IN AND OUT OF ASPEN - Aspen/Snowmass is offering 22 daily flights to Aspen’s Pitkin County Airport with additional flights scheduled on weekends. United Airlines, through its regional partner, SkyWest Airlines, has currently scheduled 11 flights a day to Aspen from Denver. United is also offering two flights daily to Aspen from Chicago and three flights from Los Angeles. The airline has also added two flights to Aspen from San Francisco on Saturdays. NEW THIS WINTER - Frontier Airlines has five non-stop flights a day scheduled from Denver on Bombardier Q400 regional aircraft. Beginning December 20, Delta Connection carrier SkyWest Airlines will operate new seasonal flights from Atlanta to Aspen using the Bombardier CRJ 700 aircraft. Delta is the only airline to offer nonstop service from the east coast and provides convenient connecting service from around the world to Aspen/Snowmass.

Newly remodeled Ajax Tavern will again take its place as town’s top après-ski spot, as well as once again open its doors for dinner. Montagna chef Ryan Hardy will oversee the menu, which offers American-French bistro fare including house-cured salumi, country terrine, black skillet-roasted clams, seared sea scallops, crisp roasted organic chicken and daily specials. Buenos Aires Grille moved into the Blue Maize space and owner Francis Carrera is serving homemade empanadas along with bacon-wrapped figs in sweet-spicy BBQ sauce, Lomo al Champignon, Vacio and Entrana from the grill and Parrillada Argentina, a mixed grill of chorizo, sweetbreads, beef ribs and other meats. The Crystal Palace Grille in the historic Crystal Palace Theatre features the same décor as the original Crystal Palace as well as hearty, stick-to-your-ribs cuisine. Social, opened by the owners of Elevation, offers global tapas and small plates meant for sharing. Sabra’s Middle Easern Delicatessan by Clark’s Market has become a popular lunch spot for tasty Baba Ganoush, Tabouleh, Falafel and Chawarma sandwiches and Schnitzel, Kebab and Falafel plates. The Aspen Brewery and Tasting Toom steps up as the place for microbrews made on-site. Sip them there, or take a growler to go. Renowned Italian restaurant Il mulino new York is opening in the new Residences at The Little Nell this ski season.
Also, watch for French bistro-style Brexi to open this winter in the Dancing Bear Aspen. The restaurant will be the fourth for owners Craig and Samantha Cordts-Pearce, who also have LuLu Wilson and The Wild Fig. In February, Junk at the Red Onion will reopen under the ownership of Scott DeGraff of the N9NE Group. The refurbished Red Onion space showcases the original bar and returns to its roots as an upscale steakhouse.

Things are cookin’ at a batch of new eateries. Stop in Sneaky’s Tavern at the base area for après-ski at the indoor-outdoor bar, as well as American bistro-style dishes like burgers and mac 'n cheese. Buchi goes upscale, offering “Coastal South American and Japanese Food,” including everything from sushi rolls to Kobe beef burgers, and sake, too. In the new Base Village. The Sweet Life rocks as a 1950s-style diner upstairs and a creamery parlor and candy store downstairs, featuring homemade ice cream with fresh ingredients and no preservatives. In the new Base Village. Junk plans on redefining fast food. “Good Junk, Bad Junk (the only Junk your mom will let you eat)” may be the eatery’s tag line, yet its natural and organic ingredients smack of something a bit better for you. Snowmass’ Base Village will include 2.8 million square feet of hotels, condos, restaurants and shops and will have basicly little competition, since Related Westpac and its partner, local developer Pat Smith, own nearly all of the commercial land in Snowmass. "When you have a wealthy consumer who wants to be in Snowmass and you are supply-constrained, those are good economics for new development," said Related President Jeff Blau, a part-time Aspen resident.

The two flagship condo hotel projects in the Base Village’s first phase will be managed by Kor Hotel Group's Viceroy Hotels & Resorts boutique-hotel chain and Aspen Skiing Co.’s five-star Little Nell hotel. Viceroy and The Nell are moving full speed ahead with no changes for completion and delivery dates.
