bike access through trail building, hosting races and events, and collaborating throughout the county. We are focused on furthering our mission to make Santa Cruz the best place to be a trail user. With more opportunities to expand mountain bike access in the county than at any point in history, MBOSC is planning for how we can best grow to capitalize on these opportunities.

Our Mission MBOSC was founded in 1997 to support, preserve, and expand trail access and responsible mountain biking in the Santa Cruz area.

Our Vision We envision Santa Cruz County becoming the model for sustainable trail systems, community stewardship, and land manager partnerships, by design, construction, and maintenance, through community collaboration, partnerships, and world-class events.

Racer Quote: “I’ve spent my entire life in Santa Cruz, so I’ve seen great new trails get built over the years thanks to MBOSC. In addition to building some of the best trails, they’re creating a strong bike culture through their awesome races and events. OLD CABIN CLASSIC MBOSC is proud to present the fifth annual Santa Cruz Old Cabin Classic at Wilder Ranch. This cross country mountain bike race offers a festival vibe, featuring a vendor expo area complete with beer garden, kids rodeo, local artist showcase, live music, and gourmet food. The race is held as a benefit for Wilder Ranch State Park, and proceeds go directly into a fund earmarked for trail development. Last year MBOSC was able to design and build the new West Engelsmans Reroute with help from funds raised. MBOSC and California State Parks look forward to building more trails with support from this race.

Racer Quote: “The first ever Old Growth Classic delivered wicked dirt ups, downs, and even some sideways with a Big Basin camping party at the finish. Thank you to the Mountain Bikers of Santa Cruz staff and volunteers for absolutely killing it on the first try. That event was perfectly organized, and I’ll be back next year.” RYAN RINN WINNER OF THE 2018 MEN’S 30-39 CATEGORY

OLD GROWTH CLASSIC Now entering its third year, the Old Growth Classic has become a staple event in the gravel racing scene. It was the first bike race ever held in Big Basin Redwoods State Park, the oldest California State Park. Folks drive from all over the country to join us for a weekend filled with gravel racing, camping, great food, fun music, tasty drinks, and a downright amazing community of good people. This event is held as a benefit for State Parks, who are great supporters and partners in the success of Old Growth Classic. We are excited to bring the good times back in 2020.

IN 2019,

MBOSC AVERAGED 1 COMMUNITY EVENT PER MONTH, WITH 450 AVERAGE PARTICIPANTS AT EACH, AND RAISED UP TO $20,000 FOR TRAILS IN ONE SINGLE NIGHT

Attendee Quote: “The pictures of runners, equestrians and wild animals emphasized that this was all about our trails and forests, not just about bikes. And the fact that the raffle prize donors were more than just the usual bike and coffee and beer companies shows that MBOSC is diversifying in that area as well.” ANONYMOUS TRAIL VISION AWARDS ATTENDEE

COMMUNITY EVENTS Community Events are your opportunity to do something unique that represents your brand while connecting with a passionate audience. We have partnered with some great local businesses on incredible community events that brought people together while raising awareness of the work MBOSC is doing. There are a lot of ways we can approach this, so let’s discuss ideas if you’re interested.

EVENTS WE CAN PARTNER ON: • Trail Vision Awards - a photo and video contest set on trails in Santa Cruz • Movie screenings and educational lectures (like our Mountain Lion lecture in 2019) • Pumptrack Jams around the county to raise money for pumptracks • Super Swap, a bicycle swap meet • MTB to Work Day, twice a year
