Well-Designed Much thought and careful planning has gone into the design of this curriculum. The structure of the College’s online degree completion program in funeral home management includes three brief academic residencies:

The first residency takes place in the summer at the beginning

Total Support As a member of today's end-of-life care profession, you will be called upon to act as an advisor, an administrator, a caregiver, and a business executive. To meet the challenges involved in fulfilling these roles, your education must exceed that which is required for licensure. A bachelor degree from Mount Ida College will provide you with the critical knowledge, skills, and professional techniques you'll need to excel in this challenging field. NEI faculty has designed this online program, built on strong interdisciplinary principles of business, science, and technology, so that all students will succeed. Your previous coursework and education will be counted toward your degree, and allow you to begin upper level courses from day one of the program. Your online classes will be small and interactive. Discussion groups focusing on weekly assignments will engender a sense of community among you, your peers, and instructors. Every kind of academic support will be made available to you. Your success is our success.

of your studies. During this time, you’ll meet your classmates and will receive an orientation to the College, the academic program, and the related technology. You'll also be able to participate in a series of workshops focused on grief, loss, and bereavement that are held each year at Mount Ida’s National Center for Death Education (NCDE) Summer Institute. Additionally, the library staff will offer a workshop on information literacy and how to access library services and materials online.

The second residency occurs in the summer as you enter your third year, following your tenth course. During this time, you will take a course on Clinical Skills in Grief Counseling, which involves all program faculty. You’ll also have the opportunity to participate in the NCDE Summer Institute.

The third residency takes place as you complete the program. You will join other graduates on campus to present your capstone experience and participate in the commencement ceremony. Each residency will last a few days, during which time you will have the option of living in a campus residence hall, a local hotel, or another setting of your choice.
