Mountain View Celebrates
43rd Annual Art & Wine Festival ‘Wine Haven’ Premium Wine Tasting Tent Debuts at the Event he Mountain View Art & Wine Festival returns for its 43rd year on Sept. 6 and 7, and includes a fresh feature: a new premium winetasting pavilion, “Wine Haven, Taste of the Mountains Passport Days.” The festival will also feature handcrafted work by 600 top artists and craftmakers, live music on stage and street throughout downtown, plus the return of mega-hit “Salsa Sunday.” There will be a range of food and drink, home and garden exhibits, health and wellness displays, and fun for kids with bungee jumping and roll-on-water “waterballerz.” The art festival, presented by the Chamber of Commerce Mountain View, takes place on Castro Street from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days. Admission is free. The event provides a consistent stream of revenue that helps fund Chamber programs throughout the year. Proceeds are invested in programs that help strengthen and bring together Mountain View’s diverse community. Among the programs sponsored by the Chamber are Yipee (Young Innovative Professional Entrepreneurs Etc); SOAR, a mentorship/internship program; Business ConneXions; and Leadership Mountain View.
T
WINE HAVEN The new Wine Haven, presented by the Santa Cruz Mountains Winegrowers Association, will be open noon to 5 p.m. both days. Wine lovers can taste wine from premier Santa Cruz Mountains Vintners including Domenico, Cinnabar, SavannahChannelle, Loma Prieta and The Mountain Winery, and all of the sampled wines and cheeses will be available for sale as well.
TWO DAYS OF MUSIC Thirteen bands will play a wide-ranging musical mix — pulsating salsa, Motown, rhythm and blues, contemporary country, classic rock ‘n roll, jazz, soul, world-beat, Americana, Latin rock, disco and party music — on the Civic Center Plaza Music Stage and multiple street locations.
ARTS AND CR AFTS BOOTHS Professional artists and craftmakers will showcase their extraordinary work. Shoppers will find thousands of handcrafted items while browsing among 600 booths featuring original work in glass, ceramics, metals, fiber, leather, wood, jewelry, and fine art, stained and beveled glass, etchings, sculptures, photography, oil and watercolor paintings, gold and silver jewelry, vests, handbags, hats, and more will be among the thousands of one-of-a-kind items available.
FESTIVE FOOD Festival eateries will be dishing up a world of flavorful fare — fresh corn-on-the-cob, paella, patatas bravas, croquetas, tri-tip, beef brisket and pulled pork sandwiches, Teriyaki chicken and vegetables, barbecue chicken and pork skewers, chicken wraps, gourmet sausages, chicken wings, pizza, garlic chicken sandwiches, Parmesansprinkled garlic fries, smoked turkey legs, zesty fried calamari, baked potatoes, bacon-wrapped hot dogs, made-to-order crepes, chocolate-dipped fruit kabobs, ice cream, fresh fruit smoothies, root beer floats, fresh-squeezed lemonade, kettle corn and more. And for foodies, there will be a range of specialty food to sample and buy, as well as the opportunity to chat with the producers.
TO QUENCH THE THIRST Complementing the food will be premium wines, seasonal microbrews, margaritas, mimosas and sangria. The brewmasters at
Tied House will be offering their flagship Cascade Amber plus a batch of a California Common as this year’s special festival brew. Cool off with a Honey Green Tea, Unsweet Lemon Tea or Pomegranate Blueberry Ade from Honest Tea. Plus, Zico Pure Premium Coconut Water, bottled water and soft drinks will be available — all to raise funds for Leadership Mountain View (LMV), one of the Chamber of Commerce Mountain View’s many programs.
COMMUNITY STAGE & KIDS’ PARK A Kids’ Park will keep youngsters happy with bungee jumping, waterballerz, Mobile Rock’s climbing wall, temporary tattoos, face painting and body art, hula hooping, carnival rides and more. The INTUIT Community Stage will feature an array of young performers in a “Mountain View’s Got Talent” style showcase.
