2019 BUCCANEER FOOTBALL SCHEDULE

A welcome from... head coach Duane Stoeckle

Aug. 30 – FAIRMONT SENIOR, 7

Dear Buccaneer Fans,

p.m.

Buckhannon-Upshur football has a rich history of hard work, integrity, and tradition. It is an honor and privilege to be the head football coach at B-UHS. It is my promise to you that we will preserve B-U’s great tradition as we seek to add our own moments to the legacy of Buccaneer football.

Sept. 6 – at Ripley, 7:30 p.m. Sept. 13 – at Philip Barbour, 7 p.m. Sept. 20 – Open Week Sept. 27 – at Greenbrier East, 7:30 p.m. Oct. 4 – JOHN MARSHALL (Homecoming), 7 p.m. Oct. 11 –LEWIS COUNTY, 7 p.m. Oct. 18 – UNIVERSITY (Hall of Fame Night), 7 p.m. Oct 25 – at Brooke, 7:30 p.m. Nov. 1 – PRESTON (Senior Night), 7:30 p.m. Nov. 8 – at Elkins, 7 p.m.

It is important to remember that nothing great is accomplished without team work. Our players and coaches need our B-U fans to help us achieve our goal for this season. Our motto for this year was chosen by our senior class. It is “No Excuses-Win the Next Play”. If we don’t make excuses, and we concentrate on winning the next play, we will be successful. I want to thank my family, assistant coaches (and their families), the players and their parents, our boosters, band, cheerleaders, administration, and the community for the continued support of our program. It takes all of us working together to take our program to the level of success we strive for it to be. Finally, I would like to address the student body. We ask that you be loud and proud and serve as our 12th man each Friday night. Help give the Buccaneers a true home field advantage It’s time to raise the Jolly Roger! Enjoy the game!

— Head Coach Duane Stoeckle

Fairmont Senior, John Marshall join Buckhannon-Upshur schedule

TENNERTON – Following a six-game home schedule last year, the Buckhannon-Upshur Buccaneers are back to the normal five home games, five away games for the 2019 season. The Bucs will also have two new opponents for the upcoming season. Defending Class AA champion Fairmont Senior will replace Bridgeport as a Big 10 Conference foe while John Marshall will take the place of Princeton. The Fairmont Senior/Bridgeport swap is predicated by the Big 10 Conference which mandates a rotation of opponents every two years while John Marshall replaces Princeton after Princeton did not want to renew the series with the Bucs. “We will always be one or the other with Bridgeport and Fairmont Senior,” noted Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Duane Stoeckle. “So this year and next year will be Fairmont Senior on our schedule then Bridgeport will come back in 2022.” The Bucs open with Fairmont Senior this Friday. The Bucs won’t have a home game in September as they take to the road for three straight weeks traveling to Ripley (Sept. 6), Philip Barbour (Sept. 13), and following the bye week, a trip to Greenbrier East (Sept. 27). “We still have some long trips in there again this season, no doubt about it.” noted Stoeckle about the visits to Ripley and Greenbrier East. The Bucs will then return home for three straight to start off October against John Marshall (Oct. 5 and homecoming), and then against Lewis County (Oct. 11) and University (Oct. 18). They will then hit the road again for another long trip to Wellsburg to face Brooke (Oct. 25) before having Senior Day at home on Nov. 1 against Preston. The Bucs will close out their season Nov. 8 at Elkins. “I think our schedule is a pretty fair schedule,” remarked Stoeckle. “We have some pretty good Class AAA teams on it then some Class AA rivalry games on it with Lewis County, Philip Barbour and Elkins. If we take care of business, I feel this schedule can get us to the number of wins that it takes to get into the playoffs.” The Bucs will have five Big 10 Conference games – Fairmont Senior, Philip Barbour, Lewis County, Preston and Elkins while the five non-conference games will feature Ripley, Greenbrier East, John Marshall, University and Brooke.
