LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT It is my great honor and privilege to be able to call Mount Dora Christian Academy and Children’s Home my home. What an amazing first few months it has been serving as the 6th president! I knew, prior to arriving, that Mount Dora Christian Academy was a special place, but I have now experienced firsthand the passion, dedication, and love our students receive daily from a fine faculty, staff, and administration. Likewise, our faculty, staff, and administration feel love, compassion, and a wonderful spirit of energy from our students and families. I have enjoyed watching students compete athletically, participate in plays and musical productions, and produce outstanding work academically. What joy and pride I feel as I watch our teachers interact with students, and then see students respond to the instruction and coaching they have received.

The MDCA&CH community is alive and well, and I encourage you to jump in and learn how you can best serve with us. There are a number of ways to serve at MDCA and MDCH! We would love to have you help by mentoring in our single parent program, tutoring, donating, and engaging in events which take place on campus almost nightly. MDCA&CH is working diligently to be the hands and feet of Jesus each day as we walk with students and families at the school and home. Colossians 3:17 states, “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” At MDCA&CH, we give God the glory for all that we have and for the many rich blessings bestowed upon us. God is good! I have enjoyed meeting many of you at various events at the school and in the community. For those of you whom I have yet to meet, I look forward to becoming acquainted with you very soon. Thank you so much for the warm welcome and for making me feel as if I have been a member of this incredible community for years! I look forward to serving the MDCA&CH community for years to come. DEVELOPMENT The Joy of Giving Tim Deem, Vice President of Development Consider this question: What would you do if your financial advisor died and left all of your money to his children? That wouldn’t sit too well with you, would it? But think about this for a minute; if our wealth really belongs to God, and we are His money managers, what makes us think that when we die it should all go to our children? When people talk about leaving a large inheritance to their adult children, I ask them if those children really need more money. Nearly always they reply, “No.” Then I’ll ask, “Since they don’t need it, what do you hope your children will do with the money you leave them?” Invariably they will reply with sentiments like, “Well, it would be great if they gave it away to missions and helping the poor.” I’ll respond, “But since God has entrusted His money to you, and since giving it away is what you believe is right, then why don’t you give it away instead of hoping that they will?” Many people have expressed shock when they’ve heard me say that Christian parents should seriously consider leaving the bulk of their estate to churches, missions, ministries, and other Kingdom purposes. That advice comes from not only studying scripture, but also from observing what happens when large inheritances are passed on to those who did nothing to earn them. That’s why Jesus answered this questioner as he did: “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.” . . . then Jesus warns him, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions” (Luke 12: 13, 15, NIV). Wouldn’t it be fitting for most of us to leave the greatest bulk of our estates to helping the poor, needy, disabled, and oppressed and to evangelize and disciple people all over the world? As God’s money managers, it’s one of the best investments we could ever make! Support MDCH Residents by attending a Benefit Dinner Attending a regional benefit dinner is a great way to learn more about Mount Dora Children’s Home and show your support! At a typical dinner, you can visit with employees and residents from the Home, hear talks about what’s new at MDCH, enjoy a wonderful meal, and have a chance to make a donation to the Children’s Home. During 2019, the Children’s Home hosted regional fundraising dinners in Sarasota, Jacksonville, Tampa, Pensacola, and Tallahassee, FL, Montgomery, AL, and Nashville, TN. The annual Tampa dinner features a silent auction that adds to the fun and excitement. Several regional benefit dinners have been impacted by COVID-19. We will keep you informed as plans are updated with specific dates and locations. We need more churches and volunteers to help promote benefit dinners! Boyd Dinner features Boston Marathon Bombing Survivor Guests who attended the 38th Annual Boyd Scholarship Dinner on Saturday, February 8, heard an inspiring message of hope from special guest speaker Rebekah Gregory, president of Rebekah’s Angels Foundation and a proud MDCA mom. Rebekah was severely injured in the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013 and since has become a nationally recognized speaker and author, sharing her story of recovery and encouraging others to turn their life’s obstacles into opportunities, with a book titled Taking My Life Back and a podcast called “The Rebekah Gregory Show: Finding Joy On My Last Leg”. Rebekah and her husband Chris have two children at MDCA – Noah, who is in middle school, and Ryleigh, who is in preschool.

Over the years, the annual Boyd Scholarship Dinner has provided financial assistance to more than 600 deserving MDCA students. This year’s annual quilt auction and silent auction together raised an additional $6,500. Donations for the fund are accepted at any time. 5th Annual Distinguished Speaker Series with Special Guest Mike Huckabee Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee brought a blend of faith, humor, and southern charm to the 5th Annual Distinguished Speaker Series at Mount Dora Christian Academy (held this year on Saturday, March 7, 2020). Each year, the Distinguished Speaker Series brings a prominent and successful speaker to MDCA who has a motivating story to share. Speaking to a crowd of about 700 in the Brackett Gymnasium, Huckabee extolled the virtues of Christian education in today’s society. He rarely delved into the subject of politics, but when he did, the audience responded with applause – especially those involving his daughter, Sarah Huckabee-Sanders, the former Press Secretary for President Trump.

The majority of his talk centered on faith, family values, and the importance of developing strong Christian leaders for the next generation. He pointed out on several occasions how impressed he was with our campus and status in the community. After his speech, Dr. Brian Mast presented Huckabee with an MDCA lapel pin as a token of appreciation for his influence as a minister, politician, and advocate for children. Before the event, the former Arkansas governor and presidential candidate met with sponsors and VIPs for personal photos and conversations in the MDCA Dining Hall. Proceeds raised from the 2020 event benefited the Athletic Fund at MDCA, including the new Bulldog Stadium. Prior speakers in the series are Tim Tebow, Bobby Bowden, Lou Holtz, and Willie Robertson. Watch for next year’s speaker to be announced in the near future! 

SOCIAL SERVICES Food Drives Help Support MDCH Residents Many churches in Florida and Alabama help keep operating costs low at Mount Dora Children’s Home by participating in one of the four annual food and supply drives. The food, paper goods, and toiletries collected on the drives support the needs of the dorms and single-parent families. The two food drives so far this year involved churches in the Greater Jacksonville and Northeast Florida region, and churches in Greater Miami and Southeast Florida. Two more drives are scheduled for later this year in the Florida Panhandle and Alabama, and in the Greater Tampa Bay area and Southwest Florida. If your church would like to participate in a food drive, please contact Chuck Shepherd, Director of Social Services, at 352-383-9906. 

Single Mom Gets Certificate & Enters Workforce Single mom Ashlee Gainey recently completed training to become a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant. Upon graduation, she had a full-time job waiting for her at a large doctors’ clinic in Leesburg. Ashlee also recently shared her story at the Mount Dora Chamber of Commerce 2020 Dinner. Ashlee has a three-year-old daughter, Iris, who is enrolled in MDCA’s preschool program. We’re all proud of Ashlee and the progress she’s made in the two years since joining the SingleParent Program at Mount Dora Children’s Home. 

Small Church Gives Big to MDCH LaBelle Church of Christ has done it again. For the past few years, this small church in Southwest Florida has been the largest contributor to the Change for Children coin can drive at Mount Dora Children’s Home. Much of the thanks goes to the minister, Steve Hildebrand, who gives the church a tall challenge each year and does it with a sense of humor. This year, Steve promised to let the church give him a buzz haircut if they raised at least $7,000. They raised $7,110, and you can see Steve’s new hairdo in these photos! Our thanks to Steve and all the members at LaBelle Church of Christ! The Single Parent Program Has Its First-Ever Homebuyer! The dream of homeownership has come true for a singleparent family at Mount Dora Children’s Home. In fact, Kim Johnson is the first participant in the history of the Single Parent Program to purchase her own home after completion of the program. “I feel like all of my hard work is finally paying off,” Kim said. “It means the world to me to have my own new home. I am the first person in my family to own a home built from the ground up.” Kim, along with children Se’Niah Banks, a freshman at MDCA, and George, a 5th grader at Triangle Elementary School, moved into a newly built home this spring just south of Mount Dora. This accomplishment didn’t happen without a lot of determination and perseverance on Kim’s part, plus some encouragement from MDCH. Among other requirements for her home mortgage, Kim had to get her financials in order. The USDA mortgage loan program she used required a minimum credit score of 645. “Being in the Single Parent Program, I worked very hard to get my credit score where it needed to be,” Kim said. “I raised it from 453 to the 700s.” Kim worked through a Florida-based program called Homes in Partnership that helps low-income families purchase newly built and affordable housing. In addition to financial assistance, the program offers a training class for new homeowners that covers such basics as home maintenance, insurance, and bill paying. Kim credits the Single Parent Program with helping her create a better future for herself and her children.

“It has given me peace of mind, and when you have peace of mind, you can accomplish so much,” Kim said. “It’s given me peace of mind because I don’t have to worry about how I’m going to pay the rent, and I don’t have to worry about how I’m going to pay the utility bills. I can focus on my children and on getting my credit together.” Kim’s career future also looks bright. She earned her certification as an early childhood teacher while in the program and is now teaching early Headstart classes for preschoolers at Episcopal Children’s Services. She credits the Social Services team at MDCH with giving her guidance and encouragement, including “tough love” when needed. She also says having a network of other single moms in the program has been a blessing. Kim’s son, George, has special needs that require him to attend a public school, but Kim’s daughter, Se’Niah, has excelled at MDCA. She is taking all honors classes and is enrolled in the Academy’s new Biomedical Sciences Institute. She is the only freshman on the school’s varsity cheer squad. “The program has been a real blessing to me. I wish this was a program that could be offered everywhere. I feel blessed – truly, truly blessed.”  Imagine Magazine Spring 2020 | 7

As a change to our usual firefighter visit, this year the firefighters came to visit the preschool! Former MDCA student Robert Bridgeman, who is now a Mount Dora firefighter, taught Mrs. Sexton’s class about fire safety.  Hunter Mabry has trained in karate for three years at Central Florida Karate and is a blue belt. He qualified and was invited to compete in the ISKA World Championships this summer on Team USA! Way to go, Hunter! 

MDCA Student Accepted to West Point Dylan Van Note, a senior at MDCA, finally received the news that he had been waiting on for months. Congressman Daniel Webster called Dylan to inform him that he had been accepted to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point! With a 9.6% acceptance rate, it is very difficult to get into West Point. Applicants must pass their physical fitness requirements, have above-average records, and obtain a nomination from either a U.S. Representative, Senator, the Vice President, or President. Baseball Coach Jason Sanders stated, “While I have only been around Dylan for little less than a year, it’s been amazing to witness his work ethic, his leadership abilities, and his competitiveness. He is a young man that instantly brings out the best in those around him. When you think of our great country and the liberties and freedoms that we enjoy, it is very comforting to know that young men and women are helping to defend those liberties and freedoms like Dylan. I can’t wait to see all of the great things he will achieve in the future.” Dylan Van Note is exceptionally involved in academics and extracurriculars at Mount Dora Christian Academy. He is a star player on the baseball team, played on the football team, is a member of the Senior Beta Club, participated in the secondary school play, is the Vice President of the Student Association and was even on the homecoming court this year. He also received the Daughters of the American Revolution National Headquarters Good Citizen Award, which recognizes individuals who possess the qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism to an outstanding degree. Head of School, Lori Hadley says, “Dylan has been an important part of our student body. Dylan has demonstrated the ability to set priorities and make hard choices. As a result, he has earned the respect of the student body and faculty. The caliber of his character and judgment will serve him well as he embarks on this next chapter. His appointment to West Point marks the beginning of what is sure to be a lifetime of public service.” Mount Dora Christian Academy is honored to have such an active and talented student on campus!  8 | Imagine Magazine Spring 2020

Junior/Senior Banquet 2020 This year’s Junior/Senior Banquet took place at the Orlando Science Center, with a theme of “Night at the Museum.” The students and faculty in attendance that night experienced the dinosaur, weather, and earth science exhibit halls on the fourth floor of the Science Center. The Observatory Balcony was also open for the event, allowing beautiful views of downtown Orlando. A talented harpist was hired for the event. Food was catered from 4Rivers, along with nitrogen ice cream, a candy bar, and an espresso bar. With so many things to do, this year’s banquet gave guests the chance to walk around and explore the museum and food at their own pace. The 2020 Banquet King and Queen were Dylan Van Note and Ui Mullen. We also want to thank our wonderful Junior Class sponsors Cheryl Abbate, Robin Leto, Alison Strasser, and Perry Petruccelli for their hard work to make the night one that was fun and memorable for everyone!  Imagine Magazine Spring 2020 | 9

Passing the Torch: Welcoming New President Dr. Brian Mast On December 1st, 2019, Dr. Brian Mast became the sixth President of Mount Dora Christian Academy and Children’s Home (MDCA&CH). Dr. Mast comes to us from Lipscomb University (Nashville, TN), where he most recently served as Associate Provost for Academic Support Services, Director of the Academic Success Center, Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning, and Assistant Professor in the College of Education. With over 15 years of academic leadership, he has served as an Executive Principal at Nashville Public Schools and has teaching experience at both the high school and university level. Some of his achievements include improving retention and graduation rates at Lipscomb University and providing key leadership to the daily operations of the Academic Success Center and Center for Teaching and Learning. His significant leadership experience will be a true benefit to the future positive growth at MDCA&CH. Chairman of the Board of Trustees Mr. John Starling says, “I am confident Dr. Brian Mast will provide strong academic and spiritual leadership to the staff, students, and families at MDCA&CH".

Outgoing President Dr. James Moore says, “I am excited about Dr. Brian Mast being selected as the new President. His extensive background in leading educational institutions has equipped him to lead our organization to new heights of growth and success. He also has a passion for our children’s home and single parent program.” Dr. Brian Mast says, “It is my great pleasure and honor to have been named president of Mount Dora Christian Academy & Children’s Home. It is my desire to continue the tremendous success of the academy and to continue building on the solid foundation that previous president Dr. James Moore laid. The most exciting and important work for me will be working alongside the wonderful students, parents, faculty, staff, and the greater Mount Dora community. I am humbled that God has charged me with leading the wonderful mission of educating students for life and eternity.” Dr. Mast, with his wife Lorri, have a daughter named Ella and a son named Eli. Lorri has served as an educator in Nashville for 20 years. She has a passion for K-12 Education as well as working with single parent families. Lorri was named Teacher of Year at Nashville Public Schools on three different occasions and has served as assistant principal, literary coach, and instructional specialist during her career. Most recently, Lorri is serving as sixth grade writing and grammar teacher at Lipscomb Academy in Tennessee. Lorri and the children will join Dr. Mast at the end of this academic school year. Ella and Eli plan to be actively engaged in academics and athletics at Mount Dora Christian Academy next school year. 

After 30 Years, A Loving Farewell & Happy Retirement To Dr. James Moore! Dr. James Moore became the fifth President of Christian Home and Bible on November 1st, 1990. On that day, Executive Board representative James Jordan said, “The Home and School has had a good record for almost fifty years as we have had only four men to serve as president. We are convinced that the next man will last a long time and will do the best possible job…” That is exactly what he did. Dr. Moore currently holds the record as the longest-serving president and has made a substantial contribution to the strategic direction and infrastructure. Dr. Moore was born and raised in Andalusia, Alabama. After receiving his high school diploma, he enrolled at Alabama Christian College earning his Bachelor’s degree, and later receiving his Master’s degree from Alabama Christian School of Religion in Montgomery, Alabama. He did post-graduate work at the University of Southern Mississippi and has had training in counseling, church leadership, and financial planning. Dr. Moore married the former Shirley Arnold, ‘64 graduate of Christian Home and Bible School. Together, they have two children, Scott and Tonya. Dr. Moore has served churches in Davenport and Mckenzie, Alabama, Natchez, Mississippi, and Orlando, Florida. His leadership roles in these churches included youth minister, minister of education, pulpit minister, and minister of involvement. In Central Florida, he has been director of Spiritual Growth Workshop, now known as the Equip Conference, and the AOK statewide youth rally, now known as Sonquest. Mount Dora Christian Academy and Children’s Home felt like home to him because of the sense of family. “There’s a wonderful sense of family in this place. Home is where the heart is. That sense of family comes from a passionate commitment to our mission, to the children and school families we serve, and to each other. For 75 years, we have been about community and serving. MDCA is a place where we love each other and support one another. We value our relationships and work together for “life and eternity.” One of Dr. Moore’s favorite memories during his time as President is when he went to visit the Early Childhood Center. “I sat down on the floor with a class of three-year-olds. They came up close, listened intently, started patting and hugging me and jumping on me. When I lost my balance, all of them piled on. It was a special moment to remember. Those kids were happy, excited, and having a fun time. I thanked God for their energy and happy faces and for the opportunity that our caring teachers had to love, teach, and nurture them every day. I experienced a special feeling about parents entrusting us with their precious children.” Most of us are familiar with Dr. Moore’s annual chapel speech about prioritizing our time, but he has more advice to share with our current students at MDCA:

FEATURE STORY Put God first. Make God a priority. Live by the Golden Rule. Treat others like you want to be treated. Always give back. Learn the joy and pleasure of giving and serving. Prepare academically. Be serious about your academic preparation. Take the most rigorous courses you can because the world is becoming very competitive. Education is the foundation for achievement. Build character. Be intentional about your character development. Character is even more important than academic preparation. Be a person of honesty, integrity, and dependability. Get a job. Take advantage of every opportunity to be responsible and disciplined in developing your skills and learning about life. It’s important to have a job during your high school and college years. Learn a second language. The most spoken languages of the 21st Century are Chinese, Arabic, Hindi, Spanish, and English. Speaking more than one language will make you more marketable. Take advantage of international travel. Learn about other cultures, living conditions, arts, architecture, and business opportunities. International travel can lift your perspective and inspire new dreams. When asked what his proudest accomplishments are during his time as President, Dr. Moore responded with, “Preserving our Christ-centered mission to be a Christian school and children’s home by keeping Jesus as the center-piece of our organization. We have a firm spiritual purpose. I’m proud of the overall growth and expansion we enjoy in numerous areas: a growing enrollment, stronger academics, state-of-the-art facilities, enhanced fine arts, winning tradition in athletics, and highlyqualified staff. I’m proud of building a sense of excellence that is woven into every fabric of our organization. I'm proud of our community involvement that has helped us to be recognized in the community as a place committed to excellence.” Dr. Moore’s legacy includes doubling enrollment, multiplying graduation rates, growing endowment reserves, increasing the budget and improving the infrastructure. Every building on campus has had renovations. Some older buildings were replaced with new, and new facilities were built across the 70+ acre campus to make it what it is today. Rebranding to Mount Dora Christian Academy & Children’s Home was also part of Dr. Moore’s plan to build a stronger brand. Dr. Moore will continue to serve Mount Dora Christian Academy and Children’s Home as President Emeritus. He still has an office on campus as he works in public relations and community involvement along with donor relations and fundraising. Mount Dora Christian Academy and Children’s Home is extremely thankful for the countless hours and dedication that Dr. Moore has poured into our community.  Imagine Magazine Spring 2020 | 13

ATHLETICS Competitive Cheer Team Becomes 2-Time National Champs! Our Competitive Cheer Team, coached by Mikayla Baker, Allison Lynn, and Marissa Rapp, entered the Christian Cheerleaders of America’s National Competition that took place on March 6 – 8, 2020. The team won the National Championship title for the second year in a row, making them back-to-back champs! CCA also recognized Coach Marissa Rapp for Top National Christian Cheer Coaches In America for 2019-2020. 

A Special Season for Boys Varsity Basketball Team This basketball season was dedicated to Nathan Hayes, the son of Coach Steven Hayes. Nathan passed away as a fourth-grader and this would have been his senior year. In the final minutes of the Nathan Hayes Shootout in January, Coach Hayes put in only four players, the fifth would have been Nathan. “That was the lineup we would’ve used this season,” said Hayes. “It was the ultimate tribute to Nathan.” During the senior night for the team, they each gave a rose to the coach’s wife, Cherie, to honor her son. For the final game of the season against Lake Mary Prep, the Bulldogs wore green “to recognize Nathan’s favorite NBA team, the Boston Celtics.” The boys completed their regular season undefeated 25-0. They also won against Foundation Academy in the District Championship. This team is nothing short of special with the following awards given: FACA District 8, 2A Player Of The Year Rodney Bryant, FACA District 8, 2A All-Academic Player Of The Year Dylan Sword, and FACA District 8, 2A Coach Of The Year Steven Hayes. (Coach Hayes was also voted to be the AllStar coach, but politely declined.) This team reminded all of us that it is about much more than basketball…it’s about remembering Nathan. 

Coach White Named Florida Cross Country Coach of the Year Zach White was named the NFHS Florida Cross Country Coach of the Year for the 2018-2019 school year! Other than Zach’s father’s influence, he has no experience in coaching, yet now, he has two state titles. Zach’s father, Leon White, was a legendary cross country and track and field coach in Arkansas for 40 years. Zach followed in his father’s footsteps and ran for Harding University before coming to teach at MDCA. Zach was nominated by the Florida High School Athletic Association; the honorees were chosen based on their “coaching performance, community involvement, school involvement, and philosophy of coaching.” Gabriel Curtis, who’s now a member of the FSU cross country and track and field team, was a former runner for Coach White and won multiple state championships during his time at MDCA. Curtis says, “He’s still my coach, he will always be my coach…it’s a special bond for sure.” Coach White led the girls cross country team to state finals in 2018; in addition, the boys won Class 1A state championships in 2017 & 2018. At state, the Bulldogs finished second in 2016 and fourth in 2019. His goal is to inspire his athletes to run for something greater. We are honored to have Coach Zach White’s amazing wisdom and leadership on our campus. 

MDCH Resident Receives Softball Scholarship to LSSC Darian Pippin, who lives in the Thompson House at Mount Dora Children’s Home and is a senior at MDCA, has received a full scholarship to play softball at Lake Sumter State College! Darian came to MDCA in 2018 and has been a captain of the team for two years. ACADEMICS Junior Beta Junior Beta (4th-8th grade) was very successful at the Florida State Beta Convention. We are proud to announce that 7th grader Conner Hagerman-Burdignon was inducted as the new State Secretary for Junior Beta Florida and will serve in this position for one year! Beta will send him to a Leadership Camp in Tennessee this summer. Connor currently serves as MDCA’s Junior Beta Club President and is the fourth student from MDCA to hold a State Office in Beta. ACADEMICS Science Fair Lily Atwood placed 1st in Plant Sciences at the MDCA Science Fair, and then placed 1st at the Lake County Regional Science Fair. Her project was "Growth Hormones and Their Effect on Vaccinium Corybosum's Height." She tested two different plant growth hormones to see which was most effective on vaccinium corymbosum (blueberry). She performed multiple trials and took careful measurements and observations. The understanding gained from this experiment could help area farmers as they work to increase the size and yield of their plants. Sadie Davis placed 1st in Environmental Engineering at the MDCA Science Fair and then placed 1st at the Lake County Regional Science Fair. Sadie’s project was "What Recycled Materials Put Into a Concrete Mixture Will Maintain or Strengthen Concrete?" During her experimentation, Sadie added broken glass to a concrete mix to compare its strength to regular concrete. She dropped the concrete from a predetermined height and recorded measurements about the size of the resulting fragments. The understanding gained from this experiment could help people in a third world country turn a ‘waste product’ of broken glass into a building material that will strengthen their concrete block homes when rebar is scarce or unaffordable. Sadie also received a Sustainable Development award, an invitation to compete in the Lockheed Martin Science Challenge, and her project was featured at the Orlando Science Center. Both students were invited to compete in the State Science Fair March 24–26, 2020 at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland, Florida; unfortunately, that competition was cancelled due to the Coronavirus. Two middle school students also placed at the Lake County Regional Science Fair. Fourteen high school students placed at the Lake County Regional Science Fair. We are very proud of these students and our science department faculty. Lake County only advanced four students to State and we are honored to have two of them from MDCA! 

Tevin Symonette

Class of 2014: Baseball and Football In 2014 Tevin was ranked Perfect Game’s 9th best outfielder in Florida. He was named the 2013 Under Armour Pre-Season All American and was a three-time member of Bahamas National Team. In baseball, he holds the MDCA record for doubles and RBI's. His team was named First Team All State in 2013 & 2014. In football, Tevin led the team in rushing yards, total yards, and touchdowns in 2011 and 2013.

Class of 2014: Track & Field and Cross Country In his time at MDCA, Troy recieved the 2014 President's Award, 2012 Cross Country Regional Champion and was named Lake County Cross Country Athlete of the Year three years in a row (2010, 2011, 2012). Troy was a part of the 2014 FACA All-Star Team for Cross County. He qualified for Cross County State Meet – 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013. In Track & Field, Troy holds the MDCA school record in 5K, 1600m, and 3200m. Troy was also the 2014 State Runner-Up in the 3200m.

Class of 2014: Track & Field and Cross Country Christina's accomplishments include being a part of the the All-Central Florida Girl’s Cross County Team and the All-Florida Team at Foot Locker US Regional Championships. She was given the 2014 President's Award and was named Bright House Sports Network Runner of the Year – 2010, 2012, 2013 for Cross Country. In Track & Field she holds the MDCA school record for the 800m, 1600m, 3200m, and the 4x8 relay.

ZAC WARD

Class of 2014: Basketball Zac Ward holds the MDCA record for most career 3 points with a total of 267. He is the fifth highest scorer in school history with 1,926 points. In the 2013-14 season, he averaged 23.5 points per game. In the same yea, Zac was named the 2013-14 3A Player of the Year, MVP by the FACA Class 3A, and All State by FACA & Orlando Sentinel. In 2014, Zac led the team to the 3A District 5 Championship.

Lauren Kilts

Class of 2012: Basketball, Volleyball and Track & Field Lauren helped her team reach 2nd Team All-District 2009-10, 2010-11 in Basketball. The following year, her team achieved 1st Team All-Districts. In Volleyball, Lauren's team was ranked 2nd Team All-District in '09, '10, and '11. Lauren was also the 2010 District Champion in High Jump. That same year, she placed 3rd at both Regionals, and State in High Jump. In 2011, Lauren was named the Disrict Champion again, then recieved 2nd place at Regionals and 6th place at State. Her Senior year, Lauren earned the 2012 District, Regional, and State Championship Title for High Jump.

Class of 2010: Track and Field In his time at MDCA, Bryan achieved many championships. In the Triple jump, he was the District Champion from '06 - '10, the Regional Champion in '09 & '10, and the State Champion in 2009. For the Long Jump, Bryan was named District Champion in '08 & '10, Regional Champion in '09 & '10, and State Champion in '09 and '10. In the High Jump, Bryan was the District Champion in '08, '09, and '10, Regional Champion in '09 and '10, and State Champion in 2009. He is a member of the 2009 State Championship Team and was named 2009 Florida Dairy Farmers’ 1A Male Track Athlete of the Year.

Basketball

Coach Hayes has been the Boys Basketball Coach for 19 years. He has been named FACA Coach of the Year 8 times and District Coach of the Year 8 times. In 2016, he was named Bright House Sports Breakfast of Champions Coach of the Year. He has been named Dairy Farmers Coach of the Year Finalist 3 times. Coach Hayes holds the most wins ever – not only as a MDCA Basketball coach, but also as a Lake County Coach. 

ARTS Secondary Winter Play Was A Fun, Funny Success! Our Winter production, "The Christmas Shorts," was a comical holiday delight made up of short scenes, songs, and monologues. The cast for this production was flexible, and everyone played at least two roles. Leah Richmond conducted the music for the show, adding songs and music just for the holiday season. They wanted to be sure to share the real meaning of Christmas within this comical performance. This play was put on by our talented secondary students and was directed by Cheryl Abbate.
