Summer, 2010 Dear Family Campers, Your summer voyage of discovery through the Universe awaits you at Mount Hermon! “2010: A Family Odyssey” will take you on a journey through solar systems and galaxies beyond your imagination. Our mission is to discover what is REAL. In a time when virtual, digital, cyber, pseudo and faux are prefixes for words like community, friendship, adventure and relationship, we need to be very intentional about discerning what REALLY matters, REAL life from fiction, REAL truth from subjective opinion. Get ready for some REAL fun! “Quick Check” is the easy way to register for your voyage upon arrival. Follow the signs to the Fieldhouse Parking Lot, where you can get your keys and starmap without even getting out of your car! Try to arrive between 4:00 and 5:30. (Keys for rooms won’t be available until 4:00 p.m. due to the turn-around from the weekend mini-vacation.) Sunday starting at 5:30 p.m. you’ll be able to sign up kids of all ages for their respective programs, learn about recreation and activities, chat with our Ship’s Medical Officer, and enjoy a pre-departure carnival complete with bouncy activities and face-painting. Dinner will be served on the Meadow at 6:30 p.m. Afterward, a Mission Orientation will take place, introducing you to the crew and all the particulars of the Odyssey ahead. If you’re a first-timer, try to come a little early for some extra attention. We’ll have a briefing in Forest View, (right down by the Meadow), from 5:00 to 5:45. Send a representative or bring the whole family to learn how to make your week at Family Camp as much fun as possible. Wednesday is “Train Day” once again. Our Odyssey will go beyond the Mount Hermon galaxy to neighboring Santa Cruz to enjoy the vintage Beach Boardwalk and public beach. You can ride the Roaring Camp Railroad through the Redwoods to and from the beach. (If you’re on the meal plan, tickets are automatically included in your package; if not you can purchase tickets for $11 per person over 3 years of age.) Once there it’s up to your family whether to enjoy the free adventures available, splurge on all-day wristbands ($27 if purchased at Mount Hermon) for rides at the Boardwalk, or take a medium road of paying individually for rides or carnival activities. You are the master of your own voyage on Wednesdays! Some special events to look forward to are the All-Camp Bottle Rocket launch on Friday afternoon. If you can bring a 2-liter bottle for your family to craft into a fabulous spaceship that would be awesome! If you forget we’ll have some here. On Friday night we’ll have a space costume contest at dinner with amazing prizes for individuals or family crews. Anything related to our space odyssey theme will do. You can come as an alien, an astronaut, or a familiar character from any of a billion space stories from all eras. Our weekly Golf Outing has been a well-kept secret so we decided to let you know ahead of time this year! On Thursdays after the morning session we take interested duffers to the beautiful Boulder Creek Golf Country Club for a family-friendly outing. Box lunches and a ‘best-ball’ tourney leading to a team score are intended to allow kids and adults to enjoy the day together. If you’re interested in playing this year bring your clubs and shoes and look for our sign-ups upon arrival. Our program team is so excited! We’ve hired an amazing staff of young adults who are eager to pour into you and your family. An integrated curriculum where all family members have the opportunity to be in the same Bible passages each day is a new feature. And even more inter-generational opportunities for shared fun and memories await. We eagerly anticipate your arrival and are ready to embark on 2010: A Family Odyssey as soon as you arrive. Be prepared for some REAL fun! Peace,

Lisa Olson Director of Program Ministries
