ADULT STUDENTS Can I work and go to school?
What about work or family pressures?
Most adult students at MAC do both. The faculty and staff here will work with you in all aspects of collegiate life.
Our professors understand that adult students must balance school with their other responsibilities. If a conflict with family or work arises, contact your professor as soon as possible. All students are expected to attend classes and complete every assignment.
Can I afford MAC? Mount Aloysius College is very affordable. Our tuition and fees are deliberately lower than other quality private colleges and our bottom line cost of attending is often on par with public colleges and universities.
Can I get financial aid? If you are a full-time student (an undergraduate taking 12 or more credits or a graduate student taking nine or more credits), you may apply for full financial aid. About 98% of our full-time students receive scholarships and financial aid. The average aid package is based on grants and scholarships and is approximately $12,000. To learn more, contact the Financial Aid Office at 814-886-6357 or toll free 888-823-2220. Apply early for financial aid. Look into tuition reimbursement from your employer, too.
Can I take classes online? To give our students additional scheduling flexibility, MAC offers some of our most popular classes online.
Can I go to school in the evenings? Mount Aloysius College offers a variety of courses in the day and evening. Certain courses are only offered during the day and most students eventually come to school during the day to complete their degree.
How soon can I get started? You can start at the beginning of the next academic term – Fall, Spring or Summer semesters. Visit www.mtaloy.edu for exact dates.
Can I visit Mount Aloysius College? Please do! Nothing can replace an in-person visit to our beautiful campus. You can tour our campus, meet faculty and students, and get a feel for the MAC environment. We’ll even waive the application fee if you apply while you’re here. To schedule your visit to MAC, please contact us at 814-886-6383, 888-823-2220, or admissions@mtaloy.edu.
Will there be students my age at MAC? In recent years, adult students have ranged in age from 19 to 80.
Mount Aloysius College is highly regarded among our peer institutions.
Who’s watching the kids?
U.S. News & World Report lists Mount Aloysius as:
Cambria County Child Development Corp. offers safe, convenient, educational and affordable child care – right on campus – with hours that accommodate class schedules. Children aged two to five are welcome. Space is limited, so contact the Childcare Center at 814-886-6456 for more information.
• One of the top comprehensive colleges in the Northeast. • One of the lowest-cost private, four-year, comprehensive institutions in the Northeast. • Graduating students with the least amount of average debt in the Northeast.
TRANSFER STUDENTS How many credits can I transfer? For a bachelor’s degree, you can transfer up to 90 credits. For an associate’s degree, you can transfer up to 40 credits.
What courses are transferable? Courses completed at regionally accredited institutions that are applicable to your major will transfer. Credits from selected nationally accredited institutions and the military will also transfer.
How can I find out which courses will transfer? Contact us at admissions@mtaloy.edu, 814-886-6383, or toll-free at 888-823-2220. A counselor will be happy to review your specific situation, either by phone or inperson.
What if I have my associate’s degree? In most cases, if you have an associate’s degree and are pursuing a bachelor’s degree in the same field of study, you enter MAC with junior standing.
Does MAC enroll many transfer students each year? We do! About 200 new students transfer to MAC each year. These students come to MAC for our great range of career-centric majors, personal attention, excellent facilities, and Mercy values.
Does MAC have any agreements with colleges and universities to transfer in credits? We have articulation agreements with colleges, business schools, and nursing schools throughout Pennsylvania. If you received an associate’s degree or RN diploma (for nurses), you may enter Mount Aloysius College with junior standing.
Can I get scholarships? Sure! There are even scholarship opportunities specifically for transfer students, with awards from $2,000 to $5,000 a year. MAC also participates in all federal and state financial aid programs. 94% of our full-time students receive scholarships and financial aid. The average aid package is based on grants and scholarships and is approximately $10,000.
What is the minimum grade required for a class to transfer? A C grade or better is required for a class to transfer into MAC. We do not accept C grades or lower, or courses that were completed pass/fail.
Do credits have an expiration? Many liberal arts courses have no time limit. Courses in the sciences and computer sciences must have been completed no more than seven years ago.
When will I know that my credits are transferring? Our transfer counselors can do an unofficial transfer evaluation when you visit the College, or we can send a transfer evaluation with your acceptance letter. Official transfer evaluations are released promptly from the Office of Undergraduate and Graduate Admissions.
Can I attend as a part-time student? You can; although, we encourage students to go full-time (at least 12 credits per semester). Financial aid and scholarship programs for full-time students are more numerous and more generous. Students who attend full-time typically finish their degree faster, and can enter the career market more quickly.
Do transfer students have the opportunity to do internships? Yes! Many of our degree programs include internships or other practical out-ofclassroom experiences as part of the curriculum.
Do you accept CLEP exams? Yes. Mount Aloysius College does not offer the CLEP exam, but we can help you find a college or university that does.
When can I transfer? At the start of fall, spring, or summer terms. Visit www.mtaloy.edu for exact dates.
